  1. over 150 whp is very respectible. That must be fun....what kind of mileage are you seeing? Congrats.
  2. the lash adj. are a pretty easy fix....sometimes they just get stuck. I fixed my noisy one just by finding the one that didn't easily move up and down, and gave it a couple raps with the handle of a screwdrive and voila...noise gone (about 30k ago)
  3. The leak is in the little pipe from the main pipe to the hose that connects to the throttle body. WHY COULDn'T IT HAVE BEEN THE HOSE!!! I totally don't have time to take off the intake manifold....the local shop quote? $318...$60 in parts...ugh!
  4. It appears that this thin pipe joins on one end to a hose that connects to the underside of the throttle body and on the other end joins into a large pipe that snakes under the "arms" of the intake manifold and I have a sneaking suspicion ends at my A/C pump. It looks to me like the small pipe/large pipe junction is one piece so I'll have to replace it all..... thoughts?
  5. I had a quick look....I appear to have a leak on the top part of the motor just under the throttle body intake on the driver's side....about 18mos ago a plastic t-fitting broke off in a similar position on the passenger side....it was a real PITA to find that little part (no close u-pull it yards). This make sense to anybody....I have very little time to work on this...I am home now but alone with my 1 year old....
  6. I wasn't in the car...all I know is the check engine light came on...my quick look under the hood showed the overflow bottle nearly empty and the radiator cap on tight (I literally filled them both yesterday). Thanks for the input....
  7. So, my wife just got home in our '90 Legacy and said the check engine light was on and it was pissing water out the belly. I have to leave myself pretty much right now so I can't do a thorough diagnosis....I pulled up the hood, the water isn't coming from the top or bottom radiator hoses nor is it coming from near the throttle body (there is a coolant line on the passenger side)....the radiator was purchased new last year..........ideas where my issue might be? Thanks... I gotta go but will check this later on....
  8. So I get a call from my wife...my beloved 90 Legacy wagon with 220k just died on her. I get off work and check it out (it was left at a gas station...nothing noticeable, not fouled, all wires connected, etc). DAMN!!! I push it across the steet to Ron's Automotive...who though not cheap is very well respected and gets the highest AAA rating. Turns out it was my fuel pump...$394!!! GACK!!! I couldn't find one with greater then a year warranty for less in a hurry so I went with it. The install wasn't bad though...for diagnosis, pump, install $490. When I asked what else the diag turned up the worst thing they came up with is "coolant flush". If that's the worst you can say about a car w/220K on it, you must be doing pretty good!! My car is ugly, faded, scratched, dented and KICKS A$$!
  9. I had that same problem but in an older car...my '90 Legacy. I had to swap out the whole cluster. East to install.
  10. I thought A/C added humidity and that is why your defroster used is to add humidity to the air and defrost...maybe I'm wrong.... fuel smells aren't good....check your fuel lines followed by your exhaust
  11. well...for awhile I'd been hearing a jangling sound from the rear of the car for awhile...couldn't find anything with the suspension or exhaust. Then yesterday I started hearing a griding when applying the brakes....I'd done the front not to long ago so figured the rear just needed doing. I check the rear passenger and I have a lot of pad left. I check the rear driver's side. I undo the lower bolt that allows the caliper to pivot upward and the whole caliper just comes right out. That upper bolt that is usually fixed (don't know the official name) apparently sheared right in two. So, now the upper part of the caliper isn't secure...I think it is boucing when I hit heavy bumps.... Anybody got a source for a replacement?
  12. I'd lose the wing and the hood scoop (go to front mounted IC)...I think that'd look much cleaner IMHO
  13. The hunting is usually either a vacuum leak (check all the hoses around the throttle body or perhaps the MAF air flow unit
  14. just curious but don't those bags come out damn fast? I've never been in a wreck with air bags but I thought they could bust you up pretty good if they hit you in the face
  15. First of all, I said RISK. I wasn't offering any scientific test and secondly I'd be hard pressed to believe you wouldn't get better gas mileage.
  16. that is a lot of work for that $hit. What the hell are you going to do with the 18" payload area?
  17. winter gas decreases mileage.....my '90 Legacy dropped from 28mpg to 24....happens every year.
  18. I respect your experience but.............show me that $1500 complete setup...I'll buy one today...we're talking whp to remember, not crank.
  19. Pulley, I/H/C I think will probably net you maybe 15 whp max. You will likely start to break stuff on your aged motor. $1-2K? Why are we even talking about turbos? Force inducting ANYTHING reliably is going to cost you twice that....
