SnoBaru!
Got my first chance to drive my Forester in the Snow Yesterday:banana: What a great Snowmobile. Went through powder and crust a little over a foot deep and it didn't even slip. Just left a line in the snow shaped like my undercarrage! I used it to pack a trail for use as the winter progresses so lesser vehicles will have a path to follow, such as the Honda CRV I passed, stuck on the side of the road. My only regret is no D/R tranny. A low range would have made the initial trail braking easier to do at lower speeds. Looking forward to a snowy winter with my new snowmobile. Glenn 82 Hatch, wants to go play in the snow now.... 01 Forester, loves the snow!

2000 outback keyless horn...help
Sweet82 replied to tke148's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWelcome to the Board:bday: Mine does the same thing, I love locking it as people walk by:brow: (I know it's wrong) This has been brought up before but I have never heard of anyone eliminating the honk! A dealer might shed some light on this subject. If you find out how, tell us. Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it use to be...............:temper: 01 Forester, still looks like a Forester..

thumping from rear at low speed
I had a similar noise too, Took it to the Brake folks and they said the brakes can knock a bit as the wear in and it's not uncomon for a knock. But it should go away when you apply the brakes. Having said that I'm on board with the Lug Nut conspiracy Theory:cool:

Its official the GL is "Salvage" now
What a great scam! How many times can you do this?:cornfuzz: This should pay for a Bumper, tires and a Lift:banana: Wish someone would hit me :boohoo:

Stereo sound bland. Tweeter kit improves?
Sweet82 replied to DMc-DE's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy Forester has the same problem. It sounds bland.................... My Camry had the same problem. I put a good Kenwood in it with out changing any of the speakers and it now sounds great. I was going to try this with the Forester. My theory is the speakers are just not being pushed enough by the factory stereos. I'm going to start with the stereo first then head to the speakers if it still sounds bland....... Still looking for a good unit......... my .02 Glenn 82 Hatch, no stereo anymore....... 01 Forester, lousy factory stereo.......

New 03 Forester owner
Sweet82 replied to zooma37's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI purchased my 82 Hatch back in ...........................82! I STILL HAVE IT! IT'S A GREAT CAR! See my picks in reader rides My 82 is what inspired me to purchase another Subaru earlier this year. I purchased a Forester. If it is half as reliable as my GL, I'll be happy as a (well never mind). My .02 Glenn 82 Hatch, transforming...........:temper: 01 Forester, jealous.............

new to USMB
Welcome to the board! My favorite spot is the older generation forum, Shuuuuu! (these people are nuts!...... Don't tell them I told you.) The newer Subaru forum may have answers to your Subie Questions and they're not quite as whacky. Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it use to be.....:temper: 01 Forester, still is.............

15x6 and 15x7 4x140s for $60 to $70 each.
Stockton Quoted me $90/ for a 12" X 8.5" with a 4X140 pattern. Ouch! We need to band together and get one company to make them and get a better rate. Trudesign Wheel Inc. in Colorado Quoted me less on the same wheel (powder coated). For what it's worth, Glenn 82 Hatch, well it use to be......:temper: 01 Forester, still is.............

Dealer emblems on car
Sweet82 replied to DMc-DE's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have the same thing! Why are the holes not spaced right for license plates in the first place? This would have eliminated this ugly problem. I never run a front plate! Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it use to be.... 01 Forester, with ugly screw holes in the bumper........

Yet another Rhino update!
The Bandit was a copy of the Scorpion. The Auzzies admitted this privately. The Bandit rear end is ugly :moon: I did some modifications on the side and rear, they were copied off the Scorpion MKII. The lights were positioned just as the Scorpion pics show. I'm guessing the finished buggy will weigh around #1400 the kit says (1275). I can move the rear end with one hand. A burly buddy can move the front end with the motor. I'll weigh it once I get it mobile and give the specks. SubaruJunkie got me some space to post pics. I'll work on a timelapse photo series on the creation. Glenn, 82 Hatch?.......well it use to be........:temper: 01 Forester, ......still is........

Yet another Rhino update!
Spent the entire day preping and painting the Subuggy. (metalic charcoal black)(yes Miles, it's Krylon). Here is the buggy as of Tuesday 5:00pm. It is now in the Final Assembly Stage! By the time I went to bed it had a motor, tranny, wheels, rear suspension, gas tank... Getting more'er closer to done'er all the time! Utah Users Unite!
Who on the board is from Utah? or nearby? or used to be? I have only seen ONE highly modified off-road Subaru here. yet there are three new Soobs at every intersection. Did we all rust? or Do we just not care? We must get to the bottom of this:moon: If Urine Utah chime in Glenn, 82 Hatch, ....well it used to be........:temper: 01 Forester,..........still is............

