I replaced the 4spd in my 84 brat with one from another brat. The bad part is that when I was tapping on the back of the transmission to try and slide it into place. I broke off a piece of the ring around the shaft were the rear seal sits. Now the tranny wont hold fliud. I tried taking apart the old transmission and swapping out the rear sections but I cannot get the end to come off the old one. Is there some way to "fix" the broken ring so it wont leak? What is the secret to breaking apart the old transmission?

I did a search and could not find the exact answers. Not sure why the offroad area would be able to help me with seats and alternators but I guess I could try that. The other reason that I posted the new questions was becouse I was looking for some first hand experiance. The reason I joined this site and continue to tell others about it is becouse the members are willing to share the info that they have learned already. No sense reinventing the wheel. Hopefully even someone local knows something about my problems and I have a chance to make a new friend. I understand that I am new here but I dont belive answering questions with a request to use the search is the best way to continue building the community here. When I get some more time I will search some more. There really is alot of great info here. Even if I dont find my answers I will learn alot about the brat.

Ok everyone has been great so far now I have 2 new questions. Will seats from an 98 inpreza fit? From what I have read I will have to use the tracks from the brat seats but then it will work.Is this correct? I talked with a person that told me a nissan alternater is a direct bolt on. Is this true? Also what year and type of car? Thanks again for all the help. I plan on buying and installing a lift this summer. Not sure though if I want to go 4 or 6 inches.

I have an 06 Baja that I am looking to put a lift under. Due you guys offer this?

NO WAY My brother has a picture of that car on his cell phone. He seen that car in a parking lot some place and had to show it to me how cool.

My parents have a place in Florance and my brother wants to build a bugy. Then I just heard today about some poeple running gutted out subarus on atv paddle has full time sand cars. Does any one here know of this practice or ever seen it done? Running a little subie out there sound a lot cheaper way to go then building or buying a buggy. Any thoughts or tips on this would be great.

Going to run the Brat in Stock this year. Hopefully down the road it will get a newer motor and Power Steering but for now we are just having fun playing in the dirt.

Tried it last year in the wife Impreza. So much fun I had to go out and buy a car of my own to race in. I will be there this year working the little motor in my brat. Not the greatest racer but it was cheap and if I brake something I can still get to work in the impreza on monday morning.

Ok wierdest thing. It worked today. I started the Brat and nothing. So I took the tray out from under the glove box and found the vent tubing. I disconected that and then started the car and turned on the fan again. This time it worked. So I left it on and put the car back together. Hopefully it will still work in the morning. Is it possible that a vacume leak had something to do with this? I had a hose unplugged under the air cleaner and the brat wanted to die at idle. Plugging that back in is the only thing I did on purpose. Thanks for the ideas guys.

Looked around and couldnt find the answer so I am looking for ideas on what happened. Defroster worked great last wed. but this morning when I went to drive my 84 brat to work the heater/fan never worked. I couldnt get the windshield to defog and had no heat. I played with the fan knob but it made no differance. I checked the fuses and everything was ok so what else should I try before taking apart the dash looking to solve this problem?

I guess sarcasm doesnt work well in print. I am really looking forward to meeting new subaru poeple. I have done an event like this before back when I had a big bronco.

If that doesnt work out then , Most hot rod mags have an add for some type of decal guy in them. They are looking for guys who need the decals for there muscle cars but usally carry a wide selection.

3M makes a trim tape that I have used before. It is still working.

I have decided to just cut the fenders rather than lift my 84 brat. So my question is has anyone ever took the time to weld and fab fenders with flares into them? Kind of like the offroad style fenders that they make for the ford rangers. More room and a larger opening. I have a 110 wire feed welder and fenders are only 30 bucks each at my local u-pull-it yard. I am hoping this has been done before so I can just copy it for mine. Please post picts if you have them. Do they have the manual? I think it saids in there that the dealer can dissable the system. I know it saids something about the system. Just cant remember what. I will look in my baja later.

Got the brat running and driving it to work everyday now. According to he odometer the car has over 257,000 miles on it. So I was wondering how many miles others have on there subarus.

Now that the brat is running it is going to be my commuter. I have been putting 400 miles a week on my baja for way to long. I took it to work today and found a few things that need to be addressesd. First and most important is, I have no cup holders! I am going to buy some of those ones that hang on the door. It will work for the short term. Does anyone have any good way to add cup holders to the car? It is a 84 brat with the 4 spd.

This sound like more work then I am looking to do at this time. Maybe I will just cut the fenders and put some larger tires under it that way. Thanks for the help.

I was under the impression that adding 2 inches was easier than doing 4. If it is the same work I would rather go for 4. Is it possible to buy a completly bolt on kit or do all of them require welding? When you buy from a vendor do they come with directions?
