  1. i believe that was a trim package offered on japanese models. i could be wrong............ curtis
  2. i've never had any problems with my spacers and i do a good bit of "wheeling" with it. as long as they're made properly and installed properly i don't see any drawbacks to wheel spacers. curtis
  3. you're welcome. you aint looking to give ol blue a few more inches are you? curtis
  4. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=520078 only thing i can find. curtis
  5. HUH? yeah, a wheel spacer between the hub and the wheel will push the tires away from the spring perch. also, using an offset wheel will do the same thing. i have wheel spacers on my car, and they do in fact create a larger gap. curtis
  6. i have a 4" lifted 97 obw. i made wheel spacers/adapters to get my tires out from underneath the spring seats and am currently running 31" tires with some trimming required. so,it is possible to go larger than the 235/75's, not without spacing the tires however. curtis
  7. yeah, my guess would be the clock spring broke. was there a clicking noise from the steering wheel when you would turn prior to the light coming and staying on? does the cruise control still work? if i remember correctly it won't work either with a broken clock spring. curtis
  8. same ol same ol here in sc as far as i'm concerned......still no soobs , its hot as hell all summer and the gnats carry me off almost daily...... lol curtis
  9. if you don't mind my asking what line of work are you in? curtis
  10. i'm in florence sc. not too far from Beaufort. there aren't many Subaru's around here. they're actually kind of rare. you have to head north to the mountains in nc to see alot of them. i see maybe 5 or 6 here locally in florence. there's a few in darlington. hopefully they'll be a few more in beaufort. it's darn near impossible to get junk yard parts , and none of the part stores carry Subaru parts, they have to order about everything from the "warehouse" or get it from another store.......it's complicated sometimes. curtis
  11. not too worried about adjusting it anymore. just bought one from lmdew. thank you lmdew. i greatly appreciate your quick responses in dealing with me. looking forward to recieving my package. curtis
  12. i have brand new tie rods , inner and outer. let me look in to the price of shipping. i'll pm you soon. thanks! curtis
  13. yeah, as i said it's definately the steering rack. i can see noticeable play in it when i had one of my sons turn the steering wheel. i had the boot pulled back and could clearly see the rack moving up and down. it makes all kinds of racket going down the road, particularly at low speeds. i've looked and felt all over it and couldn't find any sort of adjustment screw. i'd greatly appreciate if you'd take a look at your manual for me. i'm sure there are many differences between your 2000 and my 97, but maybe it'd give me a clue. thanks. curtis
  14. if i have to pull the rack out to do it , so be it. i don't mind having to do that. i'd also get the special tool if need be. what other possibilities does the service manual list? fairtax4me , i've been considering the junk yard. i've also read that they don't go out very often.....of course, i have the one rarity that does. i've had a run of other suspension components going bad lately also. i just recently had to replace my left side tie rod end, inner and outer. it keeps get twisted , i think it has something to do with the wobble in the steering rack. just today i replaced my right side cv axle, it was shot at the dual offset joint. the boot wasn't ripped , but the axle was trashed, i don't know if that's connected to the steering rack problem or not. i don't see how it could be but it seems odd that everything is messing up all at the same time. my legacy is lifted and i do take it offroading occasionally, nothing too serious, but it's been a good while since it's seen any offroad action. it's a 4 inch lift, struts and body, so everything was moved at the same time...4 at the struts, 4 at the body......took out the factory 1" blocks. i'm perplexed at what is going on. curtis
  15. i have a 97 legacy outback wagon that has developed a loose, noisy steering rack. it isn't the inner or outer tie rods, ball joints, wheel bearings or cv axles. all of that has been checked and replaced if necessary. the steering rack makes a bumping sound when driving and when i laid under it and somebody moved the steering wheel back and forth i pin pointed the exact location. i removed the tie rod boot and could clearly see that in fact the rack has noticeable sloppiness and makes a clunk sound. i have heard that there is an adjustment screw for this , but i can not locate it. i want to try to fix it before i run out and spend $200-$300 for a new assembly that i really can't afford. does anyone have a diagram or picture showing the location of this screw? thank you in advance for your replies. curtis
  16. 1997 Legacy Outback, home made 4'' lift, home made push bar, on 235/75/15 tires. curtis
  17. you need blocks to lower everything accordingly or you'll be eating axles like candy and wearing out tires. curtis
  18. i had a pretty similar thing happen to me in an old f150 i use to have. after months of working on it; replacing the battery, alternator and selonoid , i finally figured it out. it was the starter. it was causing a short and didn't cause any noticable troubles until the truck was climbing , accelerating etc etc. it sounds a lot like your problem. hope this is of some help. curtis
  19. the difference with the different tire sizes makes sense conidering the 205/50/16's are basically the same diameter as the 185/70/14's. as far as your speedometer not matching your gps , are you sure the speedo is to blame and not the gps? i'm no gps expert never having had one , but is it possible that it could be out of calibration or something? i don't know. i've also never adjusted a speedometer on a subaru. i know mine is about 5 mph off. i've just learned to deal with it. if i want to go 55 mph i just go 50 on my speedometer. i guess that's the redneck mechanic in me. curtis
