so i have a 86 XT DL that i recently pulled the motor out of with the intentions of an ej22 swap. now ej22s have been done so much. then i was thinking ej20g then i looked into my bank account and quickly realized THAT'S not going to happen:lol: so what do you guys think of a smallblock v8 put in there? i can find them cheap all day long. throw in a sube rear end, 302, 350 motor or whatever mated with a turbo 350/400 or again whatever bolts to the motor. a simple 4bbl carb, some fancy exhaust and whalla, an awsome wtf? car! now i reallize the need for beefer springs up front and lack of handling but who cares? my 89 gets good milage and is fun to drive, so i just want to do something off the wall with this car. so whatcha guys think? doable or stupid idea? thanks, _Ryan

should have 12v to them from the fusable links then ground at the computer. i just completely redid the wiring on my 89 XT due to the hack job the PO did:banghead:

Adding GL or Loyale Dash to DL?
rpholz replied to sl33py's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
USE THIS DASH seriously tho, just use aftermarket, way simpler and usually more accurate. -
poor poor XT:-\

lots of PB Blaster. let it soak for a while and try tapping it with a hammer after a soak to jar it loose slightly. best of luck!

89 XT GL 31,000 bought it at 28,508 couple months ago. the 86 sits at 147,000 and probly its last mile with the motor thats in it.

no clue on which one is better but i run two metal case fans on my 86 XT with stock alt and no issues. BUT those with misc. electrical stuff AND my subwoofer proved to be an issue at idle

go with what you really want. whats the specs on the k5? 350? turbo350 trans? diesel? rusty? just consider the drop in mpgs! EDIT: on the same note ive been thinking about finding a Toyota p/u or 4runner with a 22re in it because the XTs absolutely suck for my surfing addiction. lol

very cool build, i thought about doing something similar with my old yota. oh how i miss that thing:rolleyes:

I bought a used IR 231C from the snap on guy for 50bucks. Best investment ever. i worked at Tire Kingdom at the time so it was used constantly. And not just by myself, everytime i turned around someone else was borrowing it, because theirs couldnt break something loose. i tell you, you can throw this thing, never oil it, beat the snot outta it and it always works like a champ. i will recomend if you buy something used like i did, pull it apart and seriously clean it. it will definatly help it out.

rpholz replied to Grimm's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

Awsome pictures. but whats with the snow on the engine trying to cool it down from waiting on the jeep for so long?
-
just twist them side to side to break up the crud. or if your replacing them just cut a slice down the middle and peel off. i've never used anything to break them free before...

looks clean! not sure i could get over the color tho:lol:

well forget the negetive comments. i say good for you! if that car ment that much to you then that's what its worth. especialy if your happy with it. and to you price knockers, i almost had a guy sold on my dumpy 86 XT DL for 4500 bucks. so bleh, if only his wife hadnt talked him out of it!!

it's exhaust gasses. soot is typical. youll find it all along your exhaust system. now if it had unburnt gas on it i'd say its running rich:lol:

rpholz replied to freeradical's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
:lol: funniest thing i've read/heard all week. thank you GD for that one. and true! -
i was thinking of just cramming more grease and re clamping the boot. since it doesnt look torn. and really? i was avoiding giving it gas because that usually causes more issues. but ill try it. and i must confess i lied, i did have a Range Rover which was awd, so i'm not a complete noob to awd:grin: i just forget these things cause i owned so many cars