Ditch The Hill Holder?
Always get rid of hill holders! Off road they are dangerous as you can't roll backwards. This is a problem if you need to roll back down a steep hill. Your brakes will be locked until you release the clutch, but you have to be in neutral to do this if your rolling backwards. They are evil..........except on road! Rhino 4 seater conversion.............. I modified the website pictures not the plans and built accordingly. I have no documentation on my modifications but I can tell you what they were; 4 seats, 8" lower hood, rock sliders, "V" internal roll bar support, dual rear roll bars. See the see the doctor'd pic. For the 4 seater, I ended up lengthening the center "Cab" space frame area by 6? inches (I can get you a measurement). I felt this would give me enough foot room to put two seats in the back area. ( no seats back there yet though, looking for a samurai or CJ rear seat). Head height will be your problem with the seats in the back end. Heads will stick up above the roll bar! I lowered the gas tank back to it's orignal Subaru location (still have a 71 degree angle of departure:D ) This allowed me to lower the seat height 9" but that's still not enough:cornfuzz: I ended up putting a safari rack on top and continuing the rack into the roof line to the rear of the buggy. I call it the XTERRA look. This gave me the head room I needed for the rear passengers. I'd call it a 2+2 rather than a true 4 seater as the back won't be First Class Seating. Hey it's a buggy! Build one and we'll meet in Moab for some real 4WDing. Let me know which kit your looking at, Glenn 82 Hatch?, ......well it used to be........... :temper: 01 Forester, .........still is............

Stud stuff!
Anyone know what size, thread pitch, length studs EA81's run? Do Soobs run a standard conical lug nut? or is it a non standard angle? One last question, what is the pilot hole distance on an EA81 rim? I know it's between 3 5/8 and 3 3/4, I'm looking for the mm distance? Thanks, Studs! Tires........something new?
Searched by application and nothing agressive is manufactured in a 13" tire, no 13" tractor tires.:boohoo: The biggest ATV tires are only 12" but no ATV rims will fit. No 12" Brat rims:boohoo: Rhino used "Aggricultural Blanks" not DOT rims. Aggricultural blanks will not hold a tire on as well as a DOT rim. However unless someone comes up with something I may be using them. I'm not keen on cutting centers out and welding in blanks:brolleye: (My welding skills are not the greatest) Was hoping someone out there would have a shop/business that would able to do it right.........:cornfuzz: Just found Blanks for $18 in Kansas. Down to $75/rim now, I have found a second company to build them. I'd consider a 14" 26" tire however a 12 will give me more width and distance between rock and rim......??? What 14" tire you talking about?:cornfuzz: 14" rims would not be as much of a problem$ Thanks, Glenn 82 Hatch, well it used to be............:temper: 01 Forester, still looks like a Forester.......

Tires........something new?
Let me clear things up a bit........ This is for The Subuggy EA81 ( I ain't got no wheel wells or fenders to worry about anymore ) (Hang on ... Parts will be available soon....) These tires would only be used on slow, off road applications- I'll keep my stock ones for illegal on road adventures. Stock Justys would be too narrow. If they bolt I guess I could weld 2 Justy rims together for some real width? Dualles? Or have 4 Justys widened? Searching for options here........ I'm looking for a 12" rim 8" to 10" wide. I need around a 2.5" offset not mess with the brakes.... No existing ATV rim has the width or offset in that bolt pattern:madder: ATV's have a 4X140 on the front only and with the wrong offset I'm thinking custom made$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :banghead: Help:boohoo: Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be....:temper: 01 Forester, still is..........

Tires........something new?
I'm going to run ATV tires on my Sub! (26 X 12 X 12) Anyone done this? Anyone know anyone who can manufacture this rim? To do this I need to fit a 12" rim on my old Subie. If necessary I can get the blanks (rims). $23-28 depending on width. Been quoted $90/rim from Stockton Rim. Wanna do this for less:eek: To do this I need to fit a 12" rim on my old Subie. Any Help? Suggestions? Insults?:cornfuzz: Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be.......:temper: 01 Forester, still is................

Rhino Buggies experiences???
Toby, Built it from the plans. Pretty hard to screw up, even for an ametuer like me. The Right hand steering to Left is not as strait forward as you would think. Now mine is done I may be able to figure some adjustments for the pedal area V.S. the tranny tunnel. (works for the Auzzies but not US). I looked at a Harbor Freight Tubing Bender but was told it was a Tubing Kinker.:madder: I ended up paying a buddy at http://www.rocklogic4x4.com/ to do the actual bending. Renting a real one would also work.:cornfuzz: Bends are not difficult and I did them more intricate than the plans called for for cosmetic reasons. (My roll Bar is from one piece of tubing rather than changing from square to round near the windshield.) I maintain if you were to take off work, you could build the main chassis in a week! It's not bad at all. I did all cuts and angles with my lowley angle grinder:banghead: All the Subie Rhino's are based off the same basic platform, the outer tubing is the only difference. I rearranged the rear to look more like a scorpion. My old Subie did good on sand and stuff. I think with a #1000 pound weight reduction and tires a foot wide it should go where you point it. Glenn, 82 Hatch, well sort of..........:temper: 01 Forester, still is...........

Good, Cheap CB sugestions?
We use Motorola Talk-abouts to go vehicle to vehicle when out Jeeping. Not everyone has CB's but a couple pairs of Talk-abouts will keep the group together.:argue: We also usually have an AT&T Cell and they will work most places......... I'll be using an old GE CB in the Buggy. For what it's worth, Glenn 82 Hatch, well it use to be........ :temper: 01 Forester, still is.............
