  1. PO420 is "THE" most common code. There's a multitude of things which will trigger it. I just clear it with my code reader and it usually does not come on again for many, many months. Definately do not get sucked into replacing your cats. It will not stop the code from coming up and it will cost you a small fortune.
  2. If it is a different gear ratio you will need to swap the rear differential as well, just in case you didn't know that already.
  3. You say no fuel is pumping. Is the fuel pump fuctional?
  4. I'm thinking the ECM is not compatable with the motor. 92 was way before OBDII and a 97 engine would definately be OBDII. They just aren't communicating with each other properly.
  5. Check the sway bar bushings too. Mine were worn and caused a clunking sound over bumps. It's a cheap fix too, about $15.00 a pair.

  7. It is non-interference. There are no real issues with the engine other than Subaru style oil leaks. The biggest problem is the tranny. They are prone to overheating and early death. Install a good tranny cooler, one with a thermostat and fan is best. Check out: http://www.subaru-svx.net As of Saturday, I now own 2 of them.
  8. Rear diff failures are quite rare, if you keep fluid in them. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a used one. I'd replace the 2 axle oil seals just to be safe.
  9. The Cosmo CAI goes into the fender. No more chance of hydrolock than the stock intake.

  11. Alrighty then, thanks for the help. I'm definately looking for an easy swap not a Frankenstein experiment. Maybe I'll go to plan B. Buy a second SVX I've had my eye on which has a blown front diff and swap in the 4.44 tranny and rear diff from the Outback. I know that can be done.
  12. This has probably been covered but I couldn't find anything when I did a search. I have a '97 Outback with a dead engine and have a lead on a 2000 EJ22 for a great price. Is it a straight plug and play or are there other issues to deal with?
  13. My thoughts exactly on the whirring noise. When mine jumped the timing belt and bent the valves on 2 cylinders reducing their compressoin to zero and 15lbs, the engine cranked over extra fast and made a different whirring, whining sound. The cylinders may be scuffed to the point of nearly no compression. I think your engine is probably toast.
  14. If you go one plug hotter, a 6 instead of 5, I've been told they will work better in high mileage cars where compression may be down slightly.
  15. I believe 96-mid-99 will fit. In late '99 they changed over wth the 2.5 SOHC.
  16. The raw power and roar of the engine was terrifying. I really, really want one of those, they're great.
  17. I had this same problem on my SVX. It was the universals on the steering shaft. I sprayed them liberally with WD40 and they loosened up immediately.
  18. I'm about to do a JDM swap into one of my '97s as well. The Japanese owner of the local JDM importer says to swap intake stuff, do the timing belt , water pump etc. Also replace the spark plugs while they're easy to reach. The JDM engine does not have an EGR system. He mentioned drilling and tapping a hole for it. I'll probably get him to do the swap because he gave me a price of $300.00 to install it if it's one of his engines. This should also help with any warranty issues should they occur. P.S. The engine he has has the coil on top.
