Takin on water!
lol. well i only have my spare time to work on this. which is typically after 4pm until dark amongst all the other bs i have to do on a daily basis. its movin along much better now that i have an actual cutting wheel for my angle grinder vs just the grindin wheel.

Takin on water!
Slowly making progress on this. i have some giant gaping holes at the moment. (in the car!!) was going to post a pic or 2 but my camera was dead and it was too dark for cell phone pic. the strut towers look in pretty good shape so thats promising.

That part is part of the frame i believe, should be sealed all the way around unless you have a rust problem. gromets should work fine.

Dual range impreza -- first impressions
Any updates on the setup? hows it working? better gas mileage? I am looking to do this same mod/swap

Impreza Transmission mount, EJ trans -> Ea D/r
i DID search but didnt locate my answer. I've talked with MilesFox a little too but thought i'd just toss it out into general public my plan, if the funds line up right, is to buy a 97-98 or so Impreza which i am going to check out tomorrow in depth. i know it needs head gaskets and has very little rust overall. but i just want to check it out a little deeper. anyways... I want to swap in my ea82 dual range tranny with fresh clutch kit (i know its been done before) into it because its auto and i hate auto, especially an auto with 250k on it.. I am wondering how the tranny mounts will line up with the 5spd mounts on the imprezas; From what i can tell for the swap since i already have a ea82 wagon, it seems I really shouldnt need much as far as extra parts go... ea-ej adapter plate make hybrid front axles (w/ ea82 cups on the tranny side) and have a driveshaft adjusted to fit. oh.. and redrilled flywheel i know the xt6 clutch is probably recommended for something like this but since my clutch is basically new i'd just use that, as i've read that its worked for other ej swaps in general. am i missing something? any imput greatly appreciated. i got the idea from this thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=107597 and the EJ Swap handbook.

Takin on water!
its produces standard AC Power @ 110volts, but a maximum of 400 watts.... using the PIE equation: P = I * E Power (watts) = Currant(amps)* Voltage(volts!) 400 watts = x *110 400 watts / 110v = x x= about 3.6amps so, anything over 3.6 amps will overheat or blow a fuse on the inverter. it'd probably spin the tools up fine, but when you start cuttin, the amps may rise due to the resistance against the motor y0! I is smart. i think my inverter could power a blender. according to the package when i got it. haha. They DID have also for sale at the junkyard an Outback sport for $800, but i dont know if it ran or not or anything else about it for that matter.

Takin on water!
haha yeah, i have one, but its only 400 watts, i dont think that'd be enough to run a sawzall or a angle grinder with a cutoff wheel on it.

Takin on water!
so i went to my favorite junkyard today to look for a TPS for our outback, and low and behold what did i see out of the corner of my eye behind another car...... oh snap! sweet, so i thouht... i better strip out the rear interior and see whats up in the wheel wells, so maybe i could cut them out tomorrow when i have some more time. here is a pic of the wells... Guy at the yard said it'd be like $80 for the wheel wells, but it looks like these if i could cut them out would be alot easier to repair while out of the car, and then mark and cut the space for them in my car and weld up the seams. think thats a good idea??? it sounds good to me,he said they would move the car out for me to work on it, i just need to find something to cut with, i am hoping if i bring a electric sawzall they'd atleast bring the car somewhere near an outlet, or atleast 100ft from one, as i have a 100ft cord.

Custom Stereo Install Question/Installation "Build"
the bumper probably doesnt go more than a little past half way back in that box, if you wanted to, pop those black plugs out and just remove the bumper and measure the distance from the bolt hole in the bumper to the rear of the bumper post. then measure that much back from the center of the hole. you should be able to remove the bumper with minimal effort. i think i swapped my bumpers in about 20 mins, and half that time was lining it up straight before final torques. i THINK its a 14mm socket on that bolt. i could be wrong tho. is that small plug on the top on each side of the thing removable? if so, pop that out and look inside and see what you see. but if you stayed with in a few inches of the back *hinge side* you should be fine. just make sure you use some good gromets and then make sure seal it up so no water gets in. why 6x9's for the rears? and not just a good quality replacement that fits the stock hole? or will you not be using the door holes?

Custom Stereo Install Question/Installation "Build"
i dont think it'd be hard to do, you run the wires along the sides of the car, then you might have to modify the bumper mount/sleeve etc to allow the wires to go thru, maybe weld in a piece of steel tubing as a channel from one side to the other, otherwise, i think there are a couple drain holes that are plugged on the back of the space you might be able to sneak wires to. overall tho, i think the fans would work out just fine, as long as your have some air movement it should be ok, could probably only use one fan as it'll pull outside air in as it pushes it out.

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
wow. $78! thats pretty good! I hope there is a place around here that is that cheap. not likely tho. milwaukee is pretty hard on coatings places in general because of environmental stuff. oddly enough. my dad worked for the sewage commission which made that all happen. what a wongleflute! haha. what i did recently: 92 Loyale: cut up some more of my wheel wells. 00 Outback: changed front dif fluid, i dont think its ever been changed in 180k miles. pretty sure since i've had the car for the last 110k miles and i havent done it, i had the trans and rear dif done recently. but i dont think they new about the separate front dif fluid.

Takin on water!
thats an easy one... basically because i dont really know what the hell im doing. its not that i am not mechanically inclined, but i've never had to attempt something of this nature before, if it was just body work on the outside of the car that'd be different, im way more confident with that task than this one. im pickin up a 94 legacy to drive around while this project is in the works. so then i can get the wheels and suspension outta the way etc. good timing to, im almost out of gas!
-
Takin on water!
yeah, i just need to find something to roll in while this is in progress. currently i just drive the car with a huge hole in the wheel well. haha. it was funny hackin up the car, then getting in it and driving to the store to buy a tool to hack it up more.

we're gonna fix'er tho!!!

Takin on water!
a cage would definately be a bit of over engineering on that. LOL.. maybe if i was planning to do some crazy off road ************, but most likely its not goin to see that much action offroad. if we could re inforce the strut braces somehow while weldin in the new wheel wells, that'd be cool.
-
Takin on water!
i'll probably enlist fox to help with that, i think a roll cage would be cool BUT.... i need to buy the wheels, tires, lift, new laptop (hopefully, but its gonna cost like $900 or so to do what i need it to do:/ )

Takin on water!
got a later start and then had to change the wifes rear tires on her outback, but while i had some daylight i did this to the rear passenger side. whatcha think? still salvagable? there is definately more to be removed from the area. think i'll still have rear seats when this is all done? (i dont really care one way or the other, i always have them folded down anyways for the dog to sit back there. I think i'll take the motorcycle to work tomorrow. LOL. on the other hand, the shock mount feels pretty rigid yet. so thats a good sign for sure!!
