  1. OK, so we got a yes and a no. Anyone care to put this one to rest? http://www.ramengines.com/_wsn/page3.html What Im looking for is an answer to whether any of this stuff will work for an EA82t
  2. I gotta agree with SAMO When me and my bro are toolin on the fleet, we listen to Metal, Metalcore: Lamb of God Beyond All Reason Shadows Fall Skinless Blood Has Been Shed Section 8 Killswitch Engage Six Feet Under Throwdown
  3. Just looking at all the goodies on the RAM Performance website, and i was wondering if the pistons, rings, valves, stuff like that is the same in the EA81 and 82 engines or not? matt
  4. '85 XT turbo, 3AT, drag application only 14.91s @ 93mph quarter mile *Gutted rightside light housing = Ram Air *K&N panel filter *Boost Controller = drilled out plastic "Tee" in the boost line to the wastegate. Running 16 lbs boost *Boost, Temp, Oil Pressure gauges *Oil Cooler *Saab 900 TM intercooler, Home Depot piping *2.5" downpipe personally made, to a DynoMax Race Bullet muffler *Weight Reduction = 2220lbs w/o me in it *C5 Race fuel My Brother's Car: '92 Loyale Wagon with '85 EA82t 5speed Drag only 15.28s @ 90mph -he just got it together and got two runs on it on sunday... big delays cause there were a few oil downs and one guy in a chevelle had the left rear wheel come off at the launch. Same modifications as my car, should be faster, but it has a really badly slipping clutch. *Blow Off Valve -Matty
  5. I put wheels off of a '97 Outback on my '90 wagon. http://community.webshots.com/photo/112773278/112773278wDrvol You can sort of see them there. Running 195/65/15 Dunlops
  6. I got thinking about this again. The XT i have is drag-only and I'm running 15psi into that. It pulls real hard but the top end seems to fall off, I'm pretty sure its in need of fuel and i obviously dont want to to lean out too badly. So Im thinking fuel pump, injectors, junk like that. Probably gonna get some Cams done up and a torque converter too. so the question still is, are there better injectors off of another application that will work on the XT? I remember that someone had put an aftermarket Torque converter on a car, any idea where it came from? I was going to send it out to East Coast Converters and have them do it on my old one. -matt
  7. Havent put it on a dyno, but after calculating from my drag speeds and times, my EA82t XT puts about 180-185 at the engine... which would be about 140 HP to the ground. -matt
  8. I put an engine shot.. nothing too spectacular to look at. The boost controller i made is just a plastic "T" stuck in the line that runs the wastegate. Creates a leak in the line so that it doesnt open until 15psi. I incresed it to that amount by just drilling the hole in the T bigger.
  9. PS: Lebanon Valley Dragway West Lebanon, NY http://www.dragway.com The pic against the SRT-4, killed him on the tree, so it looks more impressive, lol
  10. http://community.webshots.com/album/184863532jaDaCl I finally got some pics of the ol budget blaster posted. check em out. 14.91sec 92.6 mph est HP = 185 total cost of everything ~~ $150 15 Psi Saab 900 intercooler, home depot pipe intake Weight = 2360 lbs shorty exhaust (2.5" downpipe, Dynomax Race Bullet Muffler) Hood, Trunk off of another XT 2WD auto Plans: Torque converter Cams More Fuel N2O http://community.webshots.com/album/184863532jaDaCl
  11. Its a FWD auto, so the boost stays up. weight = 2360lbs As i said before, some mods that i want to do over the winter would be, Torque Converter, Cams, maybe N20. If i get home at some point, Ill check what I have for timing. -well, back to class, might post later on tonight if there are more questions.
  12. you hit the nail right on the head... We called East Coast Converters about a month ago and they said they could lighten up the torque converter for a higher stall. I was planning on doing it over the winter cuase Im back in college now and dont have time to go home and mess around the shop, plus i had to pay tuition. I might get some cams done as well. as far as what i listed earlier, thats all the mods that are done to it. Well, i pulled out the passenger seat, left the back in so i can stretch out while Im waiting in the staging lanes. Also pulled out some nonessential stuff; AC, center of dash, spare tire rack, crap like that.
