will my virginia subaru pass cali emmisions???
nipper replied to scrapdaddytatum's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThese things run so clean, it should pass with no problems. When everything went obdII, the line between cali and rest of the world emissions got really foggy. I wouldnt worry about it, it should pass with flying colors. nipper

Trying to confirm blown HG
nipper replied to Gardener's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhead gasket must be from subaru, everything else can be a good name brand. Its important that a good machine shop mills the head, thats 97% of the reason why they fail again. nipper

Wiper problem/question
nipper replied to screwbaru2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThose bushings should be available. Also the old junk yard route never fails. Those bushings dont usually fail inless people dont clear thier windshield of ice before turning on the wipers. nipper

nipper replied to bakerman1's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi'm not sure quite what the problem is. What doesnt sound like torquebind. (does sound like a wheel alignment). nipper

Weird handling, transmission issue
Check the subframe. I had an 88 do this to me, and it was eating parts. The subframe in the front was rotted, and pulling the front end apart. nipper

nipper replied to bakerman1's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi was going to guess 1500-1800. 1000.00 is almost a bargin. nipper

*..Cost for rebuilding a Transmission?..*
nipper replied to bakerman1's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXExplain exactly what it is doing. DOwnshifintg on its own?? If the engine RPM is not flairing as the car upshifts, mechanically the transmission is fine. nipper

How quickly should the AWD rear kick in?
nipper replied to Gene J's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFluid couplings have to heat up to transfer the power. The fact that the car did move does tell you it works. Manuals either work or are locked up. I've yet to see a manual not work, they just dont work instantly. In order for the fluid to heat up and expand, there has to a speed differential between front and rear. The hook up isnt a hard mechanical hookup, its more like a fluid hook up untill the fluid gets hot enough to transfer 50% of the power. Usually before that happnes the car is moving, the front wheels are off the slick spot, and everything goes back to equilibrium. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-viscous-coupling.htm nipper

Wheel bearing death?
There is really only a few companies that make bearings in the world (Toyo and federal Moog and i forget who else). They can be had from any parts store. They have to be pressed in and out. nipper

Wheel bearing death?
er um .... Nowhere did anyone say to jack up the car, shake the wheel (checking for freeplay), and spin it by hand, listneing for a noisey bearing? Eventually the noise will get worse and let you know what it is. nipper

All-Wheel Drive Legacy issue
nipper replied to Lucenut's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGRRR you get 50/50 split during the following conditions Full throttle -OR- low gear -OR- Reverse whats not to understand? One more time then i am bowing out you drive the car at 1pm. at 115 pm you have an internal transmission failure. you shut off the car and start it at 3pm. When you start it at 3pm the light will flash to tell you something failed during that 1pm drive. You shut the car off, not having moved it or put it in gear. you restart the car at 303 pm. Since you did not do anything for the transmission computer to send any signals to anything in the tranny, as far as it is concenred during that run cycle everything is fine. So when you shut the car off and restatr it at 310pm, the light will not flash. nipper

Dragon's Ready to Fly, but MPG Issues?
nipper replied to four-fleet-feet's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, I drive 08 Impreza outback, and my driving conditions are 50 miles round trip on free way during weekdays approx 15 miles of city drive everyday. I started to use beads that produces negative ion and I installed like the pictures, my gas mileage was jumped to 31.2mpg/avg from 26.4mpg / avg. it might have some effect on your car. I'm having some trouble uploading pics, I will do so asap, but I got the beads from http://www.toa-corp.co.jp/eg/garage/specials/autoacc.htm I have a bridge and some land in florida to sell ...... nipper

All-Wheel Drive Legacy issue
nipper replied to Lucenut's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIn Reverse low, and ful throttle the car forces a 50/50 split. All AWD cars (that actually are awd and not some funky weeny system) will show some initial TB when backing out of a parking spot at full lock. When going forward there should be no TB in a tight turn. If the light flashed 16 times when you start the car, then shut it off, then restatr the car and dont drive it, it may not flash again. Thats because the tranny hasnt done anything yet to need the solenoids operating. nipper nipper

Dragon's Ready to Fly, but MPG Issues?
nipper replied to four-fleet-feet's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNot quite. Cold air makes for denser air coming into the engine, so you actually get a little more omph in winter, but the winter fuel takes that away. Cold engine makes for using more fuel. 23.3 is actually very respectable. nipper

Symptoms of bad water pump and overtemping solved!
nipper replied to buckeye's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXreplace your radiator cap too. Running hot is typically a radiator cap (as opposed to over heating which is something else). nipper

I need opinions
nipper replied to deadend9009's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXPS Check your tranny fluid. Also people do dumb things like putting the wrong fluids in the wrong places. Also get a new raditaor cap, your due.

I need opinions
nipper replied to deadend9009's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo it hasnt over heated on you. It hasnt boiled over. What makes you think its a HG and not dirty radiator fluid. Flush the system, clean the overflow tank, and see what happens. nipper
