  1. Just curious how much was the reserve (or did ya pay for it). Looks like fun!!!
  2. Sorry the name Imp was taken about 50 years ago now by a much cooler car I might add. Don't embarrass it by defacing its name.
  3. ummm... www.car-part.com. Xt6 engines are a dime a dozen. Would've given ya mine 2 weeks ago before it went to the yard with the last SVX parts car. I'm not thinking the belts are on wrong but rather a tooth or two off. My 6 wouldn't run with 'em 180 off no matter how hard I tried. Only other thing would be a clogged exhaust but I doubt that very much. If you were closer I'd come have a look but not within reasonable distance to my wife. Trust has nothing to do with it everybody makes mistakes. My mechanic (subie certified and only works on Subies particuarlly the old stuff) put mine on 180 off. Took me 3 days to even think about taking the cover off b/c I trust him too but it happens, especially with an engine that has broken belts! I'd stake money that the timing is off in some way. Granted I don't think 180 from my experiences trying to get the thing to run but it is off.
  4. Glad you think you can make it Paul. Like I said though the grill will be there for all to use for grilling anything,

  6. Yes they have showers. Yes you are supposed to buy a trailer permit BUT just tell them you're with the SCCA and park down at their track. No permit needed. You gonna run that thing on the autox track? Wanna race:lol:
  7. Then from my understanding you wouldn't want to use the inferior lubrication of sythetic over a blend or conventional oil at speeds. Something about the molecules being exactly the same size vs varying sizes makes sythetic worse as a lub for sustained driving but is also the thing that makes it better for cold starts. Gary? You change that tranny and dif fluid?
  8. I just changed the oil in our SVX racer with about 35 miles on it, definately not as clean as it once was and was causing quite a racket. So what when you have 200k on your subie are you just gonna listen to the racket the valves are making for 5k? Sythetic at any point is fine, it might just leak for a while until the seals adjust (up to about a year). Remember though, it isn't as good of a lubricate for normal driving but is better for those doing a lot of stop and go driving. From my understanding for normal driving a sythetic blend is the way to go and is cheaper than sythetic anyways.
  9. Just wanted to clear up what Matt was saying. Basically, unless we get the 25 cars he's out the $150. It doesn't look like we're gonna get there so there isn't much point to registering extra cars for the sake of getting close to the 25 so we might as well contribute to Matt's VERY GENEROUS lay down of capital so we don't burn. Glad you think you might make it Paul. I was assuming you wouldn't be down and were being helpful. Just didn't want anybody else to make that mistake. Oh and I will put my grill on the truck for the cookers.

  11. But you should have just sent that money to Matt (assuming you're not going or taking two cars Paul). Registration numbers don't matter now. Matt could be alone under his tent for that same $150 plus his one car registration.

  13. Just follow the wires from the plug to this flat electrical thing. If you're a VW man, you'll be amazed at the ease of working on a Subaru. It is put together much simpler and you don't have tons of cheap plastic covers to break the clips on to get to much of the stuff. Boy did I hate working on my wife's old Jetta! All that non-sense stuff like 3 plastic covers to remove to change a light bulb that went out annually just drove me crazy... She's now in a Subie mostly for that reason! Best of luck man, definately get a used one, if you have a pull-a-part locally you should be able to get one for $10 or so.
  14. I too like Gary's suggestion about the ignition pack. The 1st gen legacies had the same issue when wet. As the coil pack aged it would crack then water would sneak in. Find a used one and plug and play. Defiantely NGK plugs, not so sure about the wires though.
  15. If it is a light on the car it must work. Think of a F-250 or the like with running lights on the top of the cab to give the x-mas tree effect. They all need to work even though they are not factory. If present, they need to be functioning. Oh and front wipers, high and low beams, tail lights, turn signals aren't on every vehicle. I could take my friends 66 Honda dream and get it inspected as it doesn't have turnsignals but it was an option in 66 for 'em. It'll still pass in PA. Just need to use hand signals. There are provisions for vehicles that were made before some of this stuff was required but in reality most have already gone to antique tags anyways. Oh and my fogs on my SVX haven't worked in 4 years and she passes without an issue. Granted you have to know that they are there as they're part of the light housing.
  16. No its any hole in the frame or unibody. Don't they realize those are just speed holes? Sad thing is they'll pass it if you put freaking caulk in the hole.

  18. Why would it need to be done? I mean, it is after all the oldest known non airplane Fuji product this side of the pond and all. Who cares if it is just in pieces.
  19. If you wanna bring it down to PA I'll do it for half that price. Honestly why would the 6 be any harder than the 4 aside from 2 more plugs. It isn't any wider just longer. As for the coil packs being on the plugs the SVX has that and it actually makes removing easier as it simply bolts on rather than held in with the tension of the rubber. Its a pain to do on an SVX but not 3 hours worth of work.
  20. Personally I wouldn't even think of buying a low mileage used WRX. What do you think the buyer did? Take it home and baby it for its break in period when they new they were probably gonna get rid of it long before any issues popped up with it.
  21. Ummm.. You on crack or something? Open heads vs closed, simply the most reliable engine subaru ever made for high horsepower applications. It was made for only 4 years because it was a little pricey. Maybe you better check it out first
  22. Yes, in my experience with my Brat. It drove much better off road with narrow tires then the 205s I stuffed on it. Granted it depends what you're driving through but for most trail running. Narrow seems better, mud and sand would be different though.
