  1. Awsome! Exactly what I was looking for in regards to the order, thank you. I will start over and bleed the master one more time; then do the wheel cylinders in the above order. Hope I get it all out this time
  2. Still trying to get all the air out What is the proper rotation for bleeding the brakes on a 1988 GL wagon ? Ive been doing rear right, rear left, front right, front left. Had to bleed the master cylinder also If I bleed the master cylinder do I then have to bleed the brake cylinders again? And finally how do you adjust the rear drums? Mine are worn down and need to be tightend up some! Thanks oh one last thing; do I need to bleed the hill holder since I bled the master cylinder? how do I do this exactly; there is a fitting on top and on bottom of the hill holder... bleed the top one?
  3. I use Purelator filters. Subaru used them for OEM filters so thats good 'nuf for me. Their PureONE filters are even nicer I also throw hard disk drive magnets on my filter. I run Castrol GTX. Only reasons was it came recomended, its fairly cheap (for name brand oil) and I've never had a reason not to like it yet. I've also ran Valvoline full synthetic in my old 472ci and had great results with that but the engine ran so hot that it actually utilized the high temp benifits of full synthetic. I dont like the idea behind those high milage oils. I watched a little promotional deal on Valvoline's high milage deal. Basicly it coated your piston rings, cylinder walls, valve guildes, valve stems (and any other high temp part of the oil system?) with this coat of crap that makes everything seal better giving you lost and forgotton compression. I just dont like the idea of coating everything in crap to achieve this objective.
  4. Yep, that phone number is worthless Called them yesterday and they have absolutly no technical support on subaru. They only support sales, warrenties, L.L Bean appearl and other pointless crap that means nothing to ppl who own older Subarus. As noted by calebz the dealerships are left the burdon of technical support. Unfortnatly in my area we have no EXCLUSIVE Subaru dealership. They are all Nissan/Hayundai/Etc/Etc/Etc/Subaru. I tell them what year and they just basicly blow me off or tell me nothing is available. None of them have records or manuals back further then first gen Legacy Anyone have a dealership number with some tech and part departments more dedicated to COMPLETE Subaru support? Would be most appriciated!
  5. Hmmm the only Diesel KiKi I have is from an EJ22 not an EA82. The one from my EA82 was something else. Only one plug was coming off the EA82 compressor. I have 2 plugs that go to the compressor on my harness but only one plugs into the actual compressor unit. I do not remember where the other black plug from the harness goes. I pulled this junk off 4 years ago Put in the compressor, hook up the belt, plug it in and find out If it enguages when you turn on the AC (you will hear the clutch in teh pulley kick in and your RPMs will drop a bit) then you are good to go. If not we will have to investigate furhter! Don't run the AC pump long at all. The coolant acts as a lubricant also so you dont want to wear out your pump. Get it recharged before using the AC pump once you get it working. Good luck
  6. I keep hearing ppl talking about adjusting the rear drums. Never done this! How do you do it exactly? thanks!
  7. If you are blowing out a bunch of smoke (you are sure its coolant and not oil or just plain water vapor?) when you do finally get it started tahts from stuff already sitting in your cyilnders. Read: water in your cylinders! Bad, very bad, especially if you have hydrolocked it like you said. That means a very significant amount of water is getting in there. Sure its not your intake manifold gaskets? Those will piss RIGHT into your cylinder heads when they leak Also check your oil and over flow tank! Check the oil for 'milk' and check the overflow tank for oil. If you are mixing the 2, as your lawyer, I would advise you to stop driving it till its fixed Hope its just the intake manifold! Peace
