Just a heads-up, user SkankinPickle has swindled me out of a purchased part.
Listen, I understand Skankin was/is a seasoned board member. I hope to assume he has been as helpful as all of you since I have joined. However, the fact is that 3 members were hustled out of their funds, I was lucky enough to recover mine. I am all for being reasonable and accommodating, no ones perfect and we all get into jams. I'm a college student with an 80s Subaru, what does that say about my financial status? This isn't not a minor issue, not when Skankin went from excuses to straight bs. Do you know how many emails he ignored, he selectively responded to me. Then he comes back acting like I didn't get worries about my package, that he did nothing to reassure me. This is where I draw a line, when he thinks to put hi.self above others. That's when my sympathy ends, as I don't think very highly of scamming people whether decisively or by pure negligence. And I want the board to know, already by posting this thread, I found out about the others who were in the same boat but ended up empty handed with no recourse. IF, big if here, he ends up shipping the part, because I am an honest person in my dealings, and because I could actually use a second spare, I would send him back funds. Doubt that's going to happen though, Skank can prove me wrong I suppose. I am not divulging information, personal information for some sort of witch hunt. Only seek to warn others.

Except that he's *not* in Alaska. Such a shoddy story, I'm just saying its highly unlikely. Then there's the fact that he texted me from an Alaska number, so I rightly did the same back In the process of using such an app, it notified me the user I was messaging was already using the same application! Not surprising, since it was one of the top Android phantom apps.

I didn't feel it necessary to add this before, however, he originally told me he left my package with his sister to mail. Just more non-continuity for the record.

Also just received word: " Sent Today, 02:55 AM Sam, Any luck receiving your stuff? I left it with my parents to ship before I left three weeks ago. I moved to Dutch Harbor, Alaska with the owners of the house I was painting... -Jus..." Yet he pays NO mention of my repeatedly ignored requests for tracking information. At this point in time, PayPal has awarded me my funds back from Skank. Heed our warning, two (3? Subarubrat) no shows with separate reasoning for each?

Still no word from Skankin. On the plus side, I did get my money back. Anyone who sees this, I'll buy your EA81 hub if you have one. Thanks pps

Sounds like he is in a very tight spot, it's a shame how things turned out for the moment. I'll let you all know if I hear word from him.

Super thorough advice as always dude!! Couldn't have asked for a better run-down of that approach. I couldn't help but think a little drill work would get those EA81 hubs mated with an EA82 set-up.. If there's enough metal, it's not like it would be getting any serious force on that hole.. Skylar said he has a hub, I'm willing to pull the trigger in the next few days. I'll.. pm both of you tomorrow

I understand us board members can take awhile to get to shipping. Its a pain, and it can be pricey. However, I do a lot of online bizz, and I just can't assume he's blowing me off like that til he can ship it out. Then again, I took a look and saw he's quite an active member. Now a few of you are backing him. Still... PayPal claim is not coming down, I have to cover myself. Oh and Dinky, I certainly did notice he was last on the 8th. He hopped on to reply, and hasn't since. What really throws a wrench into things, is that it's not my cash. I am buying a part for "my car", but I sold it a buddy of mine. Based on his collection of cars, and a small shop to boot, he'll do even better than me! For some reason, he couldn't track a hub down though. Auto-parts.com seems to have a few, but I'd much rather buy one off of someone from the board. Thanks for all the help! I'll be back on tomorrow

I agree, and he had told me of some of his history. I feel like he might have asked too little and now can't ship it out.. "swindle" is a strong word, but I did want to get the message out. Oh and hubs! I'm always ready, PM when it's convenient for you. Thanks Skylar

I have been looking for an eighties EA81 4WD front hub for sometime, I got in touch with SkankinPicklehttp://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/user/33-skankinpickle/ after he got back to me about my WTB post. Took awhile to get confirmation pics of the part, once that was received, I agreed to him sending a PayPal invoice (that whole route, the taxed transac). I paid it, and unsurprisingly, he didn't provide a tracking number. He was getting to it with convincing reasoning, but days turned to weeks. In total, it's been just shy of a month, filed a dispute earlier on. The turning point was him adopting an out of state phone number, ehem "moving out of state" and leaving the package to be shipped by someone else. Riiight... TextPlus confirms him as a user of their service. Now it's escalated to a claim, and I expect PayPal to reverse my funds. However, I have heard otherwise from other unfortunate members. A lesson to all out there making similar deals with board members, use a credit card instead of your PayPal balance. If anything happens, your Credit Card Provider will cover you. I realized my mistake, and wish I had exercised some foresight. If anyone has this part, please help out another board member. Winter is coming! The Subie is getting neglected due to the stripped hub splines. I have a 1987 Subaru Standard Hatch. The BRAT hubs, among other models, are compatible. Here's pictures of what I need! http://imgur.com/3C7Zf55,XOYYODJ,3nkbcum,16dLiN7,GkxnXP0,KexugeQ,B24RMmM,eft53TW,gLq6EK5,jmSAaqd

