  1. Dang! that passenger side fender is hell to take off! stupid snorkel and washer fluid tank in the way. much different than a Loyale, the XT has no room for tools except for a box wrench 1/8th of a turn at a time, ugh! and I have a Milwaukee cordless power ratchet and can't get it in there...got fed up with one bolt and got out the chisel and a BFH! Mission accomplished. putting it back on, not so bad, learning curve.
  2. I downloaded the manual and have searched the forums. I am still confused? Any tips? when I bought the car, they told me to pop the hood and remove the relay to turn the fan off and on? I messed with swapping some relays and thought I fixed it, but found my battery drained and a very hot relay? WTF? something grounding out? also need some advice on how to get the vents working again, seems to be no vacuum? Your wisdom and experience is requested and appreciated.
  3. On my 1988 salad cutter alloys on my XT6, looked horrible when I bought them. I used a spray can of paint remover to strip the crappy clear coat off that was trapping the dirt and corrosion under it. after that i used a brass brush on a drill and then a foam sanding block to finish, only took an hour and looks way better. have yet to re coat them. I chose not to blast them with abrasive so as not to remove the lathe marks that shine so distinctively on alloy rims.
  4. That's a casting mark, I have a crack in my block on my wagon it's easy to see it gathers dirt in the crack. I had JB Weld holding it closed for 2 years!
  5. Finished the rust removal behind all the mud flaps and under the rockers. smooth out and sanding tomorrow. I hope to have it done for WCSS
  6. I've had a jumpy tach from the voltage regulator in the alternator fail, has happened twice, rebuild or replace alternator.
  7. I used a dremel rotary tool to cut the center cover in half and remove it from around the pulley, and it can still be re attached in 2 parts without removing the pulley. Or just take off the pulley, there is a hole in the flywheel you can put a punch in to hold the crank still (a bit more difficult on an automatic just jam something in there), and use a breaker bar on the pulley, no need to remove the rad.
  8. It's now sold, going to a good new home. I'm now working on my 1988 XT6, doing bodywork this long weekend. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/144984-88-xt6/
  9. Convertible XT6! http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f74/toronto-subaru-club-meet-subaru-canada-5769/
  10. Here's the link to what you need to swap the suspension. http://subaruxt.com/faq/airstruts/ http://subaruxt.com/categories/howto/
  11. I did a google image search for "subaru lambo" and found an image link to that SVX on the NASIOC forums. I have no other information. Lambo doors look silly on most average vehicles, especially 4 doors and trucks, But some on coupes with low long doors it fits and looks ok.
  12. I think the lambo doors would not look out of place on my 88 XT6, fits with the style of the car. what do you think??
  13. My 3 Subarus are almost the same as this promo pic! I have a silver coupe instead of a red sedan. I'm selling the coupe and the wagon and keeping the XT6, too many projects and not enough parking.
  14. I eventually paid $15 for a PDF manual, and I sorted out the relays and AC fuse block. now for some bodywork. I have to sell my 86 GL Coupe to make room for the XT6.
  15. today I finished the timing belt and got it running, took a spin around the block a couple of times. The Cybrid steering is great. rusty breaks and one warped rotor. the relays for the fans are all screwed up and I cant find a manual anywhere?

    88 XT6

my new project, first job timing belt, how different is the procedure from an EA82?
  17. This car is now for sale. I recently bought an 88 XT6 and have no room for the 86 Coupe.
  18. Still have not got the collector plates, have no time or money to work on it hope someone buys my 92 wagon so I'll have come cash to fix the axles, small body dents, a bit of rust and paint scratches. I have a dual range and diff, is it worth converting from FWD or should I keep it stock? 130,000 Kilometers, is only 80,778 Miles not bad for a 27 year old car. I swapped the rear speakers for new, much better sound now. anyone know how many coupes were produced? how common are they in North America now?
  19. Still doing more restoration work, getting ready for the langley car show, and applying for collector plates.
  20. For smells in the air conditioning, find the air intake outside and spray a whole can of lysol into it while the fan is on high, turn off and let sit for a few minutes and turn on heat to dry it out.
  21. Rent a hot water carpet extractor, like a rug doctor, with the hand tool with a clear plastic part so you can see the water color and if it's clear after a few passes. Use concrobium spray to kill the mold and musty smells, and use a degreaser and spray onto the carpets and scrub before using the extractor. Then rent a ozone generator and dehumidifier to finish off any smell and dry out. Home depot has kent brand extractors for rent, more power than grocery store rug doctor. I'm fortunate to have these tools in my contractor van
  22.
