  1. Not sure if it's listed here or not but here is a link to Mudrat's for sale site. Oregonoffroadsubaruclub Hope this helps... Glenn 82 Summer, It's alive, thanks for your help, Mudrat! 01 Forester, ya, I know...it needs a lift!
  2. Funny you should mention that? I've been thinking on doin that! Checker plate and Rhino lining--what a concept! Could it get any cooler? I've been looking at the different methods of applying that stuff. My worry in spraying is on a tube frame most of it will end up as overspray:mad: Rolling may leave a real rough finish and brushing may leave too smooth of finish? I'm looking for a spatter finish about the consistency of a textured wall or Rhino liner? Anyone had any experience/recomendations for a tube frame application? The Krylon I put on originally will scrape just by looking at it! Ideas? Glenn, 82 Summer, almost done... 01 Forester, done!
  3. With a commute like that, might I suggest a model with a "T" associated with it. My .02 Glenn 82 Summer, almost done..... 01 Forester, done......
  4. mtsfabman, All the pics I have are Here! It's a rough time line done with my video camara for still pics. (I maintain the basic tube chassis could be done in two weeks just working evenings) The things I have left are mostly cosmetic, however they are time consuming. (finish dashboard/console, mount tail lights, install rear floor, rear seats, rear fenderwells and mount the winch!) Done! Glenn, 82 Summer, almost done! 01 Forester, done!
  5. Killer pics, I recognize the area. I had no idea that was Little Moab? My Scouts are going to Nutty Putty cave this weekend. I'm not sure if I'm going with them or not. (I think I'd rather work on the buggy) I test fired it a few days ago---started up great after 9 months of "rest & transformation". Is this your wagon in the pic? How Subaruable is this area? Glenn, 82 Summer, running but not finished. 01 Forester, running and finished!
  6. When ever I'm low on coolant I get the same thing..... However, you may not be getting any coolant type heating in your heater....? Let me explain. As I was taking out my heater and moving it to the buggy I noticed a wire that didn't make sence? I unscrewed the plug and wire only to find a heating element in my heater? I didn't realize Subarus had an electric heating element in the heater besides the coolant heating system. If it is weak heat, you may only be heating your windshield with the electric element and your other system is not working? Just a thought? Glenn, 82 Summer, with heater! 01 Forester, also with heater.
  7. I did my Trooper!....it was simple. I watched the guy at the Junk yard pull it out. I did the same thing in reverse. I duct taped the window at the right level to the Trooper, so I didn't have to hold it. Put the gasket on the window. Pushed the window into a corner to start. Got a wide flat blade screwdriver and gently lifted/pulled the gasket inside the frame. Did it with one person in 5 minutes on a back vertical window. Maybe I got lucky or maybe its easy but I thought it was simple. For what its worth, Glenn 88 Trooper, 91 Trooper, And the Subies....
  8. I use the Supertrap muffler on my trials bike with 4 disks on it:D The sound can't be beat! Glenn, 82 Summer, just needs armor plating.... 01 Forester, jealous.......
  9. Had some time last night and I threw some gas in the tank of Summer. Not really knowing what to expect, I figured I'd turn the key and find out what would happen? I double checked all the electrical connections, fluids, connected the battery and turned the key! Of course the battery cranked real slow. I had charged the battery off and on since I removed it last July. Guess I wasted my time there. So I went and got the Trooper and jumped the battery. Cranked fast but did not start? Undetured, I stole the snowmoble starter fluid and shot a dash in the carb. Climbed back in, crossed my fingers and turned the key... It fired! Smoked a tiny bit, slightly more than it used to on a cold morning. The engine sounded....well....the same:D I was hoping the Cherry Bomb Turbo II would change the sound but it sounds about like it did with my old muffler. At that point my boys and I piled in and went for many trips up and down the drive way. The only thing that kept me from taking a quick dash out on the street was the fact that I had piles of tools on the fenders, roof and rear of the buggy. One thing I noticed....at lower speeds (like driveway speeds), those deep lug tires are brutal! The buggy shakes each time a lug hits the ground. I'm looking forward to serious traction:grin: At somewhere over 5 mph the tires seem to mellow out and just roll instead of klunk! Only thing that seemed wrong was the idle seemed high. I kept releasing the choke and it would idle down but would slowly climb back up in rpms. This could be because it may not have been totally warmed up. The heat gauge did move up about 1/4 of the way though? Would a vacuum line cause any of this high idling? I'll let it warm up tonight and see if the idle calms down. Anyway, I'm happy!!!! Glenn 82 Summer, running---but not finished. 01 Forester, running---finished!
