  1. This Saturday, I'm driving up and buying Tyrel's rebuilt engine from his wrecked XT. I'll be putting it in my wagon in a few weeks. any problems getting my stock wiring harness to fit with the spider intake? which distributor should I plan to use? 1987 XT or my stock dist? The XT engine does not have A/C and my car does. Will the A/C and alternator brackets from my engine fit on the XT engine or do I need to go bracket hunting at pull n save? Thanks...
  2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33617&item=2433065135 Has anyone ever seen these before? It seems worth a mention.
  3. E-10 is the torx socket size. make sure you don't buy a bit instead of the socket
  4. heh. i ambushed the snap on guy to get mine too. I mighy tsuggest grounding 1mm-2mm off the end of the socket as it's beveled and I felt it affected the grip a little bit.
  5. sometimes forcing that extra inch out of the torsion bars or front struts can whack the camber out so it's all positive (the tops of the tires lean out when looking at them from the front or back) . handling can be weird and it's bad for tire wear so keep that in mind...
  6. cool! they only get faster, the more of them you do when I put the pin back in, I tap it in directly with my hammer until the hammer won't clear the axle or trans, then I turn the punch around and tap on the narrow end, holding the fat end against the pin. "works every time"..
  7. I was cleaning out my favorites and found this info in a thread I bookmarked from the old sleazyboard USMB. ---------------------------- Thanks to Skip, we now have the AutoCad files needed to make the gaskets without paying a setup cost. Skip created two styles. If you look at a turbo head gasket, there is one hole that has an o-ring as part of the gasket. Skip made one file with the hole the same as the inside diameter of the o-ring, and the other with what would be the hole diameter without the o-ring, so that you can get an o-ring to install there. So, if you want one, you just have to call Gasket Works USA, (mention Corky) 626.358.1616 voice/page, or 626.358.7971 fax, tell him which one of the sizes you want, and thickness (I think .043 is the correct thickness), he takes either Visa or MC. I'm going for the one with the larger whole, and finding an o-ring to fit. ----Corky---- hmmm, I was quoted about $70 per set (2 gaskets) from him, Gasket Works (a year ago) plus a $60 template fee, so it was $130 to me. I thought then follow on sets would be at $70. He is located in Irvine, CA, about one hour from me. He is strictly mail order, and does not have a store front, so one cannot visit. Prices may be up over the year, but I think $100 is high. There is no right or left, so one gasket fits all, and 0.043 is what I used too. Shipping should be near $10 CONUS. I made a set for $20 parts and many hours labor, using a drill press, cutters, and files. Not cost effective for me to do, but a CNC would be easy. Check him on price as these are small (under 7" x 11" sheets) and if can get them for $20 for two, then he should get or have big supplies of copper sheet for less. The cost is mostly labor (and having the RIGHT tools, i.e. CNC, etc). Just my ramblings. R/ Patrick. ---PK Davis---
  8. I think using automatic transmissions would be much easier; another reason to use a newer engine series as the transmissions are better too. 2 EJ20Ts with 2WD autos beat 1 EJ20T with a manual!
  9. i think the switch is in the tranny. are all of your related wiring connections clean?
  10. thanks guys.. I'll talk to these people and keep this thread bookmarked.
  11. hey Jared. thanks! and nice to meet you too. Sorry again I had to subject you to meeting Skeet
  12. oh yes. I would love to throw another EA82T in the back of an 86+ wagon. As long as I'm pretending I'm rich, I'd rather put two EJ20Ts in an EA81 wagon and trick it out.
  13. darn, he made it back.. I mean, Glad to hear from you! how was the rest of the drive? you should have a nice pork chop sandwich before you go to bed. PORK CHOP SANDWICHES!!!
  14. if you take out the battery (and maybe the alternator, been a while) you can get it. I think I used an elbow and probably an extension right above the spark plug socket on some plugs too. don't forget some anti seize on the new plugs! I use the gray stuff in the little tube and love it.
  15. I'm getting rid of this thing by the end of the weekend if nobody wants it. EA82T crossmember from the RX i scrapped. I left it under the engine but I'm going to separate them and put the engine on a HTKYSA wooden stand with castors in the bottom. If anyone wants it, post here. I'll be tossing it in the dumpster at work monday morning.
  16. uhh, don't, actually.. I have a guy in Spokane that I need to get some subaru info to.. and he takes lots of meaurements and plots the drilling pattern on autoCAD to avoid the vanes in the middle and such. It could affect the balance and cause heating or warping, I'd think. Good idea though..
  17. Hi everyone.. I have two friends with subarus and both have nearly dead engines. One car is an 85 with carburetor (has a bad knock), and one is an 88 with SPFI (drove it without enough coolant too much and now it overheats baaaaad). Do any of you nearby have an extra EA82 available, the cheaper the better? Please and thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
  18. coolness, that's what i was looking for. I think the budget will be the ultimate deciding factor as I'd rather do the SPFI-T thing but i needed to know if it was worth the time to deal with the RX engine. thanks!
  19. Hi Jon. That's a bad question to ask me mwahahaha I don't want to go too expensive, really, as I'd rather sink serious bucks - assuming I had them - into a WRX engine swap. But I think for peace of mind I'll need to replace the engine sooner than the actual upgrade will be possible. Although I could probably sell a hotted-up EA82T to someone here for a reasonable price.. so as far as cost is concerned, the engine I already have is cheaper since I already have it.
  20. Hey Skip. How fast exactly is your car? Maybe larger injectors would work? Maybe it's time for some dyno work. You might also try trolling the ausubaru.com board.. the aussies seem to hot rod their EA82Ts harder than we do over here...
  21. Hi Blue Train.. thanks for the endorsement! I told Skeet and he was glad to hear it.. He'll be rolling out in a few hours. Hopefully this will be the only HELP ME thread for this trip thanks for the input guys.
  22. no, the RX engine is in my secret hiding place, not in a car. If it is still good with a 220k mile block i might just reuse it.
  23. I'm trying to decide between rebuilding my RX engine or starting with another one. The RX engine has 220k miles on it, a melted timing belt cover case, and a hole in the crossover pipe. I'm guessing it overheated (duh) and someone replaced a head gasket or something. I'm OK with inspecting and perhaps replacing internals, but i'd like some opinions about using the block and rods and stuff as they're kind of high miles for a turbo, and it would be less work than shopping for a better EA82T engine first. I have some OK looking gen 3 heads I scored at they PY that would go on whatever I build. Plus, if I start from scratch, I'd like an SPFI block for better compression .. won't that be nice under my garaged spider intake! finally got all the parts for the swap So I need to decide what to shop for and everything.. any help? thanks
