  1. California is broke like a bunch of other states. They neeed the gringo.
  2. Is that beveled flange gasket supposed to squash down some when you tighten the bolts? It looks like it's made of carbon fiber or something? Must be made of the same material as metallic brake pads?
  3. Installed aftermarket antenna in the center of the roof fourteen inches back from the top of the winshield. Drilled right through a support rib - (my luck) but it's all good. New wiper blades, oil and filter. The 85 vintage H style alloy wheels generate their own EMP's. Just kidding. They definitely gotta go though.
  4. I put a quart of ATF in the crankcase of my 91 Loyale to try and flush it out a bit. ATF is high detergent stuff. I've put about a hundred miles on it since then and I'm going to replace the filter and oil probably today. I noticed that I'm starting to get louder exhaust noise after yesterday when I put a pint of O'Reillys fuel injecter cleaner in with only a half tank of fuel. I sure hope it's only exhaust noise.
  5. I got the vinyl from a friend but you can probably get it at one of those large home improvemnt store's. You want the rigid stuff that you can hardly bend. That's what I used anyhow. I made the template with a piece of old newspaper. Traced the outline onto the vinyl with a laundry pen and cut the vinyl with large scissor's. I used a few of those short self tapping screws to hold it in place while the glue dried.
  6. Today I disguised those unsightly rust holes in the back quarter's of my Loyale. Waiting for the expanding foam to cure right now. The label on the can say's it's very sticky stuff. I sure hope so. I'll need some firm gripping adhesion to hold my textured vinyl patche's in place. The liquid nails helped a little. Now I just have to get some matching paint. I might shoot it with some flat black first to see what it look's like.
  7. Did a compression test and all cylinder's read: 150 psi except for No. 1 cylinder which was just shy of 160 psi.
  8. Oh what the heck. This is a pic of me and Chief Dan George's 1st niece. We got hitched in Las Vegas back in 97.
  9. I just received a cybermail from Todd and he said he got it running today. He just put four new spark plugs in it and gapped the point's at .018 and Whammo! it started right up. Wish I could have been there to hear it run but I'm back down here in south Seattle at my apt. I'm going to help him prep it and spray it. No rattle can job either. He has a compressor.
  10. Look at what we dragged home yesterday. It had been sitting in a barn for ten or twenty years. The right rear wheel was locked up during the entire tow. It finally went flat on us after dragging it for a couple mile's. The engine turns over fine. We pulled the spark plugs and sprayed some PB Blaster into the cylinder's first. Almost got it started, but the Weber on it need's a rebuild kit badly. We'll probably have to remove the gas tank and clean it out. Fuel line's, fuel filter and fuel pump no doubt need attention also. A couple retired guy's just having fun.
  11. 91 Loyale wagon 4X4 5MT Old south Seattle shade tree mechanic.
  12. You could ask your local public library to order one up for you. How to keep your Subaru alive, 2nd edition, by Larry Owens, copyright 1986, 1989, John Muir publications.
  13. I'm going to put it up in the air and see if the rear suspension component's are stable. If so, I'm planning on a SJR lift kit and getting some patch panel's. The tail end of both rocker panel's is rusted away too. I shall see what I can do. A $150 4WD Loyale that run's good still wasn't a bad deal far as I'm concerned.
  14. O.K. You caught me. Next summer... I promise.
  15. Not a whole lot. At least I've learned how to post a pic of old Rusty thanks to the help of a usmb member. What do you think?
  16. Now all I have to do is get some fiberglass resin, matting, bondo, and some expanding foam. I've done this before with rusthole's the size of football's and it lasted for years. I've got a few thousand hours experience working in body shops, but normally I just welded on patch panels. Thank's for the help with the copy & paste thing. I'm a greenhorn with computer's.
  17. O.K. I have my pic's in photobucket now and I managed to post one of them on my facebook site, but I'm still confused as to how to post them on usmb? I've used the search function looking for help with this matter but to no avail. Look's like I'm not the brightest bulb on the chandelier.
  18. I'm presently researching/troubleshooting the cold start problem I'm having with Rusty, my 1991 SPFI ea82 4WD wagon. It seem's like it's only banging away on a couple cylinder's until It get's warmed up, then it run's fine. I put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator so my heater work's better during this frigid weather we've been having. Pic's to come soon as I get enough post's.
  19. I replaced the thermostat with a 192F . Checked the plate on the driver's door pillar and it say's date of manufacture - Oct. 90 My new registration says "91" I finally got rid of the wheel bearing noise after changing out the left front wheel bearing over at Todds. Named my sub: Rusty-the Infamous Rust Wagon.
  20. It's your heater core for sure. I have a Merc in my driveway I only use during the summer because it had the same issue's. I just bypassed the core so I could keep driving it. I attempted to change it out once but eventually gave up because it was so far out of my realm. Some are very hard to do if you don't have the expertise and knowledge to tackle them. I tend to think the core was the first part they hung on the assembly line and they just built the rest of the vehicle around it. :-\ Sometimes electrolysis can be a factor with radiator and heater core failure. Check the PH in your coolant.
  21. I've been getting some Subaru engine repair knowledge from watching the tech video's on the milesfox website. Subaru engines were a singularity to me until I watched a few of those.
  22. Anybody know which year subs have the interference engine's ?
