Little Roo is speeding north bound in southern Utah as we speak. Talked with Mudrat about an hour ago. Little Roo is having some difficulty adjusting to the altitude and the grades, so the journey will be a little slower than expected. Roo should arrive in Salt Lake around Noon. Looking forward to introducing Little Roo to Summer! I know they are going to talk about Moab plans! Thats the latest on Little Roo's Big Adventure. Glenn 82 Summer, with really wide rims! 01 Forester, with factory rims:boohoo:

Didn't supply anything they manufactured them from scratch! They are a little tight up front. I think I told them to make the pilot whole 90mm. Maybe I should have had it made 91mm to account for the thickness of the paint. They are tight on the pilot hole not on the lug holes. Not a major problem. The metal is thick on the back plate, I'm not sure I can get the Subaru Hub cap to stay in:mad: Man they are wide! Glenn, 82 Summer, wants tires now:temper: 01 Forester, even more jealous now

If your dealer is like my dealer they will check EVERYTHING! I thought my car was in good shape till I took it to the dealer. They gave me a list a mile long.......... And they only wanted a million dollars to fix the "Problems?". My guess is if you took it to a dealer they will find EVERYTHING! MY .02 Glenn 82 Hatch, almost finished 01 Forester, finished!

I had them made at TRUDESIGN Inc. in Colorado. Of all the folks I talked with they seemed to know the most about manufacturing a custom rim. They were $80/. As for tire choices, I am able to run any larger ATV tire. I'm thinking on a 26X12X12 as that would be the closest to my current gearing. However they make anything from a 25X12X12 to a 28X12X12, so anything is possible?.........I may go 28's? I'm planning on purchasing tires this weekend. I'll know more Monday! I don't think the weight will be a factor as long as I run something better than a 2ply tire. I'm only considering a 6ply. The Auzzies have been doing this with 4plys for some time now with much success so I figure it should all work. The "SUMMER" should weigh in at around #1300 to #1500 pounds. Glenn, 82 Summer, nearly complete 01 Forester, done!

I ordered one of those #2000 ones from Harbor freight for $49. I'm hoping to get at least two uses out of it before it brakes. But for the price/size/weight, I couldn't pass it up. http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7755&highlight=harbor+freight Glenn 82 Summer 01 Forester

Just got ahold of these rims. I have never seen any like them ever? These must be rare! The lug pattern is 4X140 and the style is similar to a Hummer?:cornfuzz: They are about 9 inches wide:eek: The offset seems to be correct for a Subaru. I put one on and it fit fine........didn't hit or come close to anything. They are aparently 12" rims with the DOT safety bead hump so they are street legal........... Ok, I had them made! click here Glenn, 82 Summer:temper: 01 Forester, Jealous:madder:

Jack and other on-board tool/part recommendations
Sweet82 replied to Dante's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Besides what you have, I keep a saw, coat hanger, army shovel, a tow strap and a come-along with a big stake, when I wheel. Leather gloves and a water container, first aid kit, cell phone/CB are helpful too! (SHUUUUUUU!..............lockpicks are great too) For what its worth, Glenn, 82 Hatch, with all of the above. 01 Forester, with some of the above. -
So the little round bushing that the shifter sticks in is still a stocked part? And it's only a few bucks? Thanks for the info..........I'll be making a stop on the way home:D Glenn, 82 Summer, (SubaruHummer) with broken ****er bushing........ 01 Forester, nothing broken............

I'm at lunch today, enjoying the Taco Bell $1.98 combo and I see a clean 1984? White Hatch (quad headlights and honeycomb grill) and it's got a mural painted on the door? I couldn't believe it. WHY would anyone paint a Beach Scene on a pristine Subie? I don't get it! What a waste. Didn't we get past that in the 70's? with the Vans?:moon: I'll shut-up before I offend someone. :argue: I just had to vent. Glenn 82 Hatch, FACTORY PIN STRIPES ONLY! 01 Forester, WHITE PAINT ONLY!

What did the wagon go for? Does anyone still have the link? I hope it got a good home.......:cornfuzz: Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it use to be.....:temper: 01 Forester, still is..........

