  1. I'm fixing up a 95 Impreza Coupe, 1.8 AWD 5-speed, 56k

The car has been sitting for a few years, and it starts and runs fine, but is binding like the center diff is locked... (fine when going straight, but binds when turning)

Anyone ever have this happen to one that's been setting a long time?

And if so, did it finially free up after driving it a while?

I can't imagine it's a major issue in the tranny, as with only 56k on it, and a stock EJ18 in front of it, couldn't have been abused too much...

Could be in the front diff...but feels like a center diff issue...

The rear wheels spin free with the back end jacked up (opposite direction/open diff), but I haven't checked the front ones yet.

Any thoughts or advise is welcome...;)

  2. Gary directed me here...

I installed a EG33 into my XT6, which was much more trouble than it would be to put it into a Legacy.

The mounts will bolt right into the Legacy.

Chances are the radiator and fans might be an issue but I have a 98 Legacy Outback, and I can check measurements against it to see.

    The tranny bolt right up.

I've seen the EG33 installed in a 1st gen Legacy on a Aussie site, so I know it'll fit.

The wireing on the Legacy and the EG33 are similar, but different, so it will be a bit of a issue...but that's to be expected on any engine swap.

If you have any questions, I'll try to help.

    (It makes my XT6 [FrankenWedge]a real Beast):headbang:

  3. damn that project makes me thing EZ30 in my lifted wagon. I found one at a JY wtih shattered drivers side timing chain covers... simple fix as long as it didnt bent valves....

Car looks wicked, I wanna drive it

It's definely a whole different animal than it was with the ER27 in it....:burnout: :burnout:

I actually wanted to use a EZ30, but I couldn't find one cheap enough for me.... (REALLY cheap is my price range :) )

  4. Hi Huck!

    Anything new???

    Hey Paul,

I got the oil pressure gauge working, and the water temp gauge working (a little off, but working).

Been riding my motorcycle most of the time while it nice out, so FrankenWedge, nor my SVX have seen many miles this summer, but it still starts and runs.....I drove it to church this past Sunday....still a blast to drive!, but I could use some new tires for it...

  5. I could send you a copy of the plans my father drew up. It's coordinates to mill off of, and the plate we made fit perfect. PM me with your adress

Edit: I'm in the middle of hooking up my wiring for the car, so I won't be able to do anything else for a couple of days. I've got my court date thurs morning, so I'll see about making copy's thurs afternoon.

Possibly a small fee, I'll see.

    91 Loyale,

I'd like a copy to if it isn't too much to ask, and if it's in a Cad program, you could just e-mail it to me in a DWG or DXF file.

    Thanks,

    Huck

  6. Keep your eyes out for a cheap XT-6. I'm still interested, and I've got the motor. Sounds like a fun project for 2007. Besides, my stable of weird Subarus just wouldn't be complete without it! ;) (5spd SVX, SVX nitroused racer, H-6 powered Justy, 2.0T WRX powered Coupe, 360 waiting for a WRX motor).

    Will do Paul,

There is a FWD Auto here local, no title, but could probably get for a couple hundred...but best to start out with a AWD manual

  7. Those 85 extra ponies are AT THE WHEELS! That represents about an 85% increase in power.   That's a whole lot more than a simple nitrous shot.

I drove that car before the swap. It was fast then. Huck took me for a run up the Dragon where he hung with an NSX.:slobber:

Don't even THINK you can catch that car.:burnout:

    Way to go, Huck!!:clap::banana::clap:

I'm sorry I missed you this weekend. I can't tell you how tempting it was to come up to Lexington just for the opportunity to get behind the wheel of that car. Fri. AM I was running on 2.5 hours of sleep, and I just didn't have it in me to add 6 more hours to my trip. Give me a call next time you are heading to the Dragon or south.

Hey, why don't you bring it to the GRM Challenge this year? How much you got in it? We can run against each other in a couple of Frankensubies!!:D I'll even concede my title of fastest Subie if you whoop me.

Paul, It wouldn't quailfy for the GRM, as I've had the car for a few years, and had more in it before the swap that the allotted amount...but if I had started with a cheap XT6, I'd have been in the budget.

I'm not all the way up to Lexington, I'm just about 35 minutes from the TN line, so it would have only added 4 hours to your drive yesterday:brow: ..hehe

    Oh well, maybe next time.

Frankenwedge doesn't handle quite as well as it did with the ER27 in it, I'll have to tweek the suspension somehow to help compensate for the extra weight in the front....it pushs more now (but it does come OUT of the corners a lot faster:grin: )

If I get it back down to the Dragon I'll try to give you a call.

  8. Thanks Qman,

It went i n OK, had to do a few little things to get it to work out....(still have a few things to work on), but it did make it to the Dragon Meet and back in one piece, with no issues (well, other than the throttle sticking wide open on the Dragon:eek: .....that gave a passenger a good ride:grin: )

I'll try to do a write up on the process, when I have the time, like I did on my SVX 5-Speed swap....but I'd like to get all the issues ironed out before doing the write up.

  9. If it was 4WD, it could be worth $500. Turbo heads in good shape are getting hard to find. And considering its a AT (I know your partial to them) and 2WD, I would only say $300.

Actually, I prefer MAnuals (hey, I'm the guy that did the first SVX 5-speed Swap:brow: )

I can get it for $200....so if he doesn't haul it to the Scrap yard before I get back fromthe Dragon Meet, I''ll probably get it....

  10. BINGO!!! That is exactly what I was thinking. Or at least make the hood with the same mounting points as the WRX hood scoop. In that way, all you have to do is buy a used WRX hood scoop, tighten the littlenuts on the underside down, and call it a day.

Most of the guys with EA82Ts want to integrate TMICs on them. This would just make them one step easier to make the modification. If you could do something like that in CF or FG, I'd definately be interested.

    Patrick

I think you need to add a scoop like the RS one on my XT6.....
