I have a 92 Camry with the same type of setup. I leave the lights on. I have never replaced a headlight yet. If I do, its a small price to pay for the added visibility. I do the samething with my Forester and so far no bulb replacements;) Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming.....:temper: 01 Forester, jealous.........:madder:

Is your vehicle running right? A tune up always helped my mileage. I get between 225 and 245 per tank on my Hatch. Less in the winter. Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming:temper: 01 Forester, jealous....:madder:

Any of you extreme builders want a contract?
Sweet82 replied to mtsmiths's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you want a Hummerish Beach vehicle how about this? http://www.rhinobuggies.com.au/prod02.htm I'm building one out of my 82 Hatch (Bandit), Mudrat is also building the Bandit. The company customer service sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:moon: Let me repeat that The company customer service sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:moon: But the buggys are an easy building kit and make sence since they require a single donor vehicle. It was my answer to what to do with my good running rusty Hatch. '87 GL-10 Wiper/Headlight issues
Sweet82 replied to dave833's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I believe your wiring harness starts on the left side and moves forward to your left head light then to the right head light. Have you looked at the wires running between the left and the right side?:cornfuzz: I found a lot of corrosion on my right side wiring under the general battery area (go figure). Several of my wires were not playing the electrical game:mad: As for you wipers is your rear wiper fuse good? I somehow remember having trouble with my rear wiper and it effecting my front intermittant wipers. Maybe I'm up in the night? requesting ea81 ignition lock *removal* how to
Sweet82 replied to a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you have the key out and you have a good key (not broken in the ignition), you could try working the very last pin (deepest) in the lock. This should be the retaining (keeper) pin and removing this will allow the lock to come out of the cylinder. You should only need to move it around 1/16th to release it. Remove the lock slowly so pieces don't go shooting off in the distance. Even if this happens, it's not the end of the world. Insert your key in the lock once it's out to keep everything together. Once out you can use a screwdriver to turn off the ignition. With the ignition off you should be able to insert your key and carefully reinstall it in the cylinder. While its out you could look to see which pin/disk is scratched and hanging up the lock. This pin/disk can be removed along with the spring and it won't make any difference in your lock! Picks would help, but an allen wrench filed will work just fine. Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming......:temper: 01 Forester, jealous.......... :madder: -

Don't keep us waiting............... What did you find when examining your rear end......?:moon: Never mind you don't have to tell us.... Glenn, 82 Hatch, no rear (diff) at the moment:mad: 01 Forester, rear's in gear! -
I'd run the most agressive mud and snow you can find! I prefer ones with a block tread pattern. Space between tread is good! Remember the more agressive the tread the more noise on the street and the sooner they'll wear out:mad: It's a tradeoff . I ran the original factory tires up to my current set, they seemed to do real good anywhere I wanted to go. Too bad They can't be found anymore... Clicking noise in reverse...
Sweet82 replied to CPTFrench's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My 82 used to make a slow click/knock as I backed up. Turns out it was my brakes knocking a bit only when I backed up. Talked with a brake place and they said its somewhat normal as brakes wear and unless the pads were worn out, not to worry about it. Maybe this is what your experiencing? Jack it up! I have only seen a few factory push bars ever....and what good are those? Plastic? Push Bar? That's going to look good the first time something touches it. I want a real bar....like SubaXtreme offers. Why doesn't someone bend some and sell them? Mudrat, you listening? Glenn 82 Hatch, transforming....:temper: ---Yes Mudrat it's a Bandit! 01 Forester, jealous:madder:

Hill holder clutch lockup
Sweet82 replied to jelly man's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The hill holder is under the hood, follow the cable in back of the clutch cable and it will lead you to the brake master cylinder. Where the cable meets the master cylinder is the hill holder mech. It has a spring to retract it when the clutch cable is released. I think the "mess of brake lines" in the rear is really fuel lines leading to the evaporator box from the charcoal filter. These lines zig zag endlessly back and forth under the car for some reason. The brake lines are fairly straight forward. The hill holder will just get in your way!!!!!!!!!! off-road. You have salt crystals forming on your car evey couple of days in the winter season:madder: We export train loads of salt out of here.... Cars have no chance here:boohoo: Whine, whine, whine... Hill holder clutch lockup
Sweet82 replied to jelly man's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My hill holder broke years ago and I have never fixed it (and never regretted it) The brake can be dangerous off road; If your climbing a hill and push in your clutch to roll back a bit, you will find your brakes locked up and you may be in an uncontrolable slide backwards with your brakes locked!!!!!!!! You won't be able to control the vehicle until you put the vehicle in neutral and release the clutch!!!!!!!!!!!! If you really find necessary to have it working try making your spring that retracts the H/H clutch tighter. We Utahns need to get together for an excursion! cleaning cigarette smoke stains from ceiling?
Sweet82 replied to AKIRA's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If your ceiling is that gross, I'd think your upolstery would be a prime candidate for smoke inhilation too! I'd suggest a 1/4 stick of dynamite in a bottle of simple green. Light the fuse and close the door. Hose out the interior with an ordinary garden hose and your problem will be solved:D Oh! pull out the rubber drain plugs in the floor pan so it will drain properly:bday: Good luck, Glenn 82 Hatch, ...transforming:temper: 01 Forester,...jealous:madder: -
On an 82 the center (driving ) light will only operate with the high beams. Page 16 of the owners manuel confirms this. Your switch should light up and the dash will indicate "center lamp". For what it's worth, Glenn 82 Hatch, .....transforming:temper: 01 Forester...Jealous........:madder:

Looking for someone who has some insite on how to adjust the steering linkage to fit right once the vehicle is lifted. Background; Those of you who have a lifted Subie know that once you lift the vehicle the steering does not want to connect the same as it was. I'm building a buggy out of my 82 Hatch. I'm finding that my steering shaft is now running right through my pedals where as it used to be up higher and out of the way. What I need to do is lengthen the lower spline somehow and shorten the steering column shaft. This will allow a higher routing of my steering away from my feet and pedals. Anyone else dealt with this concept? :cornfuzz: What did you do? Thanks, Glenn 82 Hatch, transforming...:temper: 01 Forester, jealous....:madder:

I looked at my pin last night, my pin is worn so bad, I worried it may wear in half. So that's where my clutch slop has come from???? There should be a pressure clip type washer locking the pin on. For what it's worth, Glenn 82 Hatch, transforming...:temper: 01 Forester, jealous........:madder:

Dash's are a B**** to get out!!!!!!!!! They crack, they don't behave, they have hidden screws that will not go back together without tons of work!!!!!!! Remove all your lower plastic and glove box area and see if you can make it work without removing the upper dash!!!!!!!!!!! It's a P.I.T.A! I ended up using a Sawzall to get the hidden screws out:D But my dash didn't have to go back in...... :D For what it's worth, Glenn 82 Hatch, transforming....:temper: 01 Forester, jealous........:madder:
