  1. I have two turbo 88 subaru wagons but need to sell one. Heres the lineup: Blue 1988 5spd full time 4wd with lsd medium rust 160k on car blown head digidash ok brakes ok struts pwr sunroof pimp interior good tires hub caps turbo cold ac grey 1988 5spd minimal rust push button 4wd no lsd minimal rust 220k on car good heads analog dash brand new brakes brand new struts no sunroof stinky interior bad tires no hubcaps turbo no ac Im thinking about pulling all the drivetrain and bad motor out of the blue car.....rebuilding the motor and slapping it all in the gray car. Then take everything from the grey car, put it in the blue car, and sell the blue car for 800-1000 bucks. This would give me the grey car with full time 4wd and lsd with a motor that should last for a while?? What would you do?? How long does it typically take to pull the motor, trans, and diff off one of these wagons?
  2. Can I take a digidash from an 88 gl10 and put it in a 88 gl10 that did not have the digi dash?? Is wiring the same or would I need to swap harnesses as well?? Same question for the "computer" that resides in the center console.
  3. so would 1st gen be from the early 80's, second generation from the late 80's and third gen from the 90's?
  4. is there a way to tell which gen they are by looking at them?? I was under the impression turbo heads, no matter what gen, were expensive?? Thanks for the insight....definately appreciate it!!
  5. I found a set of rebuilt heads for 200 bucks?? The local cylinder/head shop wants 170 to check my originals and mill, valves, ect... And that doesnt include any "crack repairs". So im kind of leaning towards the 200 rebuilt set and then I have an extra set of turbo heads. Whatchall think of the 200 dollar set??
  6. For those that are running without the timing covers, are you also running without the rear covers, the ones with the marks?? If so, what do you use to set the dots on the pulleys to when placing the timing belts?? ea82t's are the motor in question?? Also....will running in snow without covers be a bad thing?? I have a skid plate installed but I would think some snow would creep up there???
  7. Has anyone used ACL hg's on a ea82 NA motor? I found a complete set of "ACL" overhaul gaskets for 38 bucks. They come with composite head gaskets. I have an ea82 non turbo with blow hg and was curious if these felpros would be acceptable for the non-turbo ea82 motors?? Heres what their ad says "full set of gaskets less valve seals/rear seal. You get a boxed Engine rebuilder set, with brand new composite head gasket(s). Includes valve cover gskts, oil pan gaskets, exhaust manifold, intake mfld., timing cover gaskets, head gasket(s), and lots of little misc. gaskets. NOTE - this kit includes the valve seals, too." what do ya think? Its for a car that I want to replace a blown hg on and the sell. I dont want to sell someting that is only going to last a week but I dont want to put a lot of money into it either?? As always....thanks!!
  8. Since my cost through my napa account is waaaaaay cheaper than anywhere else, should I use a napa oil pump during my ea82t rebuild?? anyone else use one??
  9. I used a napa gasket set on my old honda accord (which was replaced by an outback so no nasty comments LOL) and it seemed to work alright?? Im gonna start the ea82t head rebuild this weekend and by next weekend should have the engine ready to put back in the car. I checked online and a complete gasket set is nearly 200 bucks. I havent checked through my napa account yet but from past experiences I can usually get these kits for less than 100 bucks. Has anyone used the napa kits on these engines???
  10. pull a motor....pull the heads off...paint a canopy.....be entertained watchin some locals try and put a timing belt in
  11. that sucks!!! Seems to be too much of that going around lately Truly sorry to hear about it. I'll keep my eyes open for ya Im glad I jumped on this 88 ft 4wd cause the kid told me he had a bunch of calls already but didnt want to show anyone cause it was t-day....fortunately I talked him into it and came with the trailer and cash in hand:banana: . Now I have to get dirty :-\ hahaha. Hopefully it doesn click after I fix it....oh wait....thats only if monst works on it:lol:. I feal ya though...I was pretty upset after the dude sold the rx to me and then to someone else.
  12. forgive my confusing post as I am stuffed with t-day food!!! Its the pimp blue interior. Its a 5spd. Its full time 4wd. Its an ea82 turbo. It has the diff selection knob. The rear diff has the lsd label. And it was only 200 bucks.
  13. hahahah....I bought it!!! Its in my garage right now....88 dark blue wagon awd full time with button lsd 5spd. A little more rust than I wanted but not too bad. Power sunroof and digi dash with computer. Plus the PIMP interior!!! 200 bucks with blown hg. That thing scoots good. Couldnt pass it up for 200 bucks
  14. I plan on pulling the motor and doing atleast the head inspection. What else would you reccomend doing at that point? Rings, bearing, ??????? Thanks
  15. Can I just replace the blown head gasket and then keep driving it??? Assuming the heads not warped of course?? Im sure it depends on how hot everything got also??? Just curious what you absolutely have to do once you blow a head gasket on these 88 ea82t's. thanks
  16. I have never seen one until today. Nor have I seen the pimp interior that is talked about from time to time, until today. Same with the digi dash. I thought my gl10 was the top-o-the-line for the 88's. Until I saw this one. It has that push button lsd 5spd too.
  17. I ran it for you and no problems found. I need an email address to forward the carfax email to. I wont be able to forward until this afternoon but its ran and shows no problems. Pm me with your email. thanks patrick
  18. nope dont know any of it....but I answered your question...so I qualify for the beer , right? between you and monstaru I should have all the knowledge needed to lift my 88 and throw an ej22 in there
  19. make sure and remove the little plastic piece behind the mirror first...the triangle piece....it pops off with no problems. When placing the panel back on, start from the top, handle first, then place the very top portion of the panel in its track snug to the window the entire distance of the door panel.....push it towards the window and down at the same time. Everything else will line up if you get that very top portion of the panel snug. hope that came out right??
  20. I saw a 87(ish) wagon yesterday that was lifted......it was going south on sullivan and I couldnt turn around to chase em down. That is my first ever sighting of a lifted sub around here:-\ I bet the outback looked cool!!
  21. Awesome...Im gonna have to check it out!! You want those brakes now Im stoked cause now you can do mine:lol:
  22. Here is my second one....first one was a long time ago and I didnt realize what I had then or I would have kept it....although last I heard it had over 500,000k on it and the only major problem was the rust http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/6439Subaru_1-thumb.JPG
  23. when I called the dealer to ask how they flushed the brake fluid, one dealer told me under his breath that in reality all they do is use a baster and remove all the fluid from the reservoir and replace it with new fluid. Kind of a scatty deal if you ask me. If you took it in for a bleed/flush then I would be upset, but if you took it in for fluid replacement they may have done just that......but only a partial job for that matter. Id follow the above advice.
