  1. I noticed during the summer my 88 gl10turbo ran a little hot (im sure it has nothing to do with 280k ) and was curious how many people upgraded their radiators on these cars?? While working on it this weekend I noticed the rad on these cars are fairly small and I was thinking that a bigger and better flow rad would assist in the cooling of these cars. Any opinions or suggestions?? Thanks
  2. It looks like both valve covers and my oil pan are leaking. Also its coming from the front behind the timing covers, which I am assuming is the infamous oil pump leakage?? So to fix this problem, do I just clean the compartment real good (what should I use to clean it) and then pull the valve covers and put the new ones on. Then drain the oil and drop the pan (if it can be dropped -- havent looked yet) and put a new pan gasket in. Then pull all the timing "stuff" off again and replace the oil pump seal?? Does this sound right?? 88 gl10 turbo
  3. Incredible!!! It was the pitch stopper...tightened it and no more knock!!! AWESOME!!!! THanks!!!
  4. excellent!!! Thanks!!! I just went through everything underneath and it all looks good. Didnt check up top. Will check it tomorrow. Thanks again everyone!!
  5. Is that a real item??? Or is it beside the muffler bearings and blinker fluid??:-\
  6. Found two problems so far. 1) passenger side lower arm mount was loose, so I tightened it....fixed one clunk 2) driver side ball joint was exploded, so I replaced it...fixed second clunk Now it sounds like a motor mount is broke??? When I kind of leap frog the car you can hear a clunk coming from the center of the car directly in front of the firewall??? Any ideas beside motor mount???\ Boy what a difference with new struts:grin:
  7. I second the "woohoo" and request for pics that would be awesome!!!
  8. i sent you an email. I'll take the daylighters for 35.00 bucks shipped to spokane washington. My email is pwoens1@yahoo.com I also have a spare MAF but its out of an 88 gl10 so Im not sure if its the same on or not??
  9. nevermind....I just took it on a real bumpy section and its still knocking. Any ideas on front end clunks?? I replaced the struts and rotors/pads and in doing so I checked all connections and everything seemed snug??
  10. It was the "strut bearing plate". This is the plate that mounts to the upper front fender and in turn the strut mounts this plate. There is a bearing inside of there and during the strut replacement I noticed the bearing was shot. Pulled the part off my parts car and it was solid as a rock. No more thud or knock sound when shifting gears like a tard or hitting bumps of any nature. I just keep getting blown away about how easy these cars are to work on.....once you figure out the order of things:brow:
  11. My cousin wants my EA82 motor out of my 86 parts car but he has I believe an 84 and he says the motor says ea81 on it. Can he use my motor??
  12. Ahhh...I stand corrected in my assumption as well, that all GL10's were turbos. Mine is a turbo. Therefore, I know for certain that I need the tranny, front axles, driveline, rear diff, and rear axles. Since the 86 parts car that I am pulling the D/R out of does not have rear discs, and the 88 that the D/R is going into has rear discs, there may be an issue.....that was my original question that I somehow fouled up in my original post. Since everyone agrees that the inner axle spline count is different between the 86 NA and the 88 Turbo, here is the REAL question: will the rear axle outer spline count be different between an 86 N/A rear drum and an 88 turbo disc? Thanks fellas!!
  13. I just got done swapping the old struts, discs, and pads out on the ol 88 and I have to say it was a breeze!!! These cars are so easy to work on! Now its on to the D/R swap.
  14. Thats what I was looking for....I think I figured it out and am ready to tear into it this weekend. Thanks
  15. I am getting ready to pull the D/R out of the 86 and put it into my 88 S/R. My question is this: The 86 has rear drums. My 88 has rear discs. Will the rear axles from the 86 drum work on the 88 disc setup in the rear?? Will I need to do any modifications or will it simply fit?? I am thinking something wont work because, from what I gather, the spline count is different between these two rigs?? Forgive my ignorance as I havent even looks at the cars yet so its probably something I will figure out when I actually look at them:brow: Any insight or experience in this??
  16. A fella out of Australia, I believe, did one and had some pics under a thread titled lift is done (I think). His name was something like "clearwater". Maybe do a search for clearwater and find his pics?? Im gonna attempt one here in a month or so....but that doesnt help you much at this point....sorry;)
  17. Thanks for the input everyone. I picked up plugs, gapped them at 40, wires, and cap/rotor yesterday. Installed them and it runs like a champ now. 40 bucks in parts from my buddy at Napa and the sub runs like new. Thanks again for the input. This PVC pipe you mention...which pipe is this??
  18. I keep hearing the "downpipe" being talked about?? Is the downpipe the exhaust pipe that has the "turbo style catalytic converter" or whatever its called, in it??? I keep hearing about cleaning the downpipe and cutting the bottom of the airbox out?? Should I do any of this?? Also can I remove my air filter box and put in a k&n cone?? I have all that electrical "stuff" on the pipe running from my air box to the turbo "stuff" and assume the car needs this to run properly?? Should I just leave it alone if its working good??
  19. Forgive my ignorance, but what do I need to be aware of?? Are there lug nut and/or center cap problems with pug wheels???
  20. hey Morgan....I just got done checking out wally world and those Liberators are about 50 bucks each. They look like they would be good all around tires and for as little off-roadin as I am gonna be doing they will probably be great. No particular reason for the 205's versus the 235's, just figured they would fit a little better than the 235's and be a smidge better on gas and speedo difference???? Probably wrong on that though;) Im lifting the 88 gl10 wagon Sweet --- probably not what I would want
  21. Dumb question but being a noob I had to ask. I did a search and I think thats what it stands for. Are pugs wheels ideal because the bolt pattern is the same, or is there more behind it?? Also, I am heading to the pull your own yard and was curious what I should look for in regards to pug wheels?? I have decided on the 3 inch lift cause its my daily driver and will only be used off road once in awhile. Mostly used for fishing trips. So I am thinking the 14 inch pug wheels with 205/75/14 wally world all terrains?? Any input on this thought process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton, patrick

    lift is done

Hey Clearwater....that car is soooo clean!!! AWESOME job!!!
  23. And I am not certain I NEED to rebuild it but I would like to atleast overhaul it. What would you guys do....270k but runs great. It leaks oil kind of bad but doesnt smoke?? No weird noises, just a little cutting out here and there but I just went and bought new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor for 40.00 bucks from my buddy at NAPA. So Im kind of thinking maybe just pulling it out, putting in the D/R from the 86, new clutch, and overhaul the EA82T while its out?? So, if I just do an overhaul, what all should I do?? It is awesome to finally find a forum with knowledgeable people that really know what they are talking about!! This site is awesome!!!
  24. Hey Jay...looks awesome!! I think it will really come together once you get some lights up there also I just put yakimas up on top and built custom mounts for lights that mount to the yakimas. Then I used the ski/snow board holders for my fly rods while fishing.
  25. Hey Morgan...no not really any other symptons that I can think of. Just cuts out a little under heavy gas or a load, at idle or when accelerating normal it doesnt seem to do it?? So, dumb question, how do I turn the boost down a notch?? Thanks for the reply!
