  1. I guess brakes too! Jacking up the car is the best shot. Out side shot but what about a rock in your tread? or a skid or blemish in your tire? This could telegraph a noise through your sub. Check your brakes! Glenn 82 Hatch, wired! 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  2. I'm with everyone else, It's not stock and it's an alarm or lights! Wires should be easy to follow because they're probably not in the harness. My car had the same thing in the same place----Lights! Good luck, 82 Summer, almost wired:D 01 Forester, factory driving lights. :-p
  3. Some 15 years ago my handle spilt:eek: I used CA glue (crazy glue) and it has worked fine ever since:D I didn't think it would hold but it has!!!!!! Glenn, 82 Hatch, CA'd knob up for grabs! Summer has hood pins. 01 Forester, Bent but not broken!
  4. And all this time I thought it was the thing that lifted the car when your trying to remove the motor with a cherry picker:eek:
  5. I'll give DMV a call and find out what I need to be street legal. There are some probs associated with it though.... State Inspection, emissions certificates, registration, insurance..... It's worth the hassle if it would allow me to drive or tow it on the highways. I'll let you know what I find out......... Glenn, 82 Summer, now with blinkers and park lights! 01 Forester, still with blinkers and park lights!
  6. Just as you thought its functionally a "top" motor mount. It's going to eliminate the pitching of the motor/transaxle. I had the same question when I was building the buggy. After posting some questions, I ended up welding one in. There are tons-o-threads on this. My recomendation,...........smash it flat and hook it up! Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it started out that way.... 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  7. If your going to have this vehicle be your daily driver a divorced T-case would not be a great idea. If your going to put on 26-28 it will work as a daily driver but your going give up your gearing. Calebz right on the stock tire size. Do I smell clutch? I'm doing a 26" but I have a #1000 weight reduction, so I may have a net effective ratio similar to what stock was. I hope:confused: There are no easy solutions or we would all be doing it. You need to access your needs and see what going to work the best. Good luck, Glenn 82 Summer, almost wired........... 01 Forester, bent but not broken
  8. Thanks Miles, That's opposite of how I remember it but it make sence color wise. Where do the two (Yellow & Black) wires going to the harness go? Glenn, 82 Hatch, more wireder now........ 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  9. I was just hooking up the wiring harness on the buggy and ripped off a tag, I had put on harness wires leading to the coil I need help with the wires! There were five wires connected to the coil originally. On the coil right now,(these were never removed when I pulled the motor) I have 2 black wires on the + side going to a capacitor and the dark recesses of the motor. On the - side I have a yellow wire going to the motor also. I know these are correct. Stupid Question? The two wires that are attached to the main wiring harness are yellow and black. I now need to connect these. Which goes to + or - ? I remember the harness yellow going to the + (with the the two black wires going to the motor)? That would leave the harness black wire going to the - side of the coil with the existing yellow wire? Mixing the black and yellow on different terminals seems wrong but that's how I remember it? Anyone know 82 Hatch coil wire colors? Can anyone confirm this configuration? Thanks, Glenn 82 Hatch, almost wired!............... 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  10. Rooinator, Your car is great! It was totally amusing running to the Junk Yard in your rig. 100% of the people stared at Mudrat and I. People around here ain't use to that kinda vehicle. After all, besides yours that little yellow hatch is the only Modified Subaru I have seen in Utah. Think of Moab as a Moral Imperative for your Subaru! Even with insanity as a co-pilot I'm afraid there are trails that are un-Subaruable in certain directions. You can go down 5 foot cliffs but not up! By the way, I have some 5 footer in-mind, I think we should try:rolleyes: Any plans for a winch? I'm building one in the buggy (may put it on a receiver to be moveable to front, rear, and sides?). Someone in the crowd needs to have a winch for Moab. Unforutnately Summer will also be a "Trailer Queen". I have no chance of getting it registered on road. I also have no trailer capable of hauling the beast very far. After that I still have no tow rig for it. Getting around will be a problem for me.
