  1. Yeah, I got irritated. Sorry. Most of the reason is people keep telling me to post more clearly. I thought I had. I clearly stated that they had been wrecked (in two out of three cases) during retrevials. NOT during actual driving. I am a decent driver, and have some trail experience as well. What I was searching for was an opinion on reinforcing them. I guess it's like when I was 12 and my mom had to ask me specific questions to keep from getting sarcastic answers because I was a little know it all ( suprising right) , so that's been noted for the future. I will ask as direct of questions as I can, or refrain from asking at all. I love my EA81 and I don't want to start static here as I could use opinions in the future, and would like to be able to give back as well. I've made a few good conections here, and had some great luck with selling and purchasing pasrts. I just never got this side of things before now. So again I apologize to those who I offended, but I'm not erasing names of people in my post, and they know why. -Ryan
  2. Alright..thanks I guess. Sure are a lot of sarcastic comments . While I didn't agree with who ever posted the grill idea, it was still nice to get a serious answer and an actuall opinion. Not a " I watch where i'm going" . Yeah? So do I. I've broken one while driving, it was unavoidable. The other two where while getting un stuck. Again, unavoidable. Thanks to those who suggested usefull things, even the taking the lenses out, hadn't thought of it. Probably even getter better light. To those who like ot be funny, you know I thought this bored was about helping, getting information, and making connections. It seems like since we all have this in common we actually be able to help eachother out, not just throw egos around. ************ if I wanted a jerkoff opinion I would have pm'd Mud Ratt or General Disorder. Also, it's clear some of you don't real all the way, as you said things that contradicted what I sauid in the post, If you are gonna be a know it all pleae make sure you get all the details first. I will refrain from needing help in the future.
  3. THANK YOU! For actually posting something helpfull.
  4. Haha. I'm not a terrible driver. I was slightly exagerating out of frustration. 3 times though for sure. It's usually while pulling the car out . The last time it was from the direction of the pivit point on the come along. It was unaviodable. What I was looking for here was ideas for toughing up this area, not critisim on driving. Thanks. EDIT. I also JUST got my swampers. They are sitting in my living room waiting to be mounted. As of now I'm rollin' Schwabby Wildcat all terains that blow a**. Welded diff going in next mounth. So that has some effect.
  5. Siil Q, but how do other people keep from smashing rear tail lights on the trail? I'm destined to screw one up almost every time, then spend $10-$15 a pop just to do it all over again. Does anybody have a good suggestion for a cover or gaurd or bumper add on. Right now I'm rocking Mud Ratt bumpers, so I could weld or drill whatever onto the bymper. It's also a daily driver so nothing to crazy? Little help...
  6. Thank you! The link from the homepage was not working for me.
  7. Why is the repair manual section no longer working? Anyone have the link to the webber tuning page?
  8. Another ridiculous problem... My ea82 (86) is going crazy. When the weather is hot it gets worse for whatever reason. I will be idleing fine around 700, up untill right when i hit the middle mark between cold and hot on the gauge. Then after I drive about 5 minutes it starts to rev at around 3 grand, sometimes even four. I can pull the pedal back with my foot and it helps a little but not all the way. If i try to adjust down the idle speed when it's doing this, the next time I try and start the car it wont idle by itself. Somethings not right... Any ideas?
  9. I have really nothing to say. I just saw an interesting paint job and thought i would share. Sorry it's crappt camera phone pics.
  10. GOT IT!! I do beleive that it was this silly rump roast electronic brake controller I have. I really didn't even realize it was there, but I guess it's for the trailor hookup. Anyway, I took it out. I also hit a bump so that coulda been it. In any event they work. Thanks for the info, I at least learned a few things.
  11. BUMP it's an 83 I am going to check out the power situation today... thanks guys.. i will return
  12. I'm not seeing it. You mean the hazards? The park lights are just the regular lights half way on right? Like one click?
  13. K. I changed the switch. No luck. I got a power test light thing and it seems that one wire of the 3 gets power on the tail light. (being the brake light) red got power being brake, green no power I assume is tail, and black no power is ground. I have still NO DASH NO TAIL NO REVERSE LIGHTS I fiddled under the dash, nothing seemed a miss. I am so lost and so pissed right now. People please!!!!
  14. Thanks. I'll try that. Any other ideas for me peoples?
  15. I went psudeo offroading yesterday while on a rafting trip. I hit a few big rocks and some sand, but nothing major. Afterwards i noticed I had no dash or tail lights. I still have break lights and I still have head lights. I checked any fuse that looked like it would affact this, I also tried switching bulbs. The new bulbs didn't work either so something is causing lack of power to both. Any ideas? Please? I'm lost...I'm not sure what else to check. Thanks guys. -Ryan B
  16. A dumb thing i did once... Make sure your pitch stopper bar isn't too tight. used to cause mine to pop from reverse.
  17. Thanks for the info. I was actually loking for an EA81 engine but cant find one. I have to EA82's so I thought I might swap. I actually already have a 5spd tranny from an EA82 so it sounds like it wouldnt be too difficult. I'm off, its this or the ocean engine.
  18. Can it be done? Whats involved if I just use the EA82 tranny? Do the motor mounts line up? Electrical? Starter, disty? Etc.
  19. Off topic... but, you are posting in the off road forum. You should maybe know that sway bars need to come off lifted or offroading rigs.
  20. I have an 83 Subaru GL wagon. Faded factory tan (looking yellow these days). Where to start here..... 3 inch mudrat lift soon to replaced with a 4 inch lift done the right way. (you should see the halfass rear strut tower braces) You could say that I have a Webber, but just barely. Must be the most bass ackward one I've seen. I do beleive it was from a Volkswagon , my buddy had to fab me up a custom throttle linkage to make the accelorator cable mount properly, seeings as how it mounts on the right of my ea81 instead of the left. The carb is older than Jesus. (When mudrat drove the car to Portland from Eugene it had a mutha ******* rubber band holding the accelorator cable together) Reinforced rear diff, soon to be welded. Dual range and a five speed tranny swap. Power steering conversion. I think thats about it. Oh yeah, custom mudrat fenders (about the only mudrat thing on the car I'm happy with). 15" crome wheels with 28.5 Schwabby Wildcat all terains, soon to be replaced by 29 swamper TSL's as soon as I get the taxes back. I do beleive that is all for now. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1929
  21. Nope, he's lucky to have friends like us. Thats why we stripped it, then I called someone from Portland Auto Wrecking to take it for scrap so Nick wouldn't get billed by the city. Since he works for the city, that could have caused some problems. My originall intention was just to get it out of there before the city took it. The rest ended up happening, and the doors were taken off mostly to entertain Blackstone. Although, Nick did want one. Oh well, on to new adventures.
  22. Everything underneath was rusty, the engine was full of sand, the front axles long robbed, electrical was shot, the rear diff was robbed, no seats. That was all before we stripped it. and YES, we left the rear for towing.
  23. I'm sure everyone remembers the SS Subaru , the car that went afloat in the mighty Pacific. Well as it belongs to Nicky Night Eyes, and he is in Hawaii. When I came outside and saw the tow notice that had been put on it, I wasn't sure what to do. So we Blackstone and I (mostly Blackstone) stripped it to guts. The really great part of the whole deal is, apperantly you can take a car apart on the side of a main road in N.E. Portland at midnight and noone seems to care. Noone even looks at you funny, or asks why you are doing it. Not even the cop who drove by at the end when there weren't even doors anymore.Sunday night, Midnight.
