Well, my XT is 16 years old, after all...
rrgh. when i put the RX trans/LSD in my wagon, one of the RX's axles was hopelessly frozen onto the LSD's stub. I had to find some place to help me do it the Hard Way at 430pm on a saturday. not easy but some guy at the goodyear store gave me 20 minutes of his time with a couple large pry bars and an air powered chisel or something and we got if off. I had to change the axle stub on the LSD afterward...

Any of you extreme builders want a contract?
someone needs to pick up this project! I've had more fun spending Skeet's money on booze and female-related entertainment, oh yeah, and the car too. seriously, it's a lot of fun to spend someone else's money on a project like this; it's like it's your real job instead of that place you go to wurk. wirk? faah. good luck with your move mtsmiths!

my poor poor xt :(
where in BC are you, and what sort of $$ would you like for the engine? What exactly was done on the engine and what generation are the heads? Does "full custom exhaust" include downpipe and crossover pipe? Thanks..

best window crank removal tool?
I'm going to buy a tool or something. Hemostat didn't work for me, too annoying to have to unlock it every time i missed. too dark in the garage (nice to borrow that since it rained and the brakes tood forever). no, i wasn't distracted by other uses for a hemostat either thanks..

better breathing turbo with catless downpipe

best window crank removal tool?
I need to take the front door panels off of the Skeetmobile. I have broken a few window cranks at the JY because it's just the junkyard but I'd like Skeet's to stay on. Is there a better tool for this that I can choose? money is no object as it will stay with the car when Skeet picks it up

rear disc conversion ... interchange alert
I'll call him tomorrow. If I have time I'll go look at the dealer's parts book too. The only thing I can think of would be that they're 2WD. I even test fitted them inside the wheels as they were obviously off the car for all this, and they cleared OK. Maybe a non-turbo GL10? :cornfuzz:

rear disc conversion ... interchange alert
Caleb, you're saying that the backing plates I had were 2WD? 30 minutes.. yeah, it all went really smoothly except for the whole NOT FITTING thing. Don't worry, I made sure there was beer on hand as well. Ahhh Newcastle, how do I love thee? let me count the ways.. one two three four five six! Did you all know that an 8" (mayb 9") adj. crescent wrench's handle works great as a rotating-the-piston-back-in tool for rear calipers? I have the multi-cube thingy for the fronts but the rears are the hollow cylinder type of piston. I haven't sprung for the pro style retractor kit yet. Maybe :santa:'s listening? hint hint Thankfully, the front calipers had almost-new pads in them so I didn't have to deal with the multi cube too much to retract them again. I hate that thing, it's probably designed to slip off every 5 turns :madder: Oh, and halfway through the process, the old Black and Decker drill I borrowed from Dad broke.. the set screw that holds the .. uhh.. drill bit grabby part, to the output shaft was gone so it popped off the drill halfway through. had to call Dad and make him deliver another drill (he used to own a HW store / shop so he has a few laying around ) .. delays delays delays! DAMN YOU MURPHY, YOU AND YOUR INSUFFERABLE LAW! Kaz.. not even close

rear disc conversion ... interchange alert
So. when does it take all ************ day to do a rear disc brake swap? ($10 to anyone who can figure out what that ***'ed out word is ) When the backing plates don't fit over the rear knuckles! The middle of the knuckles was too narrow. I had to go to the HW store and get some grinding bits. Drilled a bunch of smaller holes 1/4"-ish apart all the way around, grabbed the tabs with the vise grips and wiggled them off. good thing that middle section is just aluminum! Then I ground it down and rounded the rest of the way. Not cosmetically perfect but it went on OK. Anyone know what's up with this? I got these rear backing plates from a guy I know, no fault of his, but I don't know what they came from. Maybe a 2WD? did any 2WDs come with rear discs? If anyone knows what cars have these smaller, not-quite-as-universal rear backing plates, it might be nice to make a note in the swap article in the USRM so we don't choose that car to pull our rear backing plates from.. unless that's what they're going on as well BTW the botl holes lined up fine, the inner diameter was too small though.

Why air down your tires? and how Low? small article i found for all you 4wheelers
would the lesser weight of our subarus matter, vs a V8 vehicle's weight?

My custom subwoofer enclosure ('85 GL Wagon) (9/28 UPDATE!!)
that's really nice. I don't want to sacrifice the smuggler's hatch though so eventually I'd like to make custom side... uh, thingies, taking up the rest of the space next to the wheel wells. It'll cover up the side compartments but I plan to incorporate something else, maybe drawers. I also saved the carpet from my last gray 86 T-wagon, so I can make it look factory carpeted. A couple suggestions: Get or make a cargo cover. It would be easy to screw in 4 attachment points where the stock spring loaded CC attaches, and you could probably get some matching vinyl from an upholstery shop if you can't snag a stock CC. Also, close the sub box with hood pins!

86 GL Rallycross picture
I've yanked a few third eyes from the JY and I've never had to hack out anything welded.. I unbolt the whole radiator support from behind the hood latch and everything. Also I don't believe it will fit on an EA82 car since the EA82 car's hood latch is in the way. Unless one has hood pins?

saaaaaaaafety glasses
oh, yeah, i almost forgot. brake cleaner in your eyes feels absolutely heavenly. try it sometime on another note, while putting the skid plate back on the front of the Skeetmobile, i dropped one of the bolts right on my SGs, and also had a small chunk of grime somehow make it past them and land right next to my tear duct. Qtip time!!
-
saaaaaaaafety glasses
always wear them! I do. Almost always anyway. I was sledgehammering the rear drums off of Skeet's car in the middle of the rear disc brake swap, and a section of the drum chipped off and bounced off of my forehead. Could have bounced into my eyes if conditions were different. Yes, I was wearing my SGs too. Got one pair, the "good" pair for most stuff, and the old beaten up pair in the toybox, i mean the toolbox, for an extra or the JY or whatever.