  11. Hatchet, Would have been a nice weekend for the west desert. Good to know the snow is finally starting to melt. I stayed around and wired the Buggy. The harness is in and 90% connected. What areas have you been to/prefer/recommend? I think the inititial shake down run for Summer will be out there somewhere. That little yellow hatch used to be green? The thing looked like it had been painted with a roller when I saw it? I'll p.m. EZAP and see if he sold it to a guy in Utah? Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be.......... 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  12. Welcome to the board! Love the pics! They sure make a strong statement about Subaru's suspension travel or lack there of. Your trailer hitch concernes me a bit. Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be....... 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  13. Hatchet, Summer my SubaruHummer, will be garaged in the Heber area when I finish it. I plan on using it primarily in the mountains east of Heber! We should plan a desert trip while the mountains are snowed in. We may have enough folks to do a trip. Find that Yellow Modified Hatch! I've seen him too! He was on the back side of Utah lake last spring near Nutty Putty cave. He was my inspiration for finding this board and doing something with my Hatch. We need to get him on BOARD, so's to speak. Glenn, 82 Summer, almost wired........ 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  14. Ironhorse, DL is stripped DL has the 1600cc motor GL is loaded GL will have the 1800cc motor. Check the brochure section on the board here and you'll see, different headlights, trim packages... brochure section is great. I've been casually looking through the "thrifties" in the paper. I have been considering picking up a spare Subie to Make into a monster or use a mobile source of spare parts. I wouldn't pay much over $400 for an early 80's Subie. Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be...... 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  15. Great pic, Thats exactly what I was looking for. It ain't gonna completly cover the dent area. But I think I'll put one on anyway. Thanks, Glenn 82 Hatch, well it used to be........ 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  16. I bought my car in 1983. It wasn't cheap back then. I initially purchased my Subaru because it did everything I wanted a car to do. It looked good. It got good mileage. It had 4WD. It was bigger than my 78 Civic. Since that time and for the last 21 years it has, Been reliable, Never really had to fix anything, (one junkyard part on my car) Still runs as strong as it ever did, In it's next life as a SubaruHummer, I expect it to continue on like it has in the past. This is why I purchased another Subaru to replace it:D Glenn, 82 Hatch, almost wired.......... 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  17. The last one I built used a timing chip to flash the LED. Now you can pick up the flashing LED at Radio Shack. Add a battery holder and your done. (batteries not included) Still kinda hard to beat the allelectronics one for a buck!
  18. They're not spending their time with keys. They're pulling out your window as suggested above:mad: Old Subarus are just too easy. Don't keep anything of value in it and leave it unlocked! A blinking light can be made for under $5.
  19. As everyone knows, I've been whinning about my Forester getting smashed by a #$%^ tree. I'm thinking on putting a spoiler over the section that got dented. What I need to know is if the spoiler actually covers the portion of the tail gate that got dented? Dent pic Will a spoiler cover this area? It will be fixed professionally either way but I may choose to have just that area fixed rather than tearing down and repainting the whole hatch then reassembleing it thus saving me enough money to put a cool spoiler over a less extensive repair. Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be..... 01 Forester, bent but not broken! :bday:Happy 600 post to me!:bday:
  20. Nobody around here uses turn signals............ Maybe they have the same problem you do? Hummm..............
  21. Why would you want to do that to a SUBARU!
  22. Checked your lugs lately? The fact that it doesn't do it all the time makes me think its not a tire deal. I'd be inclined to look to the steering & suspension. Do you have the means to jack the front end and check for play? I'd jack the front completely off the ground and see if you can get something to move. A quarter of an movment would be too much play in any of those parts. I was rejected on a state inspection because I had a quarter inch play in one of my rods---but the inspector was prying on my car with a 3 foot pry bar and got something to move a quarter inch when he failed my car. My .02 Glenn, 82 Hatch, almost wired.... 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  23. I'm currently sifting through my harness removing stuff I no longer want. I'm impressed by how many times they ground the harness to the chassis. Grounds connect with other grounds and they all head for the chassis! I think you'd be ok grounding to the chassis like the factory does. I also think you'd be ok connecting to any factory ground wire as they all ground to the chassis. For what it's worth. Glenn, 82 Summer, almost wired........ 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
  24. Try the photos section under brochures! Heres one! What year are you looking for? Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be.... 01 Forester, bent but not broken!
