  1. this was my car receiving the swap. I agree with you eulogious, I've read up on this stuff alot lately, but the difference in reading vs hands on and now watching makes a world of difference especially for someone who hasnt ever done anything like this before. i gotta say tho.. if it werent for Miles bein local and accomodating. i'd probably still be rollin the 3at.
  2. Updated for reference.
  3. Im lookin for a part number for a rear output seal for a 5spd d/r trans from a 89 GL. anyone got the info? I searched but couldnt find anything. Would this be the right one... http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail.aspx?A=NOS13907_0074310010&An=599001+101989+50068+2068009 UPDATE for future inquires: as we found the hard way... the 11636 part number is a seal for the stub axles, the part number for the transmission rear output seal by the driveshaft is NOS 13907 from Napa Should look like this... (hopefully pic works!) 13907 (rubber) and not look like this... 11636 (metal) the 11636 i got was actually like a green color.
  4. i have a 5spd dual range tranny out of a 89GL wagon, would this apply to this transmission as well? edit: looking closer... i am thinking not. nevermind. LOL
  5. i had similar issues with my loyale, when i put a connector together behind the radio that apparently wasnt supposed to go together. :hammer on head: glad you figured it out!
  6. (because it was my car )
  7. hmm, from what i recall, the cable just fed thru the hole and curved around to the top side of the trans, pivot of any type that i can remember. we pulled the engine and trans as 2 separate pieces, engine out the top, trans out the bottom, had a new tranny jack we wanted to use. with the tranny jack we had to use the engine hoist to lift of the car by the cross member for clearance to roll it out. worked pretty good.
  8. The AC lines werent TOO much of a hinderance. the whole AC Unit/Alternator bracket can come off the engine and swing up out of the way and be secured with a bungee cord ontop of the drivers side shock tower. the AC could have been removed, but since it works ( and really well i might add) i wanted to keep it. Edit: the AC lines did however make it a little harder to get at the starter and bellhousing bolts from that side if you arent too familiar with where they are by feel, or having somewhat wide hands such as mine. :/ The clutch cable comes out of a previously plugged hole right below the master cylinder on the drivers side.
  9. finished her up today.. just a few minor things to finish up cosmetically (shift boot for instance) and need to hook up the reverse lights and it'll be good to go. the shifter console piece is painted with 3m bedliner, ithought it looked kinda cool, plus... didnt have enough of it to cover any other area to make it worth the effort so nice having a 5spd again!! Gotta give mad props to Miles Fox for helpin me with this project, i sure as hell couldnt have done this by myself! although now i have alot more confidence in what i know about these old subarus after this.
  10. we got my motor pulled out, replaced some seals and what not, gettin ready to swap the trannies tomorrow. yay. when we took a look at it, it seemed the timing belts, pulleys, cam seals etc had been done previously. Miles has also been filming the process and we should have a pretty cool auto-5spd swap video when its done.
  11. man, and i thought I was a grammar nazi! you guys are ruthless! Im in the process of a 5spd d/r swap into my 92 loyale. got the donor trans out today, it was sure a learning experience never really having done anything this involved before. its pretty damn fun!
  12. If you check http://www.crutchfield.com, i think if you look for "E" sized decks, they will not stick out. then go on the internet and find the deck cheaper. I think alot of European micro sized cars have this size
  13. fun! Today we pulled my 5spd d/r donor car to the swap spot, amongst some other fun like strippin a trashwagon and sending it on its way to the junkyard in the sky. LOL.
  14. yeah i was mainly thinkin of for those who happen to have an extra alternator layin around and want to run a bunch of lights concurrently along with other gadgets etc. for the work involved i guess a GM/Nissan swap would probably be the better option.
  15. so, has anyone ever tried to run 2 alternators? maybe install an alternator in the spot of the AC compressor? it'd probably take a custom bracket but maybe it'd work? just a thouht. curious as to what others (that know more about this stuff than i) think.
  16. man that sucks, i was always jelous of the pnw in that regard. we need to have someone start reproducing the old school car body's. or maybe some fiberglass parts like the Jeeps get. Granted it doesnt help ALL parts of the car. but better than nothin!
  17. man thats frustrating when stuff like that happens.
  18. yea our 2000 outback handles great, i think this problem is mainly related to the 05-09 models.
  19. good lord why! thats something i'd see in the area north of me in milwaukee. we call that area "the barrio" as in latin hood. they got the most goofy rump roast lookin ************ up there but i give them props for having pride in their ride. even if it is goofy. i was told it was because like 10 people live in the same house, they gotta pride something!
  20. ifyou arent going to do the a pillars, i'd go with the 3rd option. just gotta make sure the line is straight.
  21. makes sense, hopefully i still have the file open at work, i'll be headin there in 5 mins.:-\ (work.. boooooo!)[/img]
