A cool even #50 for me. -
I swear you are trying to copy my every move on the brat! We are going to have some serious twins when they're both done.

So Really, how many started a ej swap and never finished it
Jibs replied to bheinen74's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
i'm in on mine about a year into the actual labor part. Took about 2 years of gathering parts and then about 3 months to get them installed, and now its been sitting for a year because i cant figure out whats wrong with it. But it will get going soon I hope. -
Not so much sand as much as rain and water. Driving through orwgon at 6am in a thunderstorm was an exciting voyage up to wcss.

Jibs replied to SubieDaddy80's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
There's quite a few of us in Reno that convoy up that way every year. -
Good to know, thanks. Can you name them for reference though? Just so I csan get more familiar with what they all are? Thanks.

So I'm about ready to start trimming 2 wiring harnesses for the EJ swap and had a few questions/comments. I've searched around and have found some good info, but I'm still a little green when it comes to this whole wiring thing. First off, and I can't remember if its covered in the writeup, but one of the harnesses I have is from a 5speed manual and the other seems to be from an auto. There's a black connector labeled shift lock that Im guessing is the auto. What is to be done as far as putting the auto harness into a manual car. Manuals have a neutral safety switch right? I need these identified: They are all up near all of the guage cluster wires: And whats the group of wires under the fuse panel here? I believe the red wire with the brown connector is for the fusible links right? What about the rest? I have started removing wires from the guage cluster part; namely the cigarette lighter, power mirrors, tape deck, etc. Also, where are the AC wires, they didn't get tegged for whatever reason? Thank you everyone, I appreciate all the help.

WOW. So when exactly was it when you were going to make me one of those? -
is this a good parts car for my brat?
Jibs replied to Idaho_Dirtball's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Putting a ea82T in a gen 1 brat is a LOT of work. The framerails are going to HAVE to be notched to fit it. I believe the ea82's are actually wider than an ej. Search the forums here for Garner's thread, as he did a ea82T swap in his gen 1. As far as the trans goes, it is possible to fit a 5 speed in a gen 1, though its a little tricky as far as the linkages go. You will also have to get custom axles most likely as the RX Trans has 25 spline stub axles. Its not an easy swap, especially if you're new to soobies, but if you're determined, it can be done. BTW - Definitely GRAB that LSD rearend out of that rx - That you will DEFINITELY want to put under the brat. -
Yeah. That Brat had been sitting in a field for 3 years facing east. I got it for free, lifted it and drove it from reno to shelton washington on the same oil that was in it. Needless to say, it BARELY made it back to reno. Tis no more though.,

And that doesn't interfere with the tailgate of the brat?

So I've got my xt6 axles out and ready to ship out to have them modded to fit the brat, but my next question is on rebuilding them. I wasn't very nice when I removed the boots and cups and such and ended up using a BFH to get them off. Is it possible to order new axle parts online or do I have to go to pick and pull and buy new parts and do a rebuild?
-
I don't. I can take some closer pics and maybe some measurements for you if needed, but I had a buddy make them for me.

is this CV joint or transmission?
Jibs replied to bratlife's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is the axle with the broken boot on the passenger side? Right where the exhaust would be? If it is then the heat from the exhaust mixed with any water that made its way into the boot would be a recipe for disaster. -
That sucks to hear about the brat. Did you help out on your own accord? When you sold it on ebay it wasn't AS-IS? There was a gen1 brat at pnp here, and I tried grabbing the gas pedal for you, but there was so much old dirt built up on it that I ended up breaking it.

Not that I can think of, but somebody might have an idea as to how to check it. Maybe jack it up and turn the car the opposite way, and try to tun the car in the air and see if you can hear it. I had a bad axle a while back and it seemed to do the same thing you have going on. I pulled it and you can literally HEAR it grind when I move the joint around. -

If the boots ripped, then I'd say its the axle. Check to make sure the transmission mounts are ok as well. -
Has anyone seen an 83+ Brat with chrome bumpers? I haven't ever seen any. 82's had chrome bumpers but also had the turn signals up near the headlights and 83's were in the bumpers. Brat rear bumpers are different than anything else because they need room for the tailgate to lower, so I don't know if hatch/sedan chrome bumpers work on a brat. (I AM trying, but I have a couple of broken bolts that need replacing before I mount them.) I have seen chrome bumpers on sedans, but they mount different than a brat, as they mount to a round tube/plate combo that was welded onto the body of sedans and some hatches. So did subaru ever make chrome bumpers for brats?
-
Oh crap dude. Sorry. I HAVE to donate soon. I can get it to you if need be. Want me to box it up and ship it? I can possibly shoot down there if Brian wants to help me replace a trans in the hatch.

I'm sorry in causing extra confusion here. Numbchux is correct in that I have xt6 knuckles and an rx trans. I have a set of ea82T axles already pulled. I have a set of xt6 axles in the parts car xt6 I have, but it'd be a little more work in removing them when the ea axles are already out. I might as well just remove the xt6 axles and have them worked on. Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate the responses.
