  1. I have an 89 GL10 Turbo that was originally a 4 speed auto and converted to a 5 sp man. It was suggested that I should remove the TCU as it isn't Auto anymore. Anyone know of any extra jump wiring or equivalent in addition to the TCU removal? thx, Simon
  2. My 89 GL10 toes in \ / on the rear and I experienced rapid wear on the inside of both rear tires. The rear end has been raised a bit. I was told I had a 2wd setup at the back and that I needed a 4whdr setup (as the car is 4whdr). I believe it was the struts he was referring to. simon
  3. I checked with my Mech. and it was the 4 speed. We have disconnected the TCU (as it is now a standard). When you remove the TCU, is there any additional wiring that needs to be done or is it a case of just disconnecting it. Thx, Simon
  4. I bought a car from this guy and found out that the rear wheel well at the top had a 4" x 4" hole via rust and the guy stuffed a rag into it to......well, fool me / stop the fumes? I didn't look that hard into the trunk area. Maybe something like that with yours? simon james
  5. Hmmm, okay. Thx for the thought. Thought maybe it could be connected. Not sure of the type of Auto it was previously. The delays do seem to be connected to temp as it doesn't seem to be an issue when I first start driving the car but then it appears later on when I'm driving. Someone suggested it could be the engine coolant sensor (I think) but my mech said that those hesitations aren't like the ones I am experiencing. Simon
  6. Is this Power Light only on Automatics? I have an 89 GL 10 Turbo, originally auto and converted to standard. It blinks when I start it up. I experience quick hesitations when the Turbo kicks in. Could this be related somehow? That there may be some sensor or maybe something in the computer that is for Automatics only that is not liking something that is occuring now that the car is a standard? Just trying to figure the hesitations out. I turned ignition on without starting the car up and power light was solid. I started the car up and and light blinked 16 times, then solid. Thx, Simon
  7. I'm on it. I have an 89 GL10 Turbo that I'm getting a Goerlichs exhaust put on it as I have a straight pipe on it currently. Would you like the clip pre-straight pipe or post straight pipe? simon
  8. Yah, my 89 GL10 is catless and straight 2 1/2" pipe all the way. It's not bad with the foot on the gas but if you're up there in the RPM and you let go of the gas, it's really loud. Apparently, straight pipes aren't illegal in British Columbia, Canada. Simon
  9. I got a bit of a rear lift on my 89 GL10 Turbo, I believe via springs, and it looks like the bottom of the wheels is slightly more medial than the upper aspect of the wheel/tire. It is very slight. The tires are wearing very quickly on the inside tread of both rear tires. I bought the car off a guy that did a bit of a Frankensub job so I'm not sure what needs to be done in addition to changing the rear springs when you need a bit of a lift. Maybe a bent rear axel? I know that lots of other people lift the rear end of their subs but I haven't seen anything like the bottom of the wheel/tire closer together than the top. The difference is slight but the tire wear indicates that it is an obvious problem. Simon James
  10. I'm putting an exhaust setup on my 89 GL10 Turbo tomorrow. It's an MSL 2" in and dual 1 1/2" out. I've had a 2 1/2 " straight pipe also with no cat/muffler and it's freakin loud and pop, farts, belches and backfires all the time and I also found that I got compression braking. If I had to have my back seats down for some reason or other my ear drums paid the price.I'm looking forward to hearing the turbo spool up. Past all of that, I will miss the grumble of the engine as it sits idling. Oh well. Hopefully with the new setup, I shouldn't miss out on too much flow. Simon
  11. Yah, plugs wires, cap and plugs and ignition coil were changed I'll look into if we check fuel pressure under boost. I'll also check the transistor on the coil bracket. I assume it is separate from the ignition coil? Also checking the alternator as well. We also checked for voltage changes throughout the system to see if there were any differences.
  12. It's interesting that you mentioned the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor. I don't know if this is related, but I have noticed that it is much more pronounced when I have been driving for a little bit. When I first start up the car, I really don't notice it.
  13. Driving to Vancouver, B.C. from the Okanagan via the Coquihalla Highway so there will be snow there for sure. Looking forward to AWD
  14. Any chance of a meet in the near whereabouts of British Columbia in the near future? Simon
  15. I'm thinking of putting in an Intercooler so I'll try to get a pre and post reading. Simon.
  16. Mmmm, thanks for the thoughts. I'll give those a try. Nice to know that I'm not the only one that is experiencing this. Personally, it makes me mental when it happens. It's like having a sort-of-turbo. Hey Vanislru, that's interesting that you got the problem when you put in the manual trannie as this car has gone from auto to manual. Some weird incompatibility with some sensors btw man and auto? Simon
  17. I had an earlier thread with problems with hesitations (2 every second or so) when the turbo kicked in during acceleration. Checked throttle position sensor, o2 sensor, plugs/cap/lines, all other lines, air filter, vacuum leak, ignition coil, timing and have now changed the fuel filter with no luck. My mech was still thinking that the straight pipe I have may possibly be involved with the exaust leaving at an uncontrolled rate. I'm going to put on an XT exaust / tail pipe set up anyways because my ears ring after going downhill in gear and it may make diagnosing a little easier when you can hear the engine a little more properly. That's my own totally uneducated theory. I'll update with any info as it appears to be a not too uncommon issue. Do many other people with EA82 engines encounter this at all? simon
  18. If you Dyno a Turbo, is the turbo active or do can you take a non-turbo then turbo reading? How does that work as the turbo kicks in at a certain point. Anyone have stats on performance increases with an intercooler on the EA-82T cars?
  19. Okee, I'll go lukkin'. I'm interested to ask him what he thinks is in the car. He just graduated from a Subaru Mech or equivalent course and got his level whatever. If he says Legacy, then yah, either he's not telling me something or he needs to do less drugs. It was a friend of his in the local Subee group that sold me the car so lets all hope he says GL10, heh.
  20. Hmmm, what's up with the Boost Controller? And intake options? My mech and I were yakking about putting in an intercooler. How do the above affect my performance?
  21. Yah, I don't have a whole tonne to spend on upgrades. I'm just reeling from the disappointment of not having a Legacy engine. Still goes pretty good though. Any initial ideas on upgrades for the capital challenged? simon
  22. Yah, I run 91 Octane. I'm thinking it is the fuel filter as my non-turbo state is getting a little bit jerky. We checked the timing and it was good. We were wondering what happened to the timing when the turbo kicks in. We were joking that I would duct tape my mechanic to the front of the car and have him check the timing when I kicked it into turbo but apparently insurance doesn't cover that. There was an original idea that the knock sensor was throwing off the timing when the turbo kicks in but we checked that as well and it was fine. Fuel filter sounds very likely as fuel requirements really increase during turbo so I'm picking one up tomorrow and we'll pop it in and see. Either that or perhaps the computer is mental. Who knows. I'll let you know, my subaru brothers, when I pop it in. simon p.s. any thoughts on how a person can increase performance in....say....a 1989 GL10 Turbo. I've put a K&N Filter in already.
  23. Hmmm, well I think that I'll be giving him a call then as he had said that the engine was a Legacy. I'm picking up a fuel filter and see what difference that makes. Just a quessie, what is the purpose of the coil pack? As it is present in the Legacy's and not in GL10 Turbos? Just so I don't appear to be too much of a newbie when I'm yakking with him. thx, Simon
