Okay so these you adjust the dampening directly; not just the springs ?

custom ea81/82 Motor mounts, any interest?
MorganM replied to shanonsf's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If by custom you mean solid mounts I'd be interested. -
I say you go as high as you can with rims and tires. Unless you really wanna go big get a lift but if you are just looking for some bigger tires and rims I wouldnt worry about a lift. Archemitis has his hatch pretty darn tall with out a lift (expense, installation and troubleshooting that come with a kit!). Just some rims and tires can really gain you bumper height and overall clearance. There are several options to get you larger rims and therefore open the doors to better tires. With those 14" or 15" rims you can pretty much have your pick of any make and model tires. Only limiting factor then is your budget! Good luck and glad to have you on the USMB

EASY there big shooter Intake manifold could easily be leaking water into a cylinder AND be bias twoards a particular one if the leak is in the right spot. Lets start easy TRIPPLE check all bolts you have touched when you did the head gaskets. This will not fix the problem but I bet you find some loose ones and particularly on the intake manifold. If they are loose then you will need to redo those gaskets. Retorqueing a part down on already leaking gaskets does not fix the problem but can buy you enough time to fix it. After checking everything then lets talk about pulling heads

McPhearson struts pretty much are coil overs. I see the ones in that picture above have a very large bushing on the strut cap. Is that the only difference from a new OEM strut? I guess I question what buying expensive 'coil overs' will gain you over swaping in new strut assemblies (springs, cap, seat, bushings, and strut cartraiges). Doesnt KYB make some bolt on stuff for EA82? I know they do for the Legacys. Only time so far ive seen a need for custom coil overs was the guy who had his subframes welded together, a big suspension lift (where the coilovers were key), and a body lift with 30" tires. What am I missing here? Thx !_!

I honestly thought it was gonna look pretty stupid but it turned out slick; it looks nice. From your descriptoins it sounds like she handles as well as she looks! Fully custom; nice work!

Finally posting pics '79 coupe
MorganM replied to wagonpowaa's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It totaly depends on your area not what the car is raelly worth. Ive seen several Loyale and GL poopboxes go for over $1000 around here. I wouldnt pay a dime over $400 for them but they sell. Just the other day I saw a 91 Loyale 4WD 5speed. Guy was asking $1500, I luaghed and said good luck, he said he's had 3 lookers and 1 is coming back for another look. I looked at it and it was rusted out below and pretty clean otherwise. Still wouldnt pay over $400 for it but just goes to show its not what youd pay... its what someone else will. I would comment on the pictures but they arent coming up! My proxy here sucks so I'll have to try later. Peace -

What do you consider a high quality job?
MorganM replied to Danbob99's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
that's one fully custom interior; i dig it a lot! nice work! -
Prolly your problem is those rusted out reflectors. The back of your housing is the reflector. If it's all rusted up then it's not going to reflect enough light. The gasket between the lense and reflector tends to go out and let water in

Got yourself a nice little stash of subarus there -
Shopping for tires was great with my 15" steel pugs. You pretty much have your pick at any brand/model light truck, all terrain or mud terrain.

That's what I've been thinking the whole time reading these 3 pages Its the same issue between 2 different transmissions (and flywheel + clutches right?) So that clues you into something with the pedal assembly, linkages, and what ever else you touched in there for the conversion Good luck!

Hey thanks for reporting back Partsman. Maybe someone else can test out those rears that might fit? I'm pretty happy with my custom ones so far but if I loose them on the trail or something I'll prolly replace them with those SB27100 Ya I didnt really expect him to go digging around for bleeders, measuring and comparing but he was rather rude about even helping me in the slightest manor. We need more part represenatives l ike YOU!

SPFI ea82, engine sputters on R/H turns only
MorganM replied to Erik R's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have an '88 GL and it still had the old style PCV. I got mine off a Loyale SPFI. Check those out. If your snorkel and hoses are all dry rotten replace them for SURE. Vacume is so key on these little engines and even a cracked hose will cuase it to perform poorly. Let me know if you cant find what you need for a desent price. I can send you out a whole stnorkel and PCV system. Peace -
Aluminum alloy wheels do have advantages but I can tell you from experience they will be expensive and hard to repair if you dent them. I live in the twin cities MN with LOTS of automotive shops. Took me a week to find ONE that would even consider touching my bent aluminum alloy wheel. Cost me $125 for an hours work on one rim Steel rims will be easier to repair and/or replace. If you keep your tires aired up good and dont dent them youll be fine! Upto you really

Those rims are nice; I vote DO IT BTW tell your friends to quit parking their ugly chevy's so close to your subaru!

Replaced the thermostat, but another problem
MorganM replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Your secondary electric fan should we wired into the AC circut to so when you turn on your AC the fan turns on and that's a quick test to see if the fan itself is dead. They also come on at a certain temp; dunno what temp but its DARN close to boil over! I put mine on a relay with a switch in the cabin and I only need it when im going stop light to stop light or in bumper to bumper trafic. As stated above the thermo switches go out pretty often -
Finally got pics of my GL wagon!
MorganM replied to MorganM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes plenty of clearance with those meats. They are Liborator All Terrians and the size is 235/75/R15 which is a 28.9 in. diamiter and 6.9 in. of sidewall. Got them for $52/ea at Wal-Mart. -
