  1. I got the same problem with mine, the car sounds great, except for that rattle, I hate that rattle, will probably replace it with something that don't have them pesky heat shields
  2. I found a full set of center caps, I ended up with 6, I got a couple off ebay, and a nice set of 4 from the sucker king, (thanks bud ) I’m going to clean up all 6 center caps, and use the best 4, so I sould come up with a nearly flawless set. Next up is to finish dismounting the tires, and give the rims a good clean up/polish, and apply a clear coat so they hold their shine, then I can go shopping for tires I think I’m going to go looking for a new set of 185/70/13’s, just nice quality road (touring) tires. maybe something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-185-70-13-KUMHO-SOLUS-KR21-70R-R13-TIRES-/310398242551?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Section+Width%3A185%7CAspect+Ratio%3A70%7CRim+Diameter%3A13&hash=item48452d4ef7&vxp=mtr#ht_2203wt_955 The wheels that are on the car now I’ll have powder coated black, then get some trim rings (I already have a set of center caps for them) and I’ll look for a set of winter tires, or maybe some snow tires I can pull the studs out of, something I can run up and down the PNW mountain roads with and not have to worry about trashing the good tires and wheels. I might even come up with a third set of wheels I can put some studs on for winter driving back and forth to work. (that thought has certainly been going through my head)
  3. mine follows me everywhere I go, I can't shake the thing, it's hiding out in the parking lot right now, just waiting ....
  4. here's a link to your power steering issue: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=117494#post970279
  5. This works well for comparing tire sizes: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
  6. I replaced the purge control solenoid with a known good one tonight on my 91 Loyale wagon.
  7. I seafoamed my 91 loyale, I used about 5 cans of the stuff, I soaked the cylinders with some, ran some through the vacuum lines, ran some in the fuel tank and in the oil, all i can tell ya is that when I was done, it was like driving a whole nother car.
  8. keep the car, because at some point the "dumping money into it" stops, and before you know it, you have a reliable running dependable car
  9. GD did my EA82 and I couldn't be happier, it runs perfect, and even has torque cams installed
  10. I think it might be a ford 9N tractor engine, those had the distributor located in the front next to the radiator, they looked like the attached picture: is that what your storing at your job? more info would help a lot
  11. For what it’s worth, I thought I’d share this: I was needing a new radiator cap for my EA82 because the old one was pretty well shot and allowing coolant to escape past the cap. I noticed on my car that it had a 13 lb cap on it, so I wanted to replace it with something better then what I had that was rated at 13 lbs I did some google searching and some ebay searches and found this Mr Gasket Thermocap with a built in thermometer, thinking that was pretty cool, I went looking for the cheapest place to buy one and found one on ebay for 9.99 plus shipping. Most everyone else wanted something like $20 plus shipping for it, so I thought 9.99 was a good deal. This is a 13 lb cap, and the Part number Mr. Gasket 2472, and it comes in silver, blue or red, I got the red one. I read some reviews through amazon.com and the reviews are mixed, but they also pertain to the bigger caps with higher presser ratings, with that being said, I don’t know how this will fair over time, but in the 70 miles that I’ve run it today, it did very well, it fits perfect, I think it has a better fit on the EA82 radiator then the old stock cap, and if you have reason to question your dash gauge, you can simply pop the hood and take a gander at the temperature reading on the top of the gauge, I checked it a few time today and it seems to be fairly accurate, the outside temperature was around 90 degrees today, the dash gauge was reading normal with the AC and both cooling fans running, and the gauge on the radiator read a steady 170 degrees. At this point, I think it’s a cheap alternative to installing an auxiliary temperature gauge on your dashboard somewhere. 10 to 15 bucks delivered, pop it on your radiator, and your good to go, it don’t get much simpler then that. Here’s a picture of it installed on my car:
  12. I soldered the resisters on both clocks, the second one is the old on out of my car, I thinking I got the iron to hot and cooked the resister. we can get another clock over the weekend and try it again the first clock I did, it worked perfect, then I worked on to more clocks, and neither one of them will work at all now. oops
  13. I was looking at this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUBARU-WHEEL-CENTER-CAP-1-860729-/160699070095?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item256a69368f&vxp=mtr I think it's clean enough that it would look ok once I get the wheels polished up, but then I'd still need to find 3 more. I would mind some of the cheaper center caps if I could somehow get them to stay on the wheel without coming loose or falling off
  14. there's one nice on on ebay right now I was thinking of buying, but it's 15 bucks shipped, and it's only for 1, which means I'd still have to find 3 more I can get a set of lug nuts off ebay for $14.00 http://www.ebay.com/itm/16-LUG-NUTS-BULGE-ACORN-12x1-25-NISSAN-SUBARU-SUZUKI-/260844868717?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cbb90d46d&vxp=mtr
  15. TheLoyale: thanks for the acorn nut size, I'll order a set off ebay I figured out what center caps it's supposed to have, the part number is 860729 and they look like the ones in the picture, so if anyone has any hanging around that they would like to sell, let me know, they need to look like the ones in the pictures, and the part number on the back has to read "860729"
  16. I finally found some wheels!! I never really liked the hub caps, and have always wanted to do away with them, but I couldn’t seem to find a decent set of wheels to replace these old ugly steelies. That is, until today. I found these wheels on craigslist for 50 bucks: The tires are pretty nice to, although I am going to chuck the tires, they got some pretty good tread on them though. Now I need to either clean the wheels up, or get them cleaned and polished, and then I somehow need to come up with a set of center caps that fit, then I can mount some new tires on them, and put them on the car. At least I’m off to a good start, I got a nice set of wheels to work with now Next challenge, finding center caps … oh yeah, and chrome acorn lug nuts, gotta find chrome acorn lug nuts.
