That nice shiney new avatar you have there. Everything Steelers I have is a Charcoal Grey and pale yellow. It is amazing how many new coats, shirts and jackets I saw this past week. They should've just left the tag on as you can always spot new steelers stuff from a mile away. So the guy can't type then huh. I was just going by most likely missed types when putting it in. Kuhmo makes a dirt/gravel tire that's fairly cheap. Tire rack sells it. If you're using 4wd I'd get 4 tires as you're drivetrain will be much happier.

My O3 has had valve noise on cold starts since new. Goes away after about a minute in 50 or so degree weather. Might also wanna look at a Legacy wagon or even a GT wagon as it'll be cheaper, handle better, ride better and stop quicker as I'm guessing that in NJ you're not in need of that extra inch of ground clearance. It isn't needed in snow either if that's what you were thinking.

Try some lucus gear oil addative. It'll help with the noise. Also be sure to get a dif from the same year and model or better yet verify the ratio before getting one as Subaru likes to change gear ratios.

Sorry, it seems you and yours aren't the market Subaru thinks they should have now. They want the $$$! Its a shame. Heck a standard Impreza is almost 20grand.

Its a dealer part. I think its around $50 depending on make or model a bit.

I'm assuming its a reman Keith and Lanc Starter and alt gives I think a 3 year warraty as opposed to a 1 year. Not a bad price though man.

Personally I would've just taken it to a local alt/starter shop for the rebuild. Can't beat locals for warranty stuff plus it would've been cheaper. Probably right around a 100.

Is it an auto or manual? If an auto definately get a tranny cooler and a gauge for the tranny temp. Also check/change the tranny fluid much more often. You're looking at towing what about a grand in weight? You should be just fine with the tranny cooler. Its the heat that causes the issues. Any temps over 200 in there starts to really break down the atf quickly.

Well I'm guessing since you wanna stay in street, then it will be street legal and be used to get to and from the events. Here's what I would recommend to start with Buy the 4 door instead it's actually about 100lbs lighter as the 2 door had structure added to pass the crash stuff. A decent set of used 200ish lbs springs (anymore and the stock struts will leak like there is no tomorrow). $50-100 on ebay. Flush the brakes with Valvoline Synth dot 4 I think it is but it is as close to racing fluid without the horrible cost. Put on speed bleeders while your at it and replace your pads with a decent performance set like Hawk. Fronts only unless you have spare change lying around for the rears. Ditch the seats (as I think you can for SP and get some Summit polyurethane racing seats or seat if you don't want a passanger. You'll have to keep your standard belt for inspection I'd suspect but get a 6 point harness to strap yourself down. $100 total for a seat and harness Replace the 1st cat with a decent flow muffler then straight back beyond that. It'll keep you legal noise wise and provide enough back flow to keep the torque up. An LSD rear is probably a waste as you'd really want the LSD front. Spend money on tires and light wheels!!! Give the car a diet- 100lbs is equal to 5hp!!! Get a rulebook and see what bolts, hangers, brackets, ac systems etc you can loose. We took about 40lbs of bolts alone off our svx! Loosing weigh below the center of gravity though isn't good so higher weight is much better! Get a professional racing alignment and corner weights with you in the car then move the battery appropriately For about $2000 or so (provided you get a $1000 Impreza) you should be fine to start with. Get yourself a rulebook after the car and keep reading the rules until you know everything about 'em. Check out Hocrest and my SVX E Prepared race car at my link below. We might have $1000 or so in it not including tires or our trailer. It weighs less than an Impreza does and in our region it took 1st and 2nd in E Prepared in 05. Not bad for a car that was a parts car in Nov of 04 and has gone through a ton of variations over that time. A word though is SP is a very tough road as you have all the tuners with a ton of money and support in it. Might want to think about going all out into the prepared catagory (provided you can have axcess to a truck and trailer). Then you can go out and get yourself into real racing (hill climbs, etc without much more work. I'm sure some will say that coilovers are better, my exhaust suggestion isn't the fastest, etc but bang for buck it should be pretty much dead on for ya. Then if you have spare money put it towards seat time (preferably competition classes or the like) as you said it best the driver is the limiting factor. Sure some cars are more competative and in reality no subaru is that good as an autox car from the get go but you'll have plenty of fun!

While its true the springs wear, I would doubt they are too worn to be reused again. Are you running the original struts and are they leaking? If so that's your biggest issue. My advice would be to put the money you were gonna on springs towards getting new mounts. You'll notice that more than a couple pounds lost on the springs... Unless you're carrying a 1000lbs around in the trunk on a regular basis. Just curious how much the struts are? I'm guessing you can get Subaru OEMs for about $100 a piece from www.newsubaru.com (their prices online are just list but liberty will sell wholesale to phone customers.)

Why on earth did you need new springs? The monroes would give a slightly less stiff ride, lets stay more like a buick which imo isn't a more comforatble ride esp on bumpy backroads.

Don't worry, you'll here Hocrest and me with the SVX race car. I think last year we took the nod for the loudest car there. You couldn't mistake the boxer 6 sound in the parts section when we were running on the autox course at the other end of the fairgrounds. This year I plan to debut the oldest fuji product on site unless someone has one older than 57-59. Granted she may not be running yet but she should be freshly painted and ready for her engine to go back in.

We already have a meet in the spring! Not so mini either. We get together at the Carlisle fairgrounds during the Import/kit car week (not the ricers but the classics). No 4 wheeling though but definately a good time. Its usually right smack in the center of May.

You'd be just fine but your odo would be off. Biggest problem I see is if the tires weren't rotated properly and don't have an acceptable small difference in circumference which is bad on an awd vehicle as the tires rotate at different speeds putting strain on the tranny. On the other hand those are some pretty wide snows. Depending on where you live and all narrower would be better so it sinks rather than floats across the top of the snow. That said if they have the same circumf. and are cheap enough start shopping for rims!

If you're willing to go further my Mechanic is in Marietta PA and is a Sub cert mechanic who goes back to the old stuff as well! Granted he hated working on my BRAT but you got the perfect one don't ya? He is VERY reasonable (about $40 an hour but most jobs are flat rate and very nicely priced).

There is Deer Lake south of Pottsville and is a Subaru only garage. On the same road as Cabelas is (I think its 61 or something like that) Hocrest is from that area as well so I'll tell him about this post. I know he's dealt with 'em in the past.

Couldn't agree more in some circumstances but for the average consumer they are pretty much dead on and put everything through the same test. Of course being scientific in their manor makes for tons of variables. Remember, according to them Old Mud is America's greatest beer! Generally speaking they are dead on and don't seem to take things such as color, appearance and coolness into consideration. Are they wrong? Sure but remember the Alliance was car of the year as was the Eagle Premier and Mercury Capri Convertable by other publications. They just provide info that they find but of course everything can be interpreted differently.

Seriously, the injectors will be on the fuel rail and will have a wire plug set up going to them. Just chase the fuel lines to either side and you're there right where they go into the manifold.