The first "oldie" I've seen around Chicago, so clean.. :( where's my hatch when I need it.
- Back! Looking for a used WRX, is 110-145k bad for budget? Would you all recommend?
Thanks for the informative replies, unfortunately it looks like I may be returning to the Nissan family xD, but I'm still open to one WRX I found. Based on what you, Fairtax4me, said, I'd still bring my mechanic and thoroughly inspect the car. However, it has 120k and is one of the modder cars. Always a risk of being beaten on, but it has had upgraded parts and a recently replaced turbo! I'll put the link here, if anyone wants to comment on it, please feel free. http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/4517709394.html- My clutch went out! BUT no sound or feeling when engine running and engaged. What gives? Shouldn't there be something.
I'm going to have to one-up you! Like I mentioned, I know the guy who bought my Soob, he showed me the clutch plate http://postimg.org/gallery/6aj0woow/- Back! Looking for a used WRX, is 110-145k bad for budget? Would you all recommend?
I'm looking into getting a car to replace my Summer bike. Looking around, the only cars I've found that aren't mundane Rollas and Civics, not to mention with 175k+ mileage, are Subies! I've looked at a few other types of cars, but they usually are not maintained properly or have too many miles for my taste. SO! I'm honing in on an Outback Sport (2003+ gen), yet I'm plagued by the thought of being bored with the level of power of that kind of ride. I'm searching for stick-shifts, to get some fun in the snow, but a WRX would certainly bring me up to a comfy level of power. //I almost hopped on a low mileage 5 speed Baha, thinking there's no way I'd be bored with so much practicality Under my budget, I have found a few 2002/2003/2004 WRX's with either 120-147k miles, or one or two with about 100-110k but some risky mechanical issues. For those in the know, what do you think about buying such a WRX? I hear tell the Turbo repairs are frighteningly expensive, and I also don't intend on buying a car I have to replace the H.G. on I'm fine with a little work on my car, but I don't want that in a higher budget ride. For my last Sub, '87 Standard Hatch, that was alright. What should I look out for when buying a used WRX? Are the bug eyes renown for some kind of faults? A family member's friend bought a New WRX back around 2000-2003 (idr), and I heard he had some costly repairs with his turbo setup which became common-place starting that year. This is what I recall from a decade ago, any merit? I'm going to browse the marketplace, hope to get back some useful info as per usual on here! Thanks y'all EDIT: I have also found a few rides with 150-200k but a rebuilt or swapped engine. I frown away from that kind of setup, is there any chance of that working or will I end up with a lot of suspension and trans repairs? And if you are the lad from Chicago who sold your Baha hours before I came for it, I despise you!! (lol jk)- My first Impreza, after more than 40 subarus
THEY CAN DO THAT?? ..or are you unbolting the drive shaft? Just wondering! Thanks- My clutch went out! BUT no sound or feeling when engine running and engaged. What gives? Shouldn't there be something.
Hmm, I'll pass that message over to the buyer of my hatch (mechanic's special, not fooling anyone with a car that can't drive)- My clutch went out! BUT no sound or feeling when engine running and engaged. What gives? Shouldn't there be something.
Didn't expect the cv shafts to be snapped, they weren't. Just the clutch plate given all the helpful descriptions. Thanks- What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
What did I do to my hatch? Well I had my muffler shop touch up their work and remove a bottom heat guard on a cat to put an end to an incessant rattle. Oh.. and I sold her! More below, but I'll see you all again soon enough. If you ever need one of these on a trailer, 3 guys can do it Got a parts bike out of it too, and sold that the next day! All in all a great week, albeit sorry to see my Subie go- My clutch went out! BUT no sound or feeling when engine running and engaged. What gives? Shouldn't there be something.
Is it common for an extremely worn clutch to make no contact whatsoever?- My clutch went out! BUT no sound or feeling when engine running and engaged. What gives? Shouldn't there be something.
Ok, I'll check what I am able to.- My clutch went out! BUT no sound or feeling when engine running and engaged. What gives? Shouldn't there be something.
I figured it was completely used up, but wouldn't there be contact still? Would the flywheel not be gouged as it cannot reach that far?- My clutch went out! BUT no sound or feeling when engine running and engaged. What gives? Shouldn't there be something.
The idea of a stripped hub of some sort was floated, I'll definitely take a look at the shafts. Thanks- My clutch went out! BUT no sound or feeling when engine running and engaged. What gives? Shouldn't there be something.
So my clutch gave out on Monday, it was started to slip a lot and finally it gave nothing. My car was pushed into a local lot. The thing is, if I start it up and engage the clutch, it's as if it's NOT there. There is no sound or feeling, yet the pedal has the same tension as normal. What could be the problem? If the clutch plate had been worn down completely, (not out of the question as I mistook clutch slippage as a weak old engine for quite sometime now) would it still be there to have some contact. I don't think the clutch plate is stuck back, no abnormal jerks or feeling. And it could not have burst, it just progressed into massive slippage, then nothing. Please help! Thank you in advance for any advice or comments, -Sam - Back! Looking for a used WRX, is 110-145k bad for budget? Would you all recommend?
