  1. I got the front end rebuild finished on Ol' KC and got him back on the road, he drives out real nice now, feels solid, no funny noises or nothen, so today I took OL' KC over to GD's place and got the secondary cooling fan working, so now I can start working towards getting the legacy running ) I gotta admit, he's starting to look mighty fine but now I need to start working on this one, oh where to start ....
  2. here's a good one, from about 1984 part 1 - Part 2 -
  3. wasn't the turbo's dash digital? and the non turbo analog?
  4. You guys are lucky, just the opposite happens to me, back when I was a teenager, and I had my first car, I was working at this gas station repair garage place, and I was the gas pumper, once day a car comes in that was identical to mine, but it needed work, so the mechanic robbed the parts off my car to fix the customers, I had to call my parents for a ride home after work, and ..whoa did that mechanic get in trouble …. My folks weren’t real happy about what he did.
  5. My nephew came over tonight with his entourage of able bodied teenagers and went to work on my car, and pretty much got most of it back together in short order. I still need to paint the caliper and brake booster, will try to get that done next week, but here's what it looks like so far with freshly painted parts. it's been really slow going, cause of a little bit lack of parts and funds, lack of ambition, sore back, old age ....thank god for nephews now I can get back to work on this ....
  6. I ordered the new master cylinder and the rebuilt caliper for ol' KC today, my 91 Loyale, he's been down since november, lack of funds caused a lack of parts to repair him, so hopfully soon he's gonna be back on the road. finances are coming back under control after buying another car, and paying for some other much needed stuff....still got my trusty car though
  7. Buy a set off ebay, I did a search and they have all sorts of them, or, if you really need a set that bad, I have an extra set that's not in to bad of shape that you can have for free .. here's the ebay link to a set of plates: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SET-OF-2-1970s-ERA-OREGON-LICENSE-PLATES-SALE-BENEFITS-BLIND-CATS-100-/320857817808?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab49dc2d0
  8. I have one of those for my car, but I need to clean it up and paint it before I put it on, the one I got is kinda ugly in it's current state ...
  9. I got a can of black spray paint for the brake booster in the Loyale today, and also picked up a can of black bumper and trim paint for the Legacy, thanks Harbor Freight D)
  10. I'm speachless, and I ain't sure why, it's either the end of a pristine GL-10, or the thought of what's about to happen to it .....
  11. ok, I'll leave it in place, I'll sand, mask and paint, having to remove the peddle box to get it out convinced me, I don't wanna mess with it.
  12. I wouldn't mind goin, if I ever get my wagon done ...lol
  13. I’m starting to wonder if I might be going a little overboard with this brake job, First it was a froze up caliper, then I noticed that there was a lot of sludge in the master cylinder, so I removed it as well, I believe the master cylinder was fine but with as much crud as I saw, I figured I should replace it to, rather then putting it all back together and chance it that the master cylinder might go bad. It’s off the car now, and I’m not going to put it back on, if it’s off, I might as well replace it. Looking at the master cylinder, it honestly didn’t look bad, but check out the pictures, I thinking that at some point, something has leaked, not really sure what though. The back of the master cylinder looks dry, and intact, no corrosion or anything, other then just being dirty: Now take a look at the Brake booster, it kinda looks nasty. I could take it off the car and clean it up and do a little paint work on it, but now I’m wondering …since I’ve gone this far with the brake job, should I replace the brake booster to? What lead me to the brake job in the first place was how weird the brakes were acting, for the most part, they worked fine, the peddle was tight, stiff, not spongy, and it took very little pressure to apply the brakes, but every now and then, (when you least expected it) you could literally stand on the brakes with as much force as you could possibly exert, the peddle wouldn't move and it would hardly slow the car down, it was like the peddle was froze and not working at all. It was An accident waiting to happen. But after looking at the brakes, I attributed it to a frozen caliper, or so I thought? Am I going overboard with this, or should I replace the brake booster to? Or just clean it up and throw a little paint on it? what's the symptoms of a bad brake booster?
  14. rather then send it back, I think I'd go to Harbor freight and get one of these: http://www.harborfreight.com/radiator-fin-straightener-37892.html
  15. I need to wait till I get the loyale back on the road before I start working on the Legacy, but it won't be to long of a wait
  16. I'm thinking it's gonna be a blown tranny, I need to collect parts like a cutch and tranny and we'll be talking, I also found a reciept in the paper work for a new clutch and resurfaced flywheel about 100,000 miles ago, so I'm thinking that if the fly wheel has already been resurfaced once, I'm probably gonna want a new one when we pull replace the tranny and clutch.
  17. I got the car started tonight, it runs great, I let it idle for about an hour, no over heating , nice and quiet, and runs very smoothly. it acts like the clutch is gone, you can shift through all the gears while running but it won't move, I noticed a slight RPM drop when in gear, the clutch peddel will go all the way to the floor and stays there unless you give it a good swift thump, then it will pop back up to the top.
  18. thanks, what I'll probably end up doing is moving it into the shop as soon as I get the Loyale done, and just slowly fix it up buying parts for it here and there until I have it running. I don't think it's going to take a whole lot of money to get it going, it's pretty well intact, and the interior isn't all torn up, but it is filthy dirty, so lots of elbow grease ahead for me.
  19. Here comes all the “before restoration pictures” Here’s a front view of the car, it does have some paint flaking off the top of it, the clear coat, and the headlights are yellow, it’s going to need a really good cleaning, my son in low can fix the paint problem. Here’s a picture of the back The only real body damage I saw was the rust spot on the trunk lid, and a small dent in the front fender, a Job my son in law can fix It also has this little problem with the rear window side trim, it looks like the rubber is shot and the trim is coming off, need to fix that Here’s the clear coat fading I was really concerned about the interior having 280,000 miles on it, then I saw the seat covers and figured the seats were completely shot; But when I pulled the seat covers back, the seats were perfect underneath: The stereo is gone, but the dash isn’t torn up, so I should be able to give it a clean replacement: The carpet is also perfect under the floor mats: The only problem I found with the interior was the lack of sun visors, both sides are missing: I really like the aftermarket wheels, there’s no curb rash on them, with a little cleanup, they should look really good: I also got the stock wheels with a rally nice set of studs: Everything looks nice simple and intact under the hood:
  20. I got a dealer close by, if you can't come up with them, I can go monday and get you what you need and mail it out to you for the cost of first class mail
  21. I got the Legacy home tonight, it was to late to get more pictures and I was working on another car when it arrived, so I wasn’t able to do anything with it, but I do have a little more information on it. the engine was replaced at about 150,000 miles and has about 20,000 miles less on it then the odometer shows, and the Odometer now shows 270,000, so the engine has about 250,000 miles on it. It hasn’t been started in about a year and a half, so I may try to get it running tomorrow. The clutch was replaced when the engine was put in so the clutch has about 120,000 on it, and she said the clutch was still working fine when the tranny went out. As for the tranny, it is the original one that came with the car new, so it has 270,000 miles on it, the lady I got the car from said that it would pop out of third gear so she quit using third gear, she’d shift from 1st to 2nd to 4th then 5th, The last time it was driven, (about 2 years ago) she said she was about to accelerate up a hill in 5th gear when it popped out of 5th as she pushed on the throttle, the car came to a stop and would no longer move. Her son suggested that it might be a busted input shaft? Or maybe the clutch went out (I don’t think it’s the clutch though) he said sometimes you could put it in gear, and it would feel like it was about to catch and move and he could hear something “pop” and then it would just free spin like it was in neutral. (kind of sounds like maybe a broken shaft?) The clutch cable is fine, it’s not broke, the peddel feels normal, and you can feel the tranny go in and out of each gear as you move the gear shift. it's got a really nice set of aftermarket wheels on it, plus I got the origional set of wheels with almost new studded tires on them, there's no stereo, just a hole in the dash when the radio used to live. will be posting pictures tomorrow