  10. Looking at picking up spare 4wd drive train parts for the SubaruHummer. Summer is made out of an 82 Hatch. I took about 18" out of my drive line. Will the driveline of a 4sp bolt to the 5sp tranny/diff? Are both the front and rear 5sp axles the same as the 4sp? Does the 5sp tranny have the same mounting points as the 4sp? Are the 4sp and 5sp first gear ratios the same? What I'm getting at is, will a 5sp be a reasonable parts car for an 82 Hatch? Thanks, Glenn 82 Summer 01 Forester
  11. Just order a large pepperoni from Dominos. They will even deliver your spare!
  12. I wire brushed mine and found 8" holes:eek: Good thing I had carpet!
  13. Looks like good junk to me! Start carving! Fingers crossed, Glenn 82 Hatch, well it started out that way... 01 Forester, still is.....
  14. Damage, Damage? What Damage...... I thought thats how they were suppose to look? Love the skid plate up front. What is it made of? Where/what are you attaching it to in the back? I'm also looking for suggestions on how to reinforce the diff bar??? Looking good! Glenn, 82 Hatch? Well it used to be..... 01 Forester, still is.....
  15. Xtreme, There's modified XT's around, One of my favorites This guy is running what looks to be a tractor tire with a chevron pattern. I thought this ride was great! Hatchet, where is little Moab from Nutty Putty? Glenn, 82 Summer, needs to get finished! 01 Forester, finished!
  16. Welcome to the board! If I understand things correctly.... Since you don't use the front transaxle (consequently they would take no power away from the engine) all output power would be transfered to the driveshaft. My suggestion is use the old transaxle cups as a PTO for a generator/welder or Winch? A PTO could be real handy along the trail? Mudrat has some ideas on this. On your tranny... I have the same problem in first when I lug it. Folks on the board have told me that its most likely a syncro that is messed up and causing the problem. Anyone else? Glenn, 82 Summer, SubaruHummer....... 01 Forester, Jealous.........
  17. I have used most of the brands over the years. My experience has been that they are all about the same. The importent thing is getting it on before the rust starts! I had been using it every few years to reseal the floor pan. It seems to me that the seams and cracks are hard to seal and that is where the rust starts.:madder: I say if the rust has not started then undercoat away. If rust has started you probably need to fix those areas before sealing. Good luck, Glenn 82 Hatch, terminal rust on the botton side.... 01 Forester, no rust!
  18. Hard to tell what kind of deal you got until you get it up and running. Storing cars isn't the best thing you can do for them. If you can put a belt in it and get a JY steering column for cheap, you got a great deal. What's important is you now have a platform to sculpt with. What mods are you contemplating Glenn, 82 Summer 01 Forester
  19. My tach has jumped for several years now. I have never fixed it Maybe I should but so far it hasn't been a problem. 82 Summer, jumpy tach 01 Forester, regular tach
  20. You sure that's not a Tamiya Mudblaster? Looks too good to be real! Glenn, 82 Summer, wish I had time to work on it..... 01 Forester, same same.
  21. I'm in on this one! Johns a great guy, he knows his Subarus! That's all he does. He is my go-to guy. His fabrication and mechanic skills can't be beat. Besides working on Subarus, John has a life. He responds to emails and answers his phone like everyone else. If Johns away or pursuing a hobby, that makes him a real person and it will make him a better one when he returns. Our Subies are old they will break. If you have concerns about the car, ask John. If he is aware of the problem he would tell you how much it would cost to fix or how you could do it yourself. Mudrat has my vote of confidence. Glenn, 82 Summer, Mudrat approved! 01 Forester, Mudrat says it's too low!
  22. Brian, My 82 did this exact same thing (many years ago). Exact same! Replacing the pump did the trick. It was my pump NOT the wiring. The black wire is the ground it should run the the side of the car then connect with all the other black wires in the grounding system in the harness. Good Luck, Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be..... 01 Forester, still is.....
  23. I think these will get you there! http://www.candssales.com/psp/showdetl.cfm?&DID=66&User_ID=1111226&st=4475&st2=51129439&st3=79951964&Product_ID=1678&CATID=165 This was my choice.........I didn't want the 2" lugs. http://www.rockymountainatv.com/home.asp?sid=0003408975 I wish you well in your search. Glenn 82 Hatch, well it used to be..... 01 Forester, still is........
  24. Welcome to the board! There is a wealth of information out there on the board. I haven't been able to stump the board yet. Good to have you on board, Glenn, 82 Hatch, well it used to be...... 01 Forester, still is.......
