tranny leak
hey tyler,we used rubber{napream?}thicker than iner tube,1/8"or so .i punched the hole so it fit tight and cut to fit.then kind of molded it{j/b} to hold the rubber, the stuff sags so we used duct tape as a "mold".i sold it 2 months later still ok.it was a last dicth effort. we considered "welding" a stock gasket, but well you know.hope this makes sence. good luck todd. some pic of my haz-mat hatch and the" thrasher" http://community.webshots.com/user/todds173

tranny leak
hey tyler, the seal is in the tranny! i was told to split the case ect. . instead we used j,b liqid weld and made a exturnal ruber gasket.clean around the "area" good, make a tight gasket,"weld" in place, almost encased the gasket, tape in place, let dry over night.it really worked!took some time but so does tulling the trans. good luck todd

Brat 93 - Tailgate issues
hey rinatm, my mistake, next time i'll say people.i'm still shocked to "talk" w/people across the world.so most brats are 2 wheel drive. i've never seen one.do "they" say why you can't change tires, 4x4 ect.? and the americans cry that we got it bad. i'd be jailed for my brat over there. anyway you take care over there, todd

Brat 93 - Tailgate issues
hey rinatm, not to be off subject but...i,m novis to this internet stuff.i never thought in a million years that a guy from israel, alaska, iowa, and washington state would be "talking" about brat tailgates.....i this cool or what! anyway old stock parts are the easyst fix, with ample junk yard parts it seems . i'm surprized how strict about tires ,tailgates ect. i always thought of israel trucks w/wild paint jobs, tapistry headliner, lookin cool! do some look that way? anyway sorry for being "off subject" if i can figure out how i'll send pic of my brat. take care todd

oil Q
if your guage is good,30-40lbs ,steady readings you should be ok.things to bring up presure. new oil pump or new seal kit for oil pump,20-50wt. or stp. we used it 30 years ago to bring up oil presure in studabakers ,packards and even hilmans, its a band-aid but will get you lots of miles if used regular. take care todd

oil Q

Fuel cutoff fusible link?
hey, i've had same problem ,just above the hood releace there is a relay? there is 5/6 wires coming out of it. its green or black 1.5"x1" i was told this unit is the roll over safty thing. the screw holding the hood relaese holds the relay. i by past it in a jam, and replaced it later. i found the hot wire and gently tested the other wires to get pump going. i broke the old one open ,greek to me but a nother used one fixed the fuel problem good luck todd

Drive train Weak Link?
and front cv joint, lower control arms get bent and exust studs.but they can take lickin and keep on THARSHING!!!.a good trick to pull the cvj through instaed of a slide hammer is use two old front wheel bearings. push through as far as you can. ad one bearing tighten casel? nut, remove add#2 tighten. you need to pull oil seal first, but 2 old bearings can lay at bottom of your tool box w/out taking up much room. have fun todd

cracks or casting marks?
iv'e seen many of those, the ones that are cracked bad will be really clean {preasure wasned w/coolant} iv'e also seen the cracks peened w/ a center punch, to try and fix them??? and the old school test.lay head out side and fill cyinder"head w/gas and time how long it takes to drain out. or not. as i recall if 1/2the gas is still there in 10 min.your good to go. or something like that, the more gas retained the better. good luck todd

today i bought a 86 4x4 wagon with 403,527 miles!!!.i'm impressed.i got it at the local tow yard. the front end is somewhat cracked up.hood, left front fender, control arm ect,but i drove it home for $50 bucks! the drive train seems tight and the rest of the body is straight. BUT the inside!!!! is grodey to the max!!!! i can handle ratty old cars, but this is gross, like 20 years of spilt coffee all over the dash and sweaty oily seats. then toped of w/thick dust. cool huh. i got another 86 w/good insides i'd like to deck it out,but we'll see. i'll try to post pic of speedo. so any way happy subin todd

mpg/ rpm, what works best??
thanks for the imput. i'll run em tight, 3000-4000 rpm.i never liked luggin it. todd

mpg/ rpm, what works best??
i installed a"mileometer" [vacume gage} on my ea81 hacth. its sposed to tell you when you get the best milage per vacume presure. well on the freeway at say 65mph in 3rd gear, 3500 rpms the guage reads GOOD/ high vacume. i shift to 4th,2000-2500rpms it reads POOR low vacume. i have 14 in tires so i'm some what guessing on the mph. i'm to lazy to really check the mpg{hey thats why i bought the mileometer} so i would think you would get better gas milage in 3rd/3500rpm. what are your thougts? and i'll sure try to do hood river. toddw/northern aliance crew ]
