Change in gas mileage
Slegacy96 replied to Slegacy96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI agree, however I make the drive from home to Penn State pretty often and always get 32 mpg. So winter fuel doesnt add up entirely. O2 senor might.

Change in gas mileage
Ok, I consistently get 32 mpg hwy in my EJ25 Legacy. However, this trip I got 27, the vehicles EPA rating. This was the first official calculation I had done with my weapon-R short ram. I had switched from a K & N Panel filter. Now here's the difference. I filled up with 89 octane rather than 87. The EJ25 debuted in 1996 and required 89 or higher. That changed in '97. But I figured I would give my Legacy some of the good stuff. Do you think it was the octane that made the difference? A nasty head wind, that I didnt notice? Or does anyone's gas mileage suffer when they go higher than 80 mph? I really do think that it was the change in octane, but Im lookin for ideas that I hadnt thought of.

bad spark plugs?
Slegacy96 replied to BIGBLUE1212's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIm confused. Were they new plugs? Because that can blow a HG. And yes, I do believe that having the wrong plugs can affect your mileage. You should have NGKs or if you have to Densos.

Not Again!
Slegacy96 replied to BIGBLUE1212's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAgreed. Glad Ive never had to HGs on any of my EJ25s

Slegacy96 replied to Slegacy96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for agreeing with me there. Some people dont think that it is. Like, yeah, you dont need a windshield. Flying rocks, pshhhhhhhhhh.

cylinder 4 misfire... again.
Slegacy96 replied to eagleb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSeems like if you solved this before with new plugs, the correct ones woulda been installed, but here goes anyway. I had a cylinder misfire because the previous owner replaced the spark plugs with non platinum Boschs. NGKs only please. Or that other brand, whose name escapes me right now.

g/f crashed the impreza today
Slegacy96 replied to seanski06's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGood work Impreza, you succesfly protected your occupants. No airbag burn I hope. I drove my mom's RX300 through this weather today and let me tell you, that AWD system is no where near as good. I could feel the tires a spinnin. I drove down the same route later (working not joyriding) in the Legacy and well, couldnt have asked for anything better.

1999 Legacy Speedo
Slegacy96 replied to Slegacy96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXKnelson you are my new best friend. That is exactly how I feel. And people say to me, "you are being illogical. Of course things are gonna go wrong a car with 80000 miles." But my car was 6 years old at the time and that is just shotty quality. It would seem to me that you would try an appease people and I told them in my letter their service issues are a huge deterent to me buying another Subaru.

speedometer problem
Slegacy96 replied to jamessparrow's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI just went through this hell. The sensor does not require replacing in this situation. The speedometer itself needs to be replaced. This is a reoccuring problem on the 1999 series Legacies. Please write or call Subaru and complain. I asked that at the very least they send a service bulliten because I wasted 200 bucks on this repair plus another $250 for the speedo replacement. They never got back to me. Jerks.

AWD & Manual Transmission
Slegacy96 replied to Slegacy96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUmm I dont try to peel out thanks. Glad your telling me how to drive. Actually I had to replace the clutch shortly after I got the car. The previous owner was a 4'11" Chilean woman. Nice lady, but I dont think she pushed the clutch in all the way. What does this have to do with my gas mileage? Stop being an rump roast make posts that dont waste everyone's time.

23 MPG alright?
Slegacy96 replied to kimokalihi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyea but the 4 cylinder Camry and Accords dont have as much horsepower either. Well against the 2.5L anyway and like I said, I get 32 on the highway.

Brand New Legacy
Slegacy96 replied to 2000outback's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah it kinda sucks you have to put in 93 octane but my understanding is that can achieve 28/29 mpg on the highway. Thats good engineering there.

23 MPG alright?
Slegacy96 replied to kimokalihi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou know I cruise at 80mph and I still achieve 32mpg. Now over 85 is where there is drastic change.

1999 Legacy Speedo
Slegacy96 replied to Slegacy96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThis affects all of the Legacies and Outbacks from 1999. The problem is the speedometer unit itself. It must be replaced. In my case the dealer didnt know this and I spent alot more than I should have and it took 5 attempts to fix. Anyone who has or is currently expirincing this problem I ask you to please write a letter of complaint to SOA. Their address is Subaru of America, Inc. Subaru Plaza P.O. Box 6000 Cherry Hill, NJ 08034-6000 Attn: Customer/Dealer Services I called and SOA said this is not a reported problem. However I spoke to multiple dealers who said that they do this repair often. A new speedo costs $150 + 2 hours of labor. We shouldnt have to pay for this on a car this young. So please complain. I asked that they inform their service centers too so that people dont waste money like I did. I never heard back from them.

Slegacy96 replied to Slegacy96's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the tip. I actually looked at that myself once it was up. However, they are no ordinary blocks. Thicker than the average. But no, Legacy fall down = very bad.
