  1. if my bumper skin wasn't pushed over like 1/2" i would have had an easy time putting those in. It wasn't terrible to do, they just don't fit in perfectly until the fender gets bashed out and the new bumper cover is on. Figured put em on now though... even though it was -3F and i was in a garage with a space heater designed for a small room blowing on me They're in.. just only mounted about as well as they were before, they're just not cracked to pieces anymore, and i got cable ties in place of a couple screws till they fit in properly. Pulling my bumper skin would have saved me a lot of grief, but i don't have a replacement yet, and i don't think i would have gotten it back on so (missing WAY too many clips).. another day. Car gets fixed up next weekend. I'll be sure to do before and afters because it's my buddy's shop and his work is good.
  2. yeah, that is what i'm looking at.. alright, i just gotta pull on the old ones then i guess. All 3 screws removed.
  3. Anyone got a link on a guide for it? Just need to replace the old ones because the mounting brakets broke in an accident and the whole assembly has to come out. Apart from the 3 visible screws, what is there? I am doing both sides.

    Tires!!

Link works for me.. wish i could fit tires that big. I haven't sized it yet, since i haven't lifted it yet, but somehow my dream of 225x75R16 or 225x70R16 probably just isn't gonna fit with only a 2" lift. MAYBE the 225x70, i am totally unsure about what kind of steels to get, what offset and what not, but around these flat lands i don't really need swampers, sadly. Just some good AT's. Yeesh, maybe i need a truck.
  5. How high is that lift? Looks like the perfect height for a forester, and thus my OBW too.
  6. Like the site, now wanna see the pictures of the newer (OBW, Baja, Forester) vehicle lifts.
  7. I'm looking at another australian who is making bullbar/brush guards. He has them listed like this 1996-9/1998 Outbacks mount the same 10/1998-9/2003 Outbacks mount the same 10/2003-MY 2009 Outbacks mount the same 10/09-Current Outbacks Mount the same Pre 06/2002 Foresters mount the same 06/2002-06/2005 Foresters mount the same 07/2005-02/2008 Foresters mount the same 03/2008-current Foresters mount the same As for other cars.. ask someone else.. i dunno older scoobies, but plenty of guys here do... the list from MilesFox is probably correct, but i am unsure. My lists are IDENTICAL mounts, no differences.

    Tires!!