Wow no rust. A little body work and it's as good as new. Show us pics as the restoration progresses.

Mark, I'm jealous,:boohoo: what a fun project/s. Your lucky, you have room for such treasures. I have the Hatch and the "Summer" filling up my garage and everything else is clogging my driveway. Do you still want the Hatch deck cover? PM or Email me if you do. :argue: and we'll figure out how to get it there. Glenn 82 Hatch, now the Subaru Hummer....... 01 Forester, now the 01 Forester........

Thanks, I emailed you. Wonder if we could archive the wiring diagram??????????? I never checked to see if it was already archived:eek: Thanks again, Glenn 82 Summer, no electrical system yet........ 01 Forester, electric everything............

harbor Freight sale on winches
Sweet82 replied to subarubrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The 2000# ones are back-ordered till late December. I ordered one......... We'll see how the quality is.........:cornfuzz: Seems to me it could only help in a self rescue situation and couldn't hurt in any other situation. With other people you have other means to move stuck vehicles. "The Summer" (SubaruHummer) should weigh in at 1300# to 1500# so I figure this feminine winch should be more than I need? (provided it actually works) We'll see......... Glenn, 82 Summer.......:temper: 01 Forester....... -
How tight should the pitch stopper be? (EA81) I found the engine end (of the pitch stopper) has a little play (probably from corroded rubber gromets?). 1/8 to 1/16th play. I tried to tighten the engine end but it wouldn't tighten? Is there a metal sleeve in the center of the rubber gromet on the engine end? Anyone know how this should be when adjusted properly? Thanks, Glenn 82 Summer (SubaruHummer) 01 Forester

Summer is almost here! (SubaruHummer) Looking for recommendations on gear oil to refill the tranny & rear diff? I never seperated the motor and tranny during the transformation so there is some old oil still in the tranny. However most of it is on my garage floor now. Do I need to get ALL the old oil out? (it's 1982 factory oil, I never filled or changed it) :-\ Glenn, 82 Summer:D 01 Forester, Loves Winter!

No start + hit starter = start. Why?
Sweet82 replied to jdub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
or............just get a bigger HAMMER! -
My only complaint with my Forester is the mileage (kilometerage?). I did a survey a while back and found people getting between 21 and 27 mpg on average depending on where the were and how the were driving. I got 21 and 24 on a recent road trip in my Forester. Never been over 25mpg:mad: It's a great car and you have to accept the mileage:banghead: For what it's worth, Glenn 82 Hatch, transforming....:temper: 01 Forester, jealous.......:madder:

My old EA81 Hatch has been to 74 mph! In 21 years that is the highest recorded speed (never been to 75). Unless my wife secretly took it ricing---I mean racing. It's just geared too low. (and I like it) It works too hard at "high" speeds. Glenn, 82 Hatch,...slow ride...... 01 Forester, ....fast ride.....

They screwed up on both filters!:madder: The front is missing the port that goes out the bottom:madder: The rear is ported opposite of what it should be so upside down is the only way the hoses will reach. Update! I cracked open the old filter. It could easily trap air when mounted upside down. In fact there would be no way to chase the air out. It seems to me that if it filled and drained at the bottom.....debris and sludge could pile up in the bottom clogging the filter. Working the proper orientation all the junk in the fuel would drop to the bottom bowl and not affect filling or emptying. Pepboys will see both filters again!:argue: Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it started life as one..... 01 Forester, still is..........
-
Does anyone know if it matters it a fuel filter (rear) is mounted upside down? EA81 Hatch. Pepboys sold me one with the ports reversed. The only way to get it to fit on the existing fuel lines correctly, is to mount it upside down. I've never cracked one open. Would it still work upside down or would it trap air etc......as it would fill and drain at the bottom, rather than the top as it was designed?:cornfuzz: Anyone done this? (the one they sold me for the front was the same as the rear. The front one needs one extra outlet on the bottom:madder: ) Don't they have anything that fits correctly?:moon: Glenn, 82 Hatch, W/O fuel filters....... 01 Forester, W/fuel filters......
