  1. The stock awd in my 97 is crap, so why would i want to keep it??????? It burns the clutch even in deep snow it is so high geared. I had a 93 loyale with a DR trans I installed in it and it worked great for towing my boat other than it was underpowered. But it would launch it anywhere in low range.
  2. I want to build a Legacy outback pickup out of my 1997 outback wagon it has the 2.2 motor and I want to put in the old DR 5 speed out of a gl and top it off with a 2 or 3 inch lift and dual stack exghast. The 2 things I'm not sure about, in the trans swap are all the axles the same and I have heard the trans for the EA82 were shorter can you use the EA82 driveline? What about the rear axle ratio for a 5 speed trans are they all the same between the EJ and EA? I want to be able to tow and launch my small boat without burning the clutch up like it does now This is kind of what I'm going for. I thought of doing the reverse of this and putting a 2.2 L motor in a Loyale with the same body mods. But I would like the cruise and some of the other features you don't find on most older Subaru's and from what i have heard the wiring for this swap is a real pain. I included a drawing of a Loyale with the same mod. Which one do you like better?
  3. Does anybody make an adapter kit to put the old Hi/Lo GL/Loyale tranny into a newer Outback legacy with the 2.2 motor? Or has anybody here ever done it. I hate how high geared my 98 Outback is, you can't do anything with it without burning the clutch. I would like to use it off road a little and tow my small boat. It has plenty of power, just poor gearing.
  4. My 93 Loyale doesn't put out good heat, it blows lukewarm air at best. It has good flow through the heater core as both hoses get very hot. Does anyone have an expanded view of the heater box or have any info on how the heater door works and where it's at? This is a 5sp with AC 4x4 wagon Then you turn the heat off with the switch it blows COLD turn the heat on it blows warmish. I suspect the heat door is not opening properly, any way to check that?
  5. Just an FYI you can do a clutch without pulling the engine or tranny. All you need to do is pull the radiator and hoses, unbolt the motor mounts and bellhousing bolts and the exhaust pipes. Then you can lift the motor enough to spin it to the side and get at the clutch. You don't need to unhook any of the wires just a few hoses. With this method I have replaced a clutch in well under an hour
  6. Here is what I do to earn a living so i think I have the skill this is a 34 Chevy 5 window coupe I'm currently working on. Before and now This is a 55 Chevy 210 before and after This is just a few of the cars I have done.
  7. Double check all your snap together electric connections. I'd say one is not snapped in tight.
  8. Oh man that's cute as hell. LOL Now I really want to do it. How much did you shrink the wheel base? What donner car did you use? I want to do an ea82 efi motor with a dual range tranny
  9. I'm wondering if anyone here has ever heard of somebody dropping the front suspension with motor and tranny and the complete rear suspension and welding up a lightweight tube frame for it to make their own 4 wheel drive buggy. The power to weight should be amazing and I would think this would be a fairly simple build. I wish I had a runner I could chop up, but all I have are dead ones and my daily driver. Which I anit cuttin it up, love that car:) Here is a loose idea of what I have in mind. I would put 15" 6 lug wheels on it with some big monster mudder tires for extra ground clearance.
  10. I want to do a 3" total lift on my 93 Loyale. I plan to turn it into a Brat wannabee truck. I plan to build my own lift kit with a 2" body lift and a 3" suspension lift. My question on the body lift is. I know I will need to extend the steering shaft, but what about the tranny shifter on manuals doesn't that all need to be lowered to match? Will it still shift ok? What about the driveline center carrier, and rearend suspension? This is how I hope my Subee will look when i get it done, other then I plan to paint mine with 2 part truck bed-liner in a bright Chartreuse green with black accents.
  11. 99 times out of 100 it needs new seals in the oil pump when they start ticking.
  12. Looks like not enough people are interested in this for me to bother with a video blog.
  13. I have a 93 Loyale SW I plan to make into a brat type truck. by cutting the roof off it and moving the rear hatch forward and welding it in. I have seen a few of these and they look sooooo coool!! I also plan to do a 3 " lift and 6 bolt conversion with fender flares for 15" wheels with a mid size set of mud tires. I'm planing to do a video blog of it and wondering how many people here would be interested in this. I also plan to paint it with 2 part truck bed-liner type coating in a bright Chartreuse green with some black accents. Here is what I plan to do to the body
  14. OK I think I have figured this out the wing nuts on the battery + posts that hold the 2 wires to it was corroded and not making a circuit so the ignition was not getting power I cleaned all the connections and it works fine. I tested this by loosening the wing nut and the car died so I'm 100% sure I got it fixed.
  15. Even if the battery had a loose connection it should still run off just the alternator so that is not what the problem is I'm sure It has to loose power to the ignition for the motor to die.
  16. I have a 1997 Legacy Outback that has a weird electrical glitch. For no apparent reason it looses power and the motor dies and the tach goes crazy. At nite the lights will stay on till the motor slows down enough the alternator quits working then everything is dead with no electrical power. Every time after a few seconds the lights come back on and the car starts and drives away like nothing ever happened.. It did this to me 3 times yesterday on a trip. twice while doing 60 mph down the road and once in the gas station. If it was a battery issue I can't see it working again without at least wiggling the posts. Has anyone ever had this problem?
  17. Some older 60"s cars came from the factory with 4 headlights that worked on high beam and only 2 worked on low beam'
  18. Unfortunately about 100% of the time by the time you see the bubble in the paint it's already to late for an easy fix as this type of rust comes from the inside and rusts out. Only fix is to cut all rust out and weld in new rust free panels, then undercoat all the metal that water can get to.
  19. Do you deliver to N. Idaho? LOL I could use the parts mainly the tranny, so whats the deal with them.
  20. I just like the way the EFI motor runs compared to any carb versions, I have ever had plus my best carbed motor got about 26 MPG and my current EFI get 34 MPG and has more power, and It is less problematic IMHO as well.
  21. I'm looking to buy a new EA 82 subee to build, but having trouble finding what I want. It has to have EFI, 5 speed, and the hi-lo 4x4. So far I have not found any, How hard would it be to convert a older model GL to the later EFI ? Or would it be more trouble than it's worth? The main thing I think would be the hardest is the wiring. Should I try it or just start with an EFI car in the beginning.
  22. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth guess I will stick to my 93 Loyale with the hi/lo tranny that I put in and fix it up. Maybe swap the motor out for a 2.2
  23. Id like to know if anyone has put the older 5 speed tranny out of a 85 to 89 GL into a newer Legacy like a 95 with the 2.2 liter motor. I know lots have done the opposite and put a 2.2 motor into a older Gl body. Id like the newer body and the more powerful 2.2 motor, but all the legacy's are to high geared for me as I like to 4x4 with them and pull my little boat. Without the lower gears it burns the clutch trying to pull the boat out of the water. Is it the same other then the bolt pattern on the motor? as in length? drivelines? what years of Legacy would work the best, I know the newer ones are hyd, clutch and not a cable like the GL's were. So need advice on what I should look for and if it is reasonable to do this. I found a candidate in a 94 Legacy AWD wagon with a bad 5 speed trans for $500 but a good running motor. I know I would have to do some mods to the center console for the 4wd shift lever but not sure what else it would take to make it work.