yeah... tires kinda are limited till you hit ~29" and tires that big don't fit on most ru's
  9. It's nice, though i dunno if i can go full bumper on an MY02 OBW Yeah, that's probably what i'm gonna end up doing, except a bull bar cause my car is too nice to put anything but a real nice bumper on. I got close friends who run a bodyshop, and it is literally 1 block from the scrap yard, i'd walk if i wasn't gonna carry back a bunch of steel. I think they are up for it, and it gives my buddy a chance to use his plasma cutter. They are actually gonna fix my OBW, i just hit a F250 so i need new bumper skin and various parts of the bumper, and headlights. Also fender work, hood work, and a little paint on top of those banged up areas, they are very good at body work and undercut any estimate i get so . Them doing my bumper rebuild allows me to take some measurements to make the bull-bar while the car is on a lift. Now back to your car, which i like quite a bit. The Tube bumper is very nice, can't wait to see the full incarnation of it.
  10. Just a suggestion, you might also consider making a bullbar for 01-04 OBWs, seems like those might sell as the cost would be fairly low, and relatively easy fab, and only minor changes to current bumper and allows for light mounting. Add a cross bar at clearance level and it's a real useful piece of pipe.
  11. I'd spend quite a bit of money, just not the 2k + S&H from australia for one. If you can beat subaxtreme's prices i bet you'd have customers.. just my opinion.
  12. Real headers for H6's would be loved i bet... the obx ones are fairly pointless since they are really just cat deleter pipes. As for a metal bumper, i think there was a former member who had just about a perfect design for OBWs. First off, that needs a pair of D-shackles welded on, then add a place to mount a winch, a stinger bar to mount driving lights, putting fogs where he currently has driving lights, and delete the honeycomb plate metal and that is one killer design, IMO. You could keep the honeycomb too i guess.. just seems.. unnecessary. Hope i don't upset anyone showing off this design by a former member.... also.. sorry for the huge size
  13. i needed that bumper the other day when i hit an f-250 in my 02 OBW. How much did a machine shop charge for that work, and i take it you did all the solidworks stuff
  14. i know at least two members on this board are making them. Baja strut tops are outback stut tops, since the baja is a .5" raised outback with a new skin. Front ends are identical
  15. Exactly what i wanted confirmed Celica steels seem like a pretty good option then as it will allow me a little more rub room, i would think. Still don't know about tire fit though. Ok, i'm just still all very unsure about what size tire i'll be able to run with 2" lift... anyone have experience with lifted 2001-2004 OBs? Looking long and hard at tires for winter use, so about 4 months, and then off road use (which will be fairly rare in these flatlands) so this is what i've come up with: I'm just still all very unsure about what size tire i'll be able to run with lifts... I just want to know what size tire to be looking for... 215x70x16 Lots of options, however smallest tire on my list, only gain an inch, and lose 10mm width 215x75x16 2" over stock, but like no options for tires, only BFG Long Trail and Toyo Open Country G-02 , neither ideal for my application; 225x70x16 Same width as stock, pretty good selection of ATs available ~2" more wheel ; 225x75x16 They are 29.25" so i'm pretty sure they are out of my league for rub room without bashing fenders for fitment, but they do have some great tires available. 235x65x16 Pretty much only snow tires available, ~1.5" over stock. 235x70x16 Seems like 29" or ~2.5" over stock probably has no chance of fitting, but does have great selection of tires.
  16. it's more just an issue of if i can run that offset, because they are easy to find, and making sure i'm right about how offset works...
  17. Ok, just want to be utterly clear about purchasing some aftermarket wheels (or old OEMs from another make). The 2002 OBW has a 48mm offset with a 16x6.5" wheel with 5x100 bolt pattern. If i were to get some steel wheels from another make, what is the lowest offset i could run? A lower offset (finding lots of +38) allows me more room on the inside, to prevent rub against the strut hat with a fatter taller tire, correct? I also know that's that's only .4". Or am i getting offset backward dropping 10mm of backspace... I've looked at diagrams and think i am getting it... Basically wondering if these 16x6.5 +38 mm offset wheels would fit, if i got the right hubcentric rings, or would they not fit or do i start to cause more cv stress or what?
  18. Ahh.... well i have a friend in wisconsin who runs another place like that (not a heaven to speak, just a body yard specializing in auto parts) guess i'll stick with him. My car, however, is an EZ
  19. how about someone with a car made this century I'd like to see how people are doing them on EZ's
  20. CV, Half axle, it's possible. I slammed a car into a telephone pole in the snow at i have no idea what speed since i was going sideways. Car isn't a subaru, but all that was damaged was the half axle. I replaced it and the car no longer drives with a wobble, though i've sold it off to a friend (who's gonna do a total restore and use it for a daily driver). I would say harmonic dampener, but you are describing a thud.. not a rattle, and not at idle. My bet, half axle or cv joints.... that's what would cause that noise, especially based on the accident type, but i would think cv would only make noise on a turn unless it's real fubar. Other pieces of that multilink might have been damaged as well.. sounds like they are giving you a ton of cure for an ounce of ailment... but that's what shops do with insurance companies. Heck it could be from the front hit and be something driven by the serpentine belt that got bent. And what exactly does a subaru with a lot of miles drive like? stiff in the suspension like all cars?
  21. I'm only a couple hours south of there, wonder if i could pick up some axles, wheels or something for a car my age.. though i think it's a bit young... need a deal on some steel wheels.
  22. This makes me more confident in my 2" lift... granted mines a OBW VDC MY02, and i haven't found tires for it yet, it is right at 80k miles too. Can't wait for lift kit to get here, and hopefully the landlord will have the heater in the shop fixed by the time my package from highguys arrives so i won't freeze installing it. I've found a few places to wheel around me so i'm looking forward to finding some other people who wanna potentially pull me out at these locations. Time for the 2011 lifted thread.
  23. well that puts a little doubt in my mind that it's doable as i'm driving an EZ, dunno if the stock angle is different or if the cv's are as durable, less durable or more durable bla bla. Is nice to know it's a daily driver though, and i can't imagine cv's getting weaker when they were adding "a lot" of torque and hp. however my lift with springs would be 3 1/2" and from what i read in your thread you are only running just under 3" of lift.. i'd be at least 3.25" lift.. before new tires, sounds alot more risky. As highguys made my lift i'll probably turn to them for 1" drops if i get kings, or possibly fab em myself.... but i don't know if 2" vs 3.5" is gonna fit a bigger tire so.. probably not worth it unless i can. Good luck with your EJ. I'll only get an inch or so out of tire... 215/70/16's being my best bet, so BFGs would be my most likely tire
  24. Well maybe i shall consider the king springs. I'm just gonna go all out and get primitive armor, new struts, new coils, and i guess i'll grab the king springs for new coils.. despite their cost, seems like it would benefit the ride and ground clearance. Strap on some 28" tires and i'm sitting almost 14" off the ground with kings and my 2" lift and 28's. I happen to have found the perfect redneck to do the work on my car (it's 35 an hour, but i don't own pneumatic tools, and this guy changed a wheel bearing, including putting the car on the lift, pulling the hub, packing, sealing and car back on the floor in 10 minutes, it was AMAZING) and he loves doing lifts, though he mostly does em on trucks. I could install the strut tops myself, but it would be with a lot of cursing, and in a cold garage. This way i'll get to watch, use a lift, and lend a hand, all in a heated garage. Gonna take a look at the bearings on the idle and tensioner too, head lights dim when stopped and i'm about to install a 12" JL with a 350w RMS amp, driving and fog lights, and maybe even a backup light if i actually FIX the front moonroof and pull that headliner. The last car i ran this sub setup in had a 110a alternator. I have so many plans for my OB, and one of them is a panel of toggle switches, abs on/off, lock dif, running lights, there are a couple other mods i've read about, but basically the stuff that i'd flip once i got offroad to increase visibility and drivability listed on scoobymods. Custom bumpers and a winch, maybe end up with a 2.5 turbo?
  25. Also looking into some AT tires, that i'd use for 4-6 months of the year. 215/70/16 seem doable with the 2" lift?
