  1. yeah the siffness is very noticable on these cars.. on my vw the GR2s felt soft and the Bilstines were quite allright. did the turbo cars have the tapered rear springs like the early first gen legacys. i was just wondering why the springs i got from the pull nsave were shorter.. or seemed to be.
  2. Ok the other day I found a set of KYB GR2 stuts on a junk yard car. I bought the springs and struts and just swapped them over to my wagon. I complaind about the uber stiff ride and thought it was the shocks. As I was removing them from the car I compared the gr2 struts with the stock kyb struts with springs and strut mounts installed the setup I had from the junk yard was about a half inch shorter or even a little more. The springs look just like mine, there black and tapered. Is there a chance i have some sort of stiffer spring since the shocks should all be the same. were the turbo wagon springs siffer and lower than the stock springs? i wanted to remove the springs but the front strut i cant get the big fat nut off. the allen key ( to hold the strut shaft from spinning ) is all stripped out on the right side.
  3. no i change my mind. its too freakin stiff for me. this was ment to be my daily driver cushy/comfortable riding car. now its as stiff as my sporty vw. I will be removing the GR2s... keep an eye out in the classifieds. i'll possibly look into finding a rear swaybar that will help counter some of the body roll in the rear. To each his own I guess, I;ll deal with the boat like ride till i can get some OEM struts. But im not after a car for track days or AutoX. sorry the GR2s are stiff as hell and there not comfortable.
  4. well all the KYB struts are mounted on the car.. its not too stiff, althought it would be nice to have it just a hair softer. i'll just lookinto OEM struts in the future. the current struts were relplaced about 100k miles ago acording to my records of the car.
  5. my self i like alot of old designs. like the mid 90s to early 2000's BMW 7 series, i like the first gen legacys and the old 80s subarus. I like alot of old cars and wonder why companies always have to change right when i start to like the current generation. for me it came down to this. if i worked for subaru we would still have the bugeye impreza... we wouldn't have that B9 thing. overall it would be a boring company and in the end it would only apeal to people that think like me and like simple functional designs. but to make money and apeal to a wide groupe they need to change. IMO they don't make many good design changes.. they need some good designers that will make subaru stand out without having to cover our eyes becuase the new model looks bad.
  6. well as far as i have read there is no option for springs on the early legacys... with the tapered springs in the rear except for whiteline but these are not lowering springs, just black coils. i would take them off and use my springs but the front strut bearing nut is all Fked up, i cant get the strut mount off because the spot were you put the allen wrech is all rounded out. unless I had air tools it would be very hard to remove. then i would also have a tough time puting the nut back on and getting it tight enough. maybe i should install the fronts and then drive it around a while.. could possibly need some miles put on them as they were on a car that was on stands with the struts fully extended. :-\
  7. my whole deal is now the car isn't very comfortable:-\, it rides just as stiff as my VW.
  8. what are you talking about man.. http://news.windingroad.com/body-stylesmarket-segment/crossovers/naias-subaru-unveils-revamped-2008-legacy-outback not sure what yall are smokin but that looks nothing like the B9....thing
  9. nope it was a white 91 wagon in Spokane. it dosn't seem like we have many options for struts. i installed a set of Monroes on my friends 94 legacy and it didn;t ride nearly as stiff. the struts that were on the care were comfortable but im not sure if they were blown or not.
  10. ok i found a set of GR2 struts on a legacy in the pull-a-part today. i just yanked the springs and all so i could just mount them right up. i have the rears all together and then took a nice drive. they are so stiff.. i was really liking the soft ride of the stock struts. how stiff are these struts suposed to be:confused: you know the shocks that were on the car could have been toast... as its feels like my parents outback.. wich dosn't have a very soft ride.
  11. I have only had my 91 legacy wagon for a few weeks now but so far I have seen the milage improve since I got the car. My latest trip I went 354.5 miles on 13.2 gallons of gas, so almost 27mpg. Mostly highway driving. Now i'm going to be keeping track of my mileage on an excel spreadsheet, hopfully to get a better average number. when i first got the car it had a half a tank of year old gas, we topped it off with a full tank and put some adatives in the tank it was able to get about 22mpg, i filled up again and mostly city driving and one drive over a few mountain passes stuck in rush-hour like traffic i was able to get about 24mpg. so over all im not too dissapointed. my vw scirocco was able get 35mpg on the highway and about 28-29ish in the city, but it weighs a thousand pounds less and dosn't turn all the awd crap, it also has a better power to weight ratio.
  12. got thoes tires for a friend last winter. great all season tire IMO. my parents are running on a set of old Michlens and they still seem to work well on there outback.

    Not Stuck!

sweet i remember taking my old 82 wagon up a snowmobile trail.. well snow covered loging road... sadly never ran into anyone :-\
  14. all that work and they use crappy wheels:-\
  15. reminds me of this road by my dorm a few years back, it would get covered in show and a few times i made some hot chocolate, went outside and watched cars try and climb the hill;) my VW could climb it if i didn't stop in the middle. and my old 84 subaru wagon would climb it just fine.
  16. for the first few tank i have put through my legacy i have seen 22 and almost 24mpg. for the most part i have driven in the city in stop and go traffic, then i took a 200+ mile drive with 4 guys ski gear, and packed bags for 4 days and went over 2 mountain passes. and got almost 24mpg. im hoping i can see some better milage in the future:-\
  17. ah well the picts didn't turn out too great. here is a shot from this week. sadly the roads were plowed for the picture, but on tuesday i was pushing poweder with the front bumper:banana: Let me say this thing is a beast in the snow, to me it felt better than the 84 and 82 wagons i had in the past. though its got a lot of weight to carry.
  18. I know it works great with my Ipod:banana: Is the susupenstion didfferent. I even saw alot of spacific things they look for when you get a new front axle.
  19. ok i know this is probalby a dumb question but i have spent the last half hour trying to find out the differences between the first generation legacies. Im looking for a few parts and it seems to separate them from 92-> are the pre 92 legacies differn't... if so what is it. :-\
  20. Hey guys, ive been on the board for a few years i beleve. I used to own an 84 and an 82 wagon but have since dumped them and kept driving my VW. Coming home for winter break I got word from my dad of a 91 legacy that a guy was wanting to get rid of. Sure enough we settled on a price $500 its a 91 Legacy L AWD, 5sp, loaded with all the options ( i think ) Im the second owner the other guy bought the car brand new. Im still cleaning it up. i had to replace an axle and get new tires for it, my dad and I also had to weld up the exhast pipe coming off the engine. pictures tomarow when i get it out of the garage. Im loving the car already, so smooth, quite:grin:
  21. There is another suby im looking at also.. its a bit farther away. its an 85 wagon with 4wd..and a 5sp but needs some work I may take a look at it also. I could find all the parts i need for a 5sp swap but i have searched and it does seem a little in depth.
  22. Im looking at getting this 89 GL sedan that i found forsale in my area. it has 4wd and the 3spd auto tranny:-\ and aparently thats the bad part its got a bad tranny, I know i can find a butload of ea82 crap in the pull a part yard so im not to worried about that. im not sure i want to jump into a full duel range swap or whatnot if it is a decent car and runs good i may pick it up and find another tranny to swap into it and just drive it with the auto... might be nice for a change. how terrable are the automatics and what kinda issues should i look for in the car. what kinda fuel milage could i expect with the spfi and the auto tranny. thanks guys.
  23. Hey guys in Spokane I was at pull and save down in the valley and saw a Weber carb on an old Opel it was on sunday it may still be there. and its been a hell of a long time.. how all you suby nuts doing.