  13. Using the horsepower estimator equation, and accounting for a ~25% loss through the auto, the engine is puttin out somewhere in the neighborhood of 180-185HP.
  14. Yeah its the stocker, all stock internals also... If i blow it up, Ill just throw another block in it and try something else. I heard the efficiency is less than 100% at 13.5psi or something like that. Ive got a boost gauge and its showing 15 without moving around much at all. Runs strong.
  15. I'm gonna try about 18 psi next time out. It seems that I need more fuel on the top end, it pulls hard but it tends to lolligag the top end, Im thinking more fuel. Ill look into fuel pumps, regulators.
  16. Sorry i didnt get back to this sooner, I am moving back in for college. I am running 15 psi. tips the scales at 2360 with me in it Mod List... Keep in mind Ive only spent about $150 on everything (car included) *2.5" downpipe - made it from a few pieces of truck exhaust *Dynomax Race Bullet Muffler - Jegs.com *Saab 900 intercooler with Home Depot steel piping *"Boost Controller" - put a plastic Tee in the line that goes to the wastegate, creates a boost leak so that the gate doesnt open until 15psi *Its an auto tranny as well thats about it Ran times of 14.91, 15.02, 15.03, 15.13 wednesday night Next time i get out to the track, Im gonna put a little more boost into it and hope it doesnt blow up. Its had about 15 runs with higher boost, so its held up so far -matt
  17. Just got back from the dragstrip... the XT ran a 14.910sec @ 92.64mph. All stock internals EA82t, saab intercooler, lots of boost
  18. I have an '85 XT with a EA82t... wondering if there are any bigger throttle bodies that will fit. I eyeballed one off of an XT6 but the mounting holes are different. Also, has anyone put different (upgraded) injectors on the 1.8t?
  19. When I read this, it made me think of putting 2 turbos that fit a Yamaha R1 snowmobile (their 1000cc 4 stroke sled)... Other than that I cant think of other small turbos.
  20. If Wyoming has emissions laws, you'll need to put a cat on there. Generally speaking, with a turbo car you want a large diameter exhaust, back pressure really isnt needed. On my drag XT, I made a downpipe out of 3" pipe from a truck exhaust, and run that DP right into a drag muffler. Opening up the exhaust also makes the car sound great.
  21. In the midst of making a drag race XT on a budget. Best time so far in the quarter mile is 15.31 @ 91.58. Does anyone else have any drag slips, or suggestions for future improvements. Its a 1985 XT turbo, front wheel drive, auto tranny. *Stock: turbo, engine internals, wheels, tires *Custom boost controller - placed a plastic "T" into the air line that goes to the waste gate, drilled hole in T bigger... controlled air leak keeps gate closed, running 15 pounds now. *Saab 900 intercooler, Home Depot intake piping *3 inch downpipe... enhaust piping off of a truck, cut/welded to application *Dynomax Race Bullet muffler... directly off of downpipe *Interior stripped for weight savings = weighs 2370 lbs with me in it *Interstate battery, cause the other one died ***Total cost of project ~~ $130 ~~ (including the car).***
  22. Im installing a system on an '02 WRX, and Im wondering which route people have found to run the power wire. I have a 4 Gauge line that needs to go battery to trunk. The best line I think I have found is from the battery, through grommet under brake booster, under carpet.... if anyone has found a better route, can you post it. thanks
  23. Thanks, That was what I was looking for. Anyone else have Cam stories on the 82T?
  24. Just curious if anyone has gotten cams reground for the EA82t, and what results you've gotten. I am thinking of getting them done for my '85 XT turbo for drag application and i just wanted to know if it made a big difference for the turbo motors.
  25. I got one. Dark Gray '85 Turbo, 2WD. Im working on it just for drag racing, its in the beginning stages. So far the entire project has cost about $150 (car included) and my best is a 15.79 in the quarter.
