So with this new gearing,.........what will your crawl ratio be? Also, I assume your swapping the rear axle for the Datsun, are you also swapping out the front suspension? Show us pictures as you go! Keep going, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

What did the Cops say about all this? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Were lazy, send us a link! I breezed through the reader rides but missed your gallery. Thanks Glenn

Ever since I went through the San Rafael Swell a few weeks ago, my tail gate is squeeking. Is there any known squeeking problem areas or is this a ride in the back to isolate the squeek? Its bump sensitive and comming from the plastic in the actual tail gate. I have used paper to stop squeeks on other cars. Any suggestions? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Drove it around last night. It vibrates on the asphault! You have to get going over 5 mph or it klunks because the lugs are so deep on the tires. I'm keeping a timelapse record of my progress on the reader ride section under Sweet82. It's not perfect but it does have the basic build record. I had never thought of a Subaru as a kit platform either? However it does make sence. You have a RELIABLE vehicle with 4WD and a LOW RANGE and all for a purchase price of $200-500. Add all these things up and you have a great starting point for an off-road vehicle. Just like the VWs it has a horizontally opposed 4. I have a bunch of modifications from the AZ plans. 1st I lowered the front of the hood 8" for better visibility. Next I made it a 4 seater. Then I incorporated a roof rack/roll bar for the back end. To finish I added rock sliders and drink holders! If I ever did it again I'd make even more changes to the original plans. As for WCSS6 I am logistically challenged! I'd love to go but have no way to get there. My trailer (Home Depot) won't haul the buggy and my Trooper is a 4 banger!, I have no tow rig. However if anyone is passing through SLC with trailer space???

92 Loyale turn signal problem
Sweet82 replied to potter's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm not sure what your setup is like............but on mine, I have two elements in the bulb. If one of your elements is toast, that would explain it. Look at the bulb and see if it has two elements. One will be for running lights and one for the blinker. Just a thought? Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
Don't get me wrong, my local Subaru Dealer has been good and the last time I called 1-800-Subaru they were helpful. This time they SUCKED and DIDN'T seem to care! The part I'm looking to replace is a Fuel Pump Control Unit 429547014. What I know about this is it's only good for an 82 with a carter webber and no part # supercedes this number in later years. Q. Is there a preceding part # that may work? No parts directly replaced this on later years, but did this part interchange/replace an earlier year? I realize I'm chasing a lost cause........but I've tried a 429547022----won't send power to the fuel pump:-\ . I now have a 429547102----sends power to the pump but no signal to the electric choke. Car runs with this but I have to mess with the choke everytime I start it:-\ . I just wish there were more old Subies in my neck of the woods. Glenn, 82, SubaruHummer 01, Forester

Subaru of America is WORTHLESS! After waiting 20 minutes on hold the wouldn't even try to look for a cross referenced part number. They just wanted all my personal information. After they got some of that (I won't gurantee the accuracy of the information I gave them) they simply said they couldn't reference the part number system. They didn't even ask for the part number! They are worthless! Thanks for nothing SOA!

My choke has been stuck on because of an electrical issue.... Is your choke on? Just a thought? Glenn

Thanks Calebz! I'll bother them this morning:D Glenn

I have tried several "black boxes" none with the correct #s I have a 429547002 on it at the moment. This box gives power to the fuel pump but will not give power to the electric choke? The car now runs but gets too rich after a minute or so and kills. I can stick a screwdriver in the carb and open the valve and it will start and run fine. Any Ideas on how to manually control the electric choke, if I can't find a 429547014 FPCU? Anyone had experience with the electric chokes? Thanks, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer, choking.... 01 Forester, laughing.....

I had some friends at RockLogic 4X4 bend the tube. http://www.rocklogic4x4.com/ <--Got to pimp them, they were great! I looked at a couple of cheap benders, including Harbor Freights, but I didn't think I could get the quality of bend that I wanted with any bender I could afford. I'm looking forward to actually using it? I have the rear seats and the dash area to finish up then she will be out on her inaugural voyage! Gettin hard to wait...... If your in, or traveling through Utah stop by! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer, may end up being registered as a 2004 RhinoBuggy. 01 Subaru, registered as a Subaru.

Looks Great! How big is the lift? What size are the tires? Wish I had one...... Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Its a Rhino! The plans cost $50.00 US. I modified the plans to look more like a Scorpion. http://www.scorpion4x4.com/ I have a little less than $500 in steel tubing. A little more than $500 in aluminum plating. The Custom rims set me back about $80/ea. The nice thing about building is you can "pay as you go" so it doesn't hurt that much. My old hatch was too rusty on the bottom side to lift and the motor and drive train were too good to part with. Rhinoing it made sence. I'm headed to DMV to convince them that it's still a 82 Subaru Hatchback? If I'm successful they will issue me an Off-Road title "for a Subaru"? That would be a first. I finished the tail lights on the buggy, sadly I was unable to re-use my old hatch tail lights:-\ . I ended up using Semi trailer lights. I think the tail lights look like some sort of amusement park ride. I also took a close up pic of my Tires! Them-r-tires! http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo21/cap_042304_083943_29_1 The last pic is of my poor yellow Hatch going for it's final ride! Sniff! Sniff! It likes it's new body much better! I had the same problems with my horns. They probably still work, they just need cleaning. My connectors were corroded big time, I cleaned/replaced them. The horns can be adjusted by turning that big center screw. They may come back to life if you mess with them a bit. They sound so much better than the Harbor Freight $7 american sounding car horns. Good luck! Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

I'm looking for the phone number for Subaru of America 'technical support?' I have talked with them in the past and they were most helpful but, I can't find the number. I looked in FAQ and did a search for posts but found nothing:confused: Anyone got it handy? Thanks, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer, misbehaving 01 Forester, behaving

Utah area roading; Ideas??
Sweet82 replied to teppichkopf's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
You probably want to go through Zions and see the narrows, do some hiking, see Angels landing... http://www.nps.gov/zion/ The San Rafael Swell is Mountain Biking and Desert. Good Gravel Roads but slippery when wet! http://www.go-utah.com/utah/san-rafael/swell.html Moab is worth a visit. A dual range tranny will let you see more of Moab. The Slick Rock Bike trail is kind of a moral imperative when in Moab. http://www.discovermoab.com/news.htm Chris "Bratcrazy" works in Bryce Canyon N.P. He could give you some good info on Subarus and Bryce Canyon. http://www.nps.gov/brca/ Hope this helps your trip planning. Glenn, 82 SubarHummer 01 Forester -
fastest/cheapest way to gain ground clearance
Sweet82 replied to The Scooby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Tires are the fastest way to get ground clearance, and if you have tires and rims that is also the cheapest. Gearing is something you may want to think about when balancing your needs/requirements for the Subie? I have 26's and I notice the difference in my gearing:-\ Good luck, Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester -
For those who care......... The part number 429547014 (FPCU) is ONLY for an 1982 Subaru with the Carter-Webber single barrel carb. No cross reference or superceding part numbers are available for this unit. The good news is it's still available on order for $150! I'm depressed now............. Glenn, 82 SubaruHummer, with the Carter-Webber carb! 01 Forester, without a carb!

What is the center bore of E82 rims?
Sweet82 replied to SubaRube's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Do you know if an EA82 is the same as an EA81? I had some custom EA81 rims made and I have those specks. Let me know if you want them or think they are compatible. What are you trying to do to? Glenn 82 SubaruHummer, 01 Forester,