  17. I installed my Flosser 80w/100w 9004 headlight bulbs last night and went for a drive, whoa is they bright
  18. I would but I have to be able to find a set of rear disks, whenever a set shows up, I'm usually a day late and a dollar or two short
  19. This last weekend, We got to take the car down to Pacific City and go 4 wheeling with the big boys, we were the smallest car on the beach, and had no troubles at all …… Until I got home .. Last night on my way home from work, the alternator went out, it went into over voltage mode, and was pegging 18 volts on the dash gauge, plus the oil pressure gauge pegged as well, but man where the lights bright on the way home from work … wow! I got up this morning and called General Disorder and told him about my alternator problem, and he said “bring it over, we’ll fix it.” So today I got my 90 amp Nissan Altima alternator upgrade, wow, I watched that guy work on the install and from start to finish it took him about 15 minutes, it was the simplest upgrade I’ve ever seen. I know progress on this car has been slow, do to many different financial interferences, but here in the not too distant future maybe I’ll be able to pick up the pace and get a few more things done to it. So far, it’s running well, we had a few ignitional bugs to work out of it, but to date, it’s running better and better. I’m not sure what I’m going to do next, I was thinking maybe wheels and tires, so I’m on the lookout for a set of front hubs, and rear drums I can pick up cheap to do a 6 lug re-drill on. The tires on the car are pretty well shot, so I may just buy a cheap set of 13 inch tires and call it “good” for now, I’ll go to a 14 inch 6 lug if I can round up the parts quick enough (money providing) but that would require drums and hubs, wheels and the re-drilling.
  20. yup, I used my trusty tire machine today to mount up another tire, I replaced the cone washer on the drivers side back axle, tightened everything up and the drum is now tight as a ...well, ... drum, there's no wobbly movement at all, I took it out for a test drive and everything sounds good, the thump, thump, thump, knock, knock, knock noise has not returned. I'm thinking with the combination of that bulging tire and loose castle nut, that it might have been the drum banging around causing the noise. I really need to remember to take my camera when we have outings like that, in-spite of the minor car trouble, it was an awesome day.
  21. I took KC (91' loyale wagon), my floor jack, all my tools, and my girlfriends 80 year old dad, on a back roads adventure in the Tillamook forest on the Storey Burn road, I had my Coleman coffee pot, stove, cooler, lawn chairs, and lot of food for a nice afternoon off road tailgate picnic. despite having a bulging tire, and developing a thump, thump, thump, knock, knock, knock in the axle/wheels/bearings, or someplace, we had a good time. I shoulda brought the camera, Grandpa never gets to get away and he had a good time, we backed that car down an old dirt trail through the trees until we came to a small crick, we flipped open the tailgate, and spent the afternoon doing a cookout and chatting about anything and everything under the sun, grandpa especially liked the "4x4" action getting to and from that crick. I changed out the drivers side rear bad tire for the donut spare, and the thump, thump, thump, knock, knock, knock, seems to have gone away on the trip home, but I did notice that the driver side rear brake drum has a loose castle nut which means that cone washer behind it is probably shot, and i noticed that the drum has a lot of loose slop and play to it, (Possibly the reason for the thump, thump, knock, knock, knock maybe?) I know the sound was more then just a bulging tire, it was definitely coming from an axle, bearings, brakes or something, I just can't tell where, but it did seem to go away when I changed out the bad tire. I will be looking at it further in the morning
  22. We finally got a chance to get the car out for an adventure yesterday, we had fun, the car did great, had no problems with it at all. We headed east from home looking for some wide open spaces: It didn’t take us long, an hour and a half later, we were enjoying this: And this: But we really wanted to get some off road time in, so we went looking for some less then perfect dirt roads that might lead us to some nice picnic areas: Before long, he had found us the perfect picnic spot, not a soul around for miles, the dog got to run free, it was very nice and peaceful: After we were done with the picnic, I really wanted to get off the beaten path, then I came across this really cool abandoned road, that had been blocked off but dirt mound that proved to be no problem at all: Once I got over the dirt mound, we had a mile or so of abandoned highway to explore: Which we did, and the dog loved it:
  23. OL' KC is back on the road and running better then ever, today GD finished up the wiring for the extra cooling fan, so all is good now. I'm going to work towards getting the Legacy running now, then I'll go back to working on OL' KC once I get the Legacy on the road.
