how to replace axle on my GL¿¿¿ HELP
Not exactly sure which thingy you broke, but if it's in the rear of your car you can pound out the retaining pin on each end of your CV axle and drop the diff (3 bolts). This will allow you to remove your CV and put in another. Simple. Guys on the board say you can do it in 10 minutes:D Hope that helps. SLOW Down! Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be......:temper: 01 Forester, still is..................

Newbie advice... Sorry!
Sweet82 replied to BryanK's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWelcome, Remember you'll hear more of the problems in this type of format and not necessarly all the positive. It's just the way these forums work. I have a newer used Forester and I love it, I'm not worried a bit about the head gasket. I'd have a qualifed mechanic look it over, it would be worth knowing what a professional says. Seems as though it would pay off the first time you had a problem (or avoided one per/your mechanic). For what it's worth, Glenn 82 Hatch, transforming.......:temper: 01 Forester, jealous...........:madder:

Only a quart and a half low after all that time............. Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be.........:temper: 01 Forester, still is...........

What was the last carbed car sold in us?
While were off the topic, I have two Troopers, both have 4 cyl. injection. They would be 1988 and 1991. They don't have anything that resembles a carb. I think only the 6 cyl had anything resembling a carb. For what it's worth, Glenn, Too many cars.....

Suspension travel?
I don't have a drive line or axles in at the moment. I don't want to put my axles back in just for this travel issue? I was hoping someone would just know what the travel was with out having to install the axle. I am planning on having the diff/hanger bar at about a 6 degree forward slope. Does the diff have to be level? I can build the hanger to any position. Thanks, Glenn 82 Hatch, well sort of....... 01 Forester!

Wet floor in hard rain
Is water coming out of the heater? then to the floor? It doesn't smell like antifreeze does it? My problem was large rusted holes in the floor at the front of the outboard foot wells. This seems to be a problem area with Subies. I'd peak underneath and see if that is the water source?:cornfuzz: Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it use to be...... 01 Forester!

Suspension travel?
I don't have any shocks on now so nothing is limiting my downward travel for measuring. However once up and running, If I need to put a limiting strap on, I can do that but I just figured, I'd get a shock longer than what the travel would be so I wouldn't pull my shocks apart. The problem I'm up against is compression of the shock, if I jack up one rear wheel the other side just lifts up. The Buggy is too light to compress it's own suspension. I can lift it with one hand:eek: I then tried jacking up a front wheel to force the opposite rear down. I came up with around a 6" compression but I don't know if this is the maximum allowable travel?:cornfuzz: Another problem I'm worried about is if it finishes out real light a standard shock may be too stiff for such a light buggy? Still looking for suggestions, Glenn 82 Hatch? well sort of... 01 Forester!

26-27 tires
I'm thinking these look good for off-road traction? http://www.tnttires.com/cgi-bin/plugins/MivaEmpresas/miva?plugins/MivaMerchants/merchant.mvc+Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=OL They are available in a 26"? I'm considering running those or http://www.tnttires.com/cgi-bin/plugins/MivaEmpresas/miva?plugins/MivaMerchants/merchant.mvc+Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=ITP589 You probably want something more tame....... Oh well, Glenn, 82 Hatch, wants serious off-road tires.... 01 Forester, ......jealous.............. :madder:

Suspension travel?
The Buggy is getting to the point of needing rear shocks. I'm ready to fabricate the shock mounts.........but........ I need to know how much suspension travel that a stock EA81 Hatch rear end... :moon: is capable of? Whats anyone running in the shock department? Thanks, Glenn, 82 Hatch, wasn't ready for Moab last weekend and had to stay home 01 Forester, went to Moab earlier this year.

Subaru B9 Scrambler
Sweet82 replied to Flo4Legacy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSeems to me Subaru is trying to get in on the Z3 market. I don't forsee any of those eggs invading this country anytime soon. Fortunately, My two cents.

Its finally finished, and it looks SWEEEEEEET!
Brian, You need one of those bumper/dashboard stickers that says; "Warning, this vehicle not recommended for small children, heart patients or pregnent women." You gave them fair warning......... Glenn, 82 Hatch, will have sticker......handles and wires inside the tube frame:temper: 01 Forester, won't have sticker.

New to this board
Welcome, Sounds like you have isolated your prob to the carb area but....... Have you done a basic tune up yet? Cap, rotor, plugs and wires work miracles with my old Subie? I have always maintained a cap and rotor will cure anything. Might be a great starting point.... Brats are great cars/trucks.....crucks? Who would have thought: Mickey Mouse Drives a Subaru 360 Cop Car!!
Don't be fooled by its mild manored appearance! That baby will fly! It's been specially modified for just such law breakers as you! Note the machine guns disguised as turn signals. It is what is left of an early, failed, Subaru attempt to obtain lucrative government contracts in the law enforcement field. Most were picked up by collectors and the rest were destroyed. Anybody want to buy some swamp land in Florida?

Lurching with a/c
Sweet82 replied to rcrooker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen it's cool I never use the A/C. Only when it's over 95 do I even use the A/C. And I haven't had the car long enough to use the Heater/defroster. So all my experience is Hot weather related.:madder: Like everyone else, I'd bet it's the compressor. It seems the have gone away now the weather is cooler(less A/C use?). Seems to me it was most noticable under 40 but would still be present at freeway speeds. I would call it a hesitation/hickup. Seems like it didn't want to accelearate with out complaining and at a constant throttle it seemed ok. Hummm? Glenn 82 Hatch, 4/60 A/C 01 Forester, real A/C

Forester mileage??????
Sweet82 replied to Sweet82's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTrue! 85 octane is standard gas here. The funny thing is nothing pings? They must tune the cars for the 5k elevation? I can do 85mph UP Parleys Canyon with 4 people and a load @ 3/4 throttle! These things have power! My 82 will only do 55 over the pass. I hope to do 90mph over the pass just to see if it is possible? Probably won't help milage any though? Maybe I should try the mid-grade gas? For what it's worth, Glenn, 82 Hatch, transforming.....:temper: 01 Forester, jealous but powerful..

Rust repair: Realistic, or go Subaru hunting?
I have had all the same problems, including 8" holes in my floor. The only difference is, I spent time over the years battleing rust on the body panels. The body panels can be fixed. The bellypan or frame rails can't be fixed (for a reasonable price). My Sub had a little over a 100k on it. The engine and drivetrain were in great shape too. I decided it was time to take it off-road (permanantly) because of safety issues associated with the lack of structure on the underside. Make it into a highly modified off-road Subaru!
