Brake year swap???
Hi does anyone know what year when the Brakes changed from the Gen 1 Subie to Gen 2? You know, from the messy pins/spacers caliper set up to the more Modern set up on the Gen 2? Thanks. My guess is 81 Brat, last of the Gen 1 body & 1st of the EA81.

Not exactly a "tech" question, but.......
The Owner is asking $1800. Who knows how well it runs/how well the engine was rebuilt, cant go off of looks alone.

Project Mint Brat
If you have a Stud Gun it could save the Hood but with that much of a damaged hood it may be prone to a Oil Can Effect, which the metal pops in and out like putting a dent in a Soda Can and popping it out, and no amount of Bondo(body filler) will fix it, it will only crack and fall off with the paint. Good rule of thumb....Bondo should never be applied no more than 1/8" when its ready for paint. Good luck. Love your Brat!

What size roll pin.
t Jack up your car up enough to get your wheel off the ground, then grab your wheel(tire) with both hands, one hand 12 O'clock position on the wheel(tire) and your other hand 6 O'clock position on the wheel(tire) then a push n' pull on the wheel(one hand push & the other pull) checking for any Loose Play. Repeat again with a 9 O'clock and 3 O'clock hand on wheel position. I have replaced both Axles before and came to find out I Either had a Bad Wheel Bearing and/or a Bad Cone Washer Instead of a Bad CV Axle. Live and Learn I guess. Good Luck.

How to check HG leakage???
I didn't know the obvious signs of a Blown HG but,now I know what to look for. Thank you all. Also, what does it mean when a Old Subie(EA81) back fires?? I was looking at a 86 GL Hatchback a while ago and it had this problem.....So, I walked away from the deal.....fearing that it would be a costly repair. Thanks again.

When Will My Alternator Die?
LoveTheeSubie replied to Ravenwoods's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI used to have a 92 Legacy L. My alt. craped out on me at 199,050 K on Christmas Eve a few years ago in the dead of winter. I started it up a few days later and drove it to the parts store and bought a new one! Then I sold it when the Tranny started to slip at 250K. Best Investment ever!!!!

79' DL FWD 2-door BRAKE Caliper
IIRC???? That sounds like a workable solution, I just wasn't sure if that could be possible because of parts/engine difference from GEN.1 to GEN.2 Subie. Theres one 83 GL 4x4 wagon at a local Junkyard here, I could pull it off and try it before buying it new/rebuilt from the Parts Store. All those pins and shims holding the caliper intact is a Nightmare since we never delt with anything older than 85' Thanks a bunch.

79 DL Brake Pads
Hello, I posted this in the other Forum So bare with me. My friend has a old Subaru 79' DL Front Wheel Drive Automatic and the both of us cannot figure out HOW to Compress the damn Piston on the Front Caliper to make enough room to install new Brake Pads. We both use to own a 85-88 Sub's GL HatchBack and It's simple,Press and turn to Compress the Piston down enough to put new Pads in. I'm no stranger to Subaru's but this the very first time that both of us Tinkered with a Gen.1 Subaru. Sorry there's no Pic. I'll try to explain.......... The Piston has a Slot, about a 1/4", running through the middle of the Piston, the rest is Solid Metal. If you know what I mean.....Like most cars nowadays That Piston is totally Hollowed out and some cars have two of them Compressing the Pads to the Rotor. Anyways, Please Help............. We both tried to Use a C-Clamp, Needle Nose Pliers, Pushing and Turning/Rotating down on that Piston but NOTHING!!!! If there's a neat little trick or special tool to do this simple job, Please any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all
