  1. lower end problems are the worst im with northguy on this one; part out the engine (like you said heads are good to go) and junk the short block. less money and hassel in the end. besides you can tell the wife (who I'm sure is lobbying this decision? ) that you DID get rid of 'that damn engine over there' but you still get to keep the good parts! haha
  2. id put money down at Vegas befor betting on the weather report!
  3. HEY! you cant come to a subaru meet in a big red VAN! lol Hope you guys do pull it off. I'd like to meet you all again w/o having to leave so quick this time.
  4. Thanks for the heads up. Lug nuts are good to go. Now I just gotta bleed teh brakes properly and find me a radiator hose!
  5. Wow this is awsome! Thx McBrat I got some fun goodies laying around; like Subaru tool puoches and body emblems. I should bring them and hand them out! Maybe for runner up prizes in a show & shine?
  6. That's what I figured but didnt want to assume
  7. http://www.usmb.net/repair/?CurrentDirectory=FOLDER_3f29dd8b7a4f46.89471656/&FileType=Image&File=New%20Image.JPG fire order is 1 3 2 4
  8. I'ts 1 3 2 4 Right head then left head starting front to back on each head.
  9. Repairing it will be a pain at best. I'd shoot for a replacement in this situation. You have the parts car and yes they will swap. The only differences I've seen in EA82 tanks is 4WD and 2WD and even then I belive your 88 will have the 4WD tank; I know mine did. There is a big dent for the rear diff and carrier. Compare the 2 tanks you'll see if they are different. Sealing that old tank will be almost worthless. Fuel eats through most any sealant. Using 'fuel safe' sealant will just bid you time untill more area rusts out around where yo usealed. Only true fix I've seen for fuel tanks is to get them welded and that REQUIRES it being removed and flushed. To me, anyway you cut it, you are going to need to pull the tank so you might as well replace it
  10. Final Agenda: Bleed brakes better: Tried a gravity bleed. Got some air out bot not all. What's your favoriate method? Tires: Gonna swing by Wal-Mart and get 4 new Liborater A/T tires mounted on my 15" pugz. Should be a no brainer but what's all this talk about pug lug nuts? Radiator hose: Lower hose is too long/tall with 3" lift. Any "universal" solutions? Somebody know a different model that swaps in nice? Test drive!
  11. Getting there! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15229
  12. Finally... It's offically Four Wheel Drive! Last night Archemitis and Justin helped work on my 1988 GL wagon. After obtaining the proper drive shaft (the shaft and tranny I had was from a dual rage sedan) Archemitis welded the center carrier bearing bracket to the unibody and Justin applied the water methodicly between welds. As Milesfox has noted, PLEASE remove ALL TRASH from under your seats befor welding under your car! Thankfully we had on hand a fire extingwisher (with a spare uptairs) and a bucket of water. Just a lot of smoke really. The carpet tends to just smoulder, smoke and NOT cuase flames while you weld below. Still water was required to keep it undercontrol. I was the bailing bucket boy We also got on an EA81 Y-pipe (spacers are required) This part was a key component missing from my car for too long. What a difference it makes. I never gave enough credit to the engineering of those Y-pipes untill now. They are rage'n! Anyway with more of God's good luck and a lot more work I should be driving to Iowa for the Midwest Meet. Since I have been working WAY below my budget to get this going (due to 90% of everything being an OEM swap) I'm going to get some new tires on my pug rims. The widetrack baja radials on there are far too dry rotten to put 800 miles on in 3 days; but what do you expect from paying $20 for all 4 on rims? lol A big thanks to all those who helped me; both directly and indirectly. You know who you are, and I thank you This whole project is 4 years in the making and finally coming around. Can't wait to hit the road with it Peace.
  13. 5. Extend radiator hoses I have just the oposite problem with this BYB 3" lift in my 88 GL wagon. The upper hose is tweaked a bit but works fine. Bottom hose is way to 'tall' The bends are perfect, but too much hose is inbetween so it kinks when you put it on. Slowly from each end i kept cutting a 1/2 inch or so to try and make it fit. Ended up getting it too short and it never fit right. Is there a different hose I should use? Universal one that would fit?
  14. Sounds to me like you have lost hydrolic pressure. Have you checked both ATF and Gear Oil levels? Tried replacing external filter? Have you found any drips or puddles of ATF under your vehicle? Could be any number of things but hopefully it's not the hydrolic pump Start simple. I normally dont post here but I saw you were the newest member to the USMB and wanted to check out your first post. Welcome aboard and hope we can figure this out for you!
  15. You said yourself the car is rusted out. You can MAKE 27"s fit I suggest a 3 to 5 pound BFH and a 4" grinder with cutoff wheels. Make sure you get the right cutoff wheels for your grinder as they are rated differently. Just smash and cut anything in your way Good luck
  16. Did your brat come with a front sway bar? They kinda work like OEM limiting straps If you wanna keep the travel gained w/o a sway bar might wanna look into the above idea of limiting straps on the control arms.
  17. All details will be in these 3 threads for the Midwest Meet: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11244&page=1&pp=10 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14606 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14605 There are still a couple campsites left at Loess Hills if you want to stay there with a lot of us. Sunda I belive is just gonna be a wake, shake and roll out. Post any specific quetions you may have after reading those. Hope to see you there!
  18. What a great time! Worked from 10:30 till about 6:00. Main objective completed: 4WD Dual Range transmission installed! We also got alot of other stuff done. Did about a weeks worth of work for myself in one day. Special thanks to Joe, Terry, Justin, Tony and Stephanie for coming down and helping out. Hope the beer and bbq was worth your time and effort Thanks!
  19. awsome! one less thing to reassemble this weekend thanks for the tip guys.
  20. Well suprise suprise... dude looked around for quite a while and he said 35 is EGR Selenoid Switch and it's either stuck on or off. I told him this was for an 85 XT 1.8 no turbo. He also said this could possibly cuase lean running condition. It's been my expeirence with MAF's either they work or they dont and when they dont work the car just doesnt run or runs REALLY rough but not driveable at all. This was only with hotwires however; I have no experience with flappers.
  21. First thing I'd do is confirm that code is indeed what Chiltons say's it is. Im gonna call up the dealership right now and ask about it.
