  1. Check your tensioner while you're in there. Good luck.
  2. I like to remove the IACV from the car for cleaning--one electrical connector, two small hoses and, IIRC, three small bolts. Then you can watch the gunk flow out as you clean it! You're supposed to use a new gasket when you put it back in (although I must confess, I re-used the old one!) Here's an old discussion for what it's worth: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40494&highlight=iacv+clean Good luck Mike, hope it solves the problem for her.
  3. Welcome aboard Scott. Y' found a great place here, lotsa' good information and caring folks who like to share it. Many happy miles to you and your duaghter.
  4. It's possible, if they were never used before, that the connectors are still taped to the wiring harness under there. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that!) Car sounds great--hope it works out for you.
  5. Where are you? Where did you buy the car? Could be a power steering problem--if you bought from a dealer have them check it over ASAP. Good luck.
  6. This write-up might help you: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/change-heater-control-lights-95-99-legacy-26408.html Good luck.
  7. Sounds like you might be okay (although I know nothing about the new style tensioners!) Welcome aboard, Phil. If you can master the search function you can find everything you need to know about Subies here. And if not just ask--USMBers are the most helpful people in the world!
  8. Hi tc! Could it be just a bad wire or electrical connector?
  9. G'day cowby! Welcome aboard--you've found a good place here. Does "brumby" mean what we call Brats, or does it mean Subies in general? Anyway, all the best to you down there in Oz.
  10. Just my personal experience, bought a knock sensor off of Ebay a year ago for $45 or so. Don't remember the brand but it looked just like every knock sensor I've ever seen! Put it in my son's '92 Legacy and it has been working just fine. Although I generally believe in OEM parts sometimes it's just not necessary to pay extra just for a name.
  11. I may be wrong here but I don't think the '96 EJ25 requires the conditioner.
  12. Welcome! Yeah, you found a great place for everything Subaru--great, helpful people here too. If you put your question in the Older Generation Forum you'll get a lot more response.
  13. If you put that in your ID people might be able to help you with more specialized, localized information.
  14. It's great that you have so much respect for the mechanic. I would suggest that you take the car back to him and get his input on what's happening. If he's as good and professional as he sounds, he might appreciate the chance to correct the problem.
  15. ^+1! Check out some salvage/pull 'n pay yards--should be able to fine one for cheap.
  16. Yes! Direction is always taken from your position as the driver. Sit in the driver's seat and put your hands on the steering wheel--your left hand indicates the left side of the car, your right hand indicates the right!
  17. Funny, when I got my first '85 DL wagon I thought it was the peppiest thing in the world. 'Course for 6 years I had been driving a Diesel Rabbit!
  18. Welcome aboard! Congrats on your first Subaru. You've found a great home here for both you and your car. Our first Subie was an '85 wagon--actually two of them, a DL and a GL. Loved those cars, still miss them. Best of luck getting her up to snuff. Lotsa' good people and good info here to help you.
  19. You'd be very wise to get a piece of string and measure the circumference of all 4 of your tires, even though they may be marked as the same size. Otherwise do what Fairtax said put a fuse in the FWD holder.
  20. NGK plugs and OEM wires are highly recommended for Subarus. Bosch plugs and aftermarket wires might work for awhile but . . . !
  21. I didn't read it all (but I will later!) Seems to be pretty thorough so yeah, I'd do what they say.
  22. If I were you I'd remove all the calipers (one at a time) and check the condition of the pistons, seals, slides and pad clips. Clean 'em all up, reassemble, grease and check for smooth operation. Don't need to replace calipers 'til you see that one (or more) are bad. Afterwards you'll need to bleed the brake lines of course. Good luck.
