  1. I am working on a friends 1992 Subaru legacy and she was given a 1.8 motor from an impreza because her engine was blow, my question is can I just swap the engine harness and have everything be ok? will it run? will it run bad? will it pass Colorado State Emission Laws?
  2. I have done several manroe shocks and struts and never satisfied with them even brand new (manroe also recommends replacing shocks and struts every 50k miles). . . . KYB is the best bet ive seen
  3. Yah and im sorry for doubting ccr i called them and they were very helpful but I got to put that project on hold for now I just go an 02 forester
  4. I got an 02 forester now and I am going to give it a lift anyone got suggestions, eyedeas or objections?
  5. He did go into specifics cause its not right to bash other companies but he said he didnt hear good things about them and he isnt a competitor so its not like he would rather me go to him for the work I got two leads ccr recommended a place called Area or Garion and napa said they will do it
  6. Yah I was told by a source that they highly do not recommend ccr but thats the first place I thought of
  7. does anyone know where near denver colorado I can take my 2.2 liter crank to be overhauled :banana:or get a remanufactured one?
  8. Hello I have a 1990 subaru legacy with a standard 2.2 in it i wasnt driving it for 4 or 5 months except around the block every day then when i was going to start driving it all the time i changed the oil and now it has a high pitch screetch and knocks alot what could have gone wrong? I used napa 5w30 same oil i have used since I got the car no check engine lights on just the noise please help, Thank you
  9. I have a 90 legacy FWD and I really want to convert it to AWD or 4WD with the AWD conversion how possible is it to use parts from another 90 or equivalent and what it all takes now with the 4WD route I want to take the D/R from a GL and put that in what all would that take which one will produce a better vehical?
  10. I saw a black diamond subaru wagon by Evans and Santa Fe here in colorado, I was wondering is this a real model? and if it is what makes it different than any other GL?
  11. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1018221566&n=2 "Right, now bear with me on this one, I think I've got it. First of all, the anti-lag. A normal turbo works by using the exhaust fumes exiting the engine to spin a little sort of propeller thing that drives another little propeller thing in the engine air intake which then spins round very fast and forces more oxygen into the engine. But, at low revs there aren't enough exhaust fumes to drive the little propellers and give the engine its oxygen boost. So, you press the accelerator and have to wait a second or more until there are enough fumes to get the turbo propellers spinning, at which point you go from no power to lots of power. This moment of delay is called 'turbo lag', although another phrase for it is 'bloody inconvenient', especially if you're trying to overtake another car. So, the Prodrive anti-lag system works by keeping the little propellers spinning and forcing lots of lovely oxygen into the engine even when there aren't enough exhaust fumes to turn them normally. And it does this by dumping petrol into the exhaust, just before the little propeller. As soon as the petrol touches the very hot exhaust pipe it explodes and this explosion keeps the propeller turning so when you step on the accelerator there's no irritating wait for it to for it to get spinning and instead you have an instant dollop of big fat power. Or something like that. Ah, now the active diffs. Yes, there's one of these in the middle of the car and another one on the back axle. The middle one controls what proportion of the torques from the engine go to the back wheels and what proportion go to the fronts. And the diff at the back does the same, splitting the torques between the rear wheels. They're both controlled by a very clever computer that has a speed sensor, a steering angle sensor and something called a 'yaw sensor' which sort of measures the line that the car is taking through a corner. This is very important. If the computer looks at your steering angle and then the yaw sensor tells it the car is turning through the corner less sharply than it should be for that amount of steering lock it thinks, 'uh-oh, that's understeer'. Then it telegraphs the centre differential and tells it to make sure more torques are going to the back axle so that the front stops dragging the car wide, like a front wheel drive car would. But then, as the car leaves the corner it tells the centre diff to push more torques forward to pull the car out of the turn without oversteering like a rear wheel drive car would. Hmm, yes, that sounds about right. Ah, and the active rear diff helps you out in sudden changes of direction so that if the car is looking like it might spin, the computer can step in and push torques to one wheel to push the rear of the car back on line. And all this computer thinking and moving of torques can happen in milliseconds. It's very clever. It's also made my brain hurt."
  12. is it AWD? I want mine to be awd and where you work?
  13. Hello my neighbore is talking about selling his old VW bug dont know ho much thought but i am thinking about buying it and if I did I was wondering how much work would be required to put in an EJ engine and what engine would work better I have done 2 engine swaps before both into a 93 impreza with an EJ18
  14. My grandma has a 90/91 loyale I forget what year but I know it has the EA82 she just sent me an E-mail regarding her water pump she believes is about to go out, I dont know how many miles this car has and she cant afford a new car, I was curious if anyone could give me the information on how to replace the water pump myself and the cost Thank you Matthew
  15. well the noise returned then on my way home from work there was some resistance when I was pressing the clutch pedal down a couple times then the clutch pedal stayed down the final time I thought the cable broke but there still seems to be tension on the transmission side any ideas of what it could be?
  16. well I dont know what was wrong but all of a sudden it stopped thanks for all your help guys
  17. oddly enough I had a similiar noise comming from what it seemed to be the middle but I put power steering fluid in the power steering pump and it stopped not saying this will work for you but just found it odd my car is a 93 impreza with a 95 ej18 in it
  18. My 94 EJ18 in my 93 impreza ran 270k miles then then oil pump stopped working (I think) and my engine siezed no gasket problems that I am aware of
  19. there is a high pitched whistle but thats just cause the harness ground isnt tight enough the bolt is stripped ( i just replaced the engine) and my belts were slippin when it was cold but other than that nope and yah its a manual transmission
  20. yah I used to have to double clutch from first to second then swtiched to where I had to at second to third