  8. After reading this I bet someone wants to buy one of my 2 intercoolers now? Email me if you want them!
  9. Personally I threw all that garbage right where it belongs, in the garbage can Now onto your issue. Mine had 2 plugs for sure. This is on the round compressor, not the square one. What kind of compressor do you have? I seem to recall one pluging directly into the pump and another onto a little dongle plug. I can take a closer look at mine and see whats up but if we have two different compressors its a moot point. Peace
  10. Heh kinda glad I couldnt make it now Makes doing a water pump on a '91 buick all day a breeze compared to getting stuck in Iowa for 3 days! Glad to hear its starting to come to a resolution. Where exactly do we donate to this specific cuase/event ? I'd be happy to kick some $$$ to get people their rigs home or for the bill on the road maitanace. I hope this fiasco doesnt end up being the counties excuse to finally update a minimum maitanace road at our expense. Afterall how much maitanace and repair would need to be done to a MINIMUM maitanace road? Peace
  11. Having run cherry bombs on my Subaru and thrush glasspacks on my Buick I prefer the sound and design of thrush glasspacks over cherry bombs. A few bucks more for a far better muffler. Just look down one of each. Cherry bomb looks like someone just stock a 12 guage with buck shot in there and pulled the trigger. Thrush actually designed a rifled pattern of louvers and are built tougher.
  12. Spoken like a subaru master Speaking of which when was the last time that oil pump had a new impeller? Maybe its starting to eat itself and leave metal in your oil! As stated above you also could still have metal floating around from when your lifters were shot. How about some powerful magnets (like ones inside computer hard drives) on your oil filter and a magnetic drain plug! Least you wont be circulating a lot of the particles then.
  13. That looks too cool. I dig it a lot! Nice work guys.
  14. I was gonna say you could use my 36mm and braker bar but you were already standing on your cresent wrench when I came outside lol Glad to hear you found the culprit. Maybe we can do the bearings and rear disc conversion all at the same time? I've never had to do wheel bearings on these so I could use the xperience
  15. What a horrible day My wife came home from work and said her power steering was gone and the battery light was on. I poped the hood and saw smoke and coolant all over. The one belt that runs everything (power steering, alternator, AC pump, water pump) was just laying there. She said the powersteering and light came on right when she left work. This means the water pump was not working for her entire commute home. I put the belt back on and started it up... its screwed. Wont idle, whole engine shakes and knocks real bad, smoke and coolant just pour from somewhere between the crank pulley and water pump. Needless to say I do not have time or money to finish my subaru or attend the midwest subaru rally. If it isn't one thing its 15 others... Take lots of pictures for me and have fun guys. Maybe next year?
  16. 4x140mm is the stock Subaru bolt pattern Toyota rims easily conver to Subaru pattern becuase they are 6x140mm Stock rims have lots of negative offset. I thought it was neg 50 offset? This was so the center of the tire was over the center of the hub and bearings I belive. Hopefully someone can confirm an offset value.
  17. I wouldnt be worried at all with 205's on your stock rim. Only time it will be an issue for you is if you air down and take sharp turns. With the wider tires you shouldnt need to air down. I have 10.5" wide tires on 6" rims and they are fine. That's 2"s on each side hanging out. It doesnt look awkward and they had no problems mounting or seating the bead. Have you also considerd modifying rims to fit your bolt pattern? That requirs no modification of the Subaru itself. Then you could get some 14" rims and find the tires you WANT and not have to settle for the ones you can MANAGE to find
  18. I considerd these before I had a lift. Make sure the tires are rated for the weight you will be throwing on them. Also note what speeds they are rated for Might consider a hub mod and change your bolt pattern. Find yoruself a MUCH larger selection in rims and tires depending on the pattern you choose. Even 14" rims would bump you up into Light Truck tires but I love the selection I find with 15"s. 13" rims are passenger vehicle rims and finding any sort of A/T tire will be VERY hard. You will have to look in the M/S rated tires for any sort of aggressive tread and R13 sizes. This link rules for tire size comparrison. Great way to waste some time at work http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Really lets you see the difference in say a 235/75/15 vs a 225/75/15. Good luck!
  19. Note to Dan: stop cleaning your subaru they like being durty! hehehe
  20. Good idea; tear it down and take a peek. I love tearing apart engines to find out why it died! Got a neat supprise helping Archemitis with an Isuzu Impulse RS turbo. The connecting rod looked like it had been through a meat grinder, the piston came out in several pieces and the oilpan was chuck full of aluminum shrapnel! The hole in the block is what led us to belive something was wrong in the lower end LOL
