  1. Buy something with 200k miles. It should have the bugs worked out. Newish head gaskets and not be a problem for at least 50k miles depending. But you will get a good discount going over 200k anyway.. If you get a 1999-2004 and the engin quit, then a JDM ej20 is well under $1000 some importers will do the swap or its not too expensive or hard. Days time casual work. Less power but if you drive an EA car, you probably would be ok with that

  2. Custom gears or its not worth it. Ea trans will work with enough swapping around. If your looking for a crawler, Subaru wont do it for you, no matter how much you spend.

Japan got the DR too so they can be obtained, but shipping big things from Australia is about impossible. Very little trade between north America and there. Boxable parts that can be shipped via normal channels are no problem. You can find the console and stuff easy.. You'll be into it $2k for .19 reduction

  4. How hard is the core support held in? My 2001 Forester lower tie bar is basically hanging loose from the core support rusted in that area. The end plates are not there anymore and the lower tie bar can be twisted by hand..

I'm considering getting a JDM SF5 STI front cut and using the good core support along with everything else, since it's getting the JDM EJ205/ 5spd anyway

  5. Considering there is no known way to flash an ECU on a Subaru built before 1999, the answer would be no... ECM's swap on Subaru pretty easy as long as you match the electronics. 1996-1999 ( except 1999 EJ22's ) will all swap out to the point the car will run. But it's best to match the year so all available equipment is operational and no ghost codes are there from equipment your car did not come with
