hey guys, well I installed a new alt and battery... seems fine! just drove it...with heater on, and brake applied... turn the turn signal on, it fluctuates from like 10-12 volts on the gauge, twitching... lights get slightly dim... start driving normally, about 13-14 on the gauge and lights get slightly brighter...doesn't that sound about right? no warning lights anymore... -
I had to clear the codes when I replaced mine... I forget how to do it off hand... but it worked for me Also, if you dont have emission tests... black electrical tape works wonders.

i REALLY hope there's no more electrical problems... i shouldnt have pulled the negative cable while it was running anyways (thats what caused the wiper to do that) i have a multimeter... i was just too lazy to find it, so i did the quick-n-easy test... no fuses blew though... so maybe nothing else is wrong?? all i get is stupid dim warning lights... and the voltage drain.. haha -

its a tad bit loose... im planning on replacing both the V-belts tomorrow along with the alternator. plus a battery possibly... im debating an Optima or a Diehard.. -

Oh what the hey, ill replace the ECU if i have to... not like its that hard! it DID throw an ECS code at me earlier... like code 88? something like that.. about the only thing im really afraid of is the wiring harness in a car... horrible i'll look up whether that ECU can be fried when disconnecting the cable... and im still in shock why would the wipers come on either way, is the ECU controlling the wipers? -

So AC current from a faulty Alt can cause the wipers to go on by themselves?! That just doesnt sound right... -
i went to work today, car ran great... a few hours later, i ran the radio for 5 minutes or so... then turned it off. an hour later, tried to start car, dead! dead as a doorknob. another hour passes, i think what the hey... try it, it starts! after work, im driving it home and while in traffic, at idle and brake applied, the volt gauge lowered so bad (to like 8v) the radio shut itself off, the lights went BADLY dim... but the car stayed running! i threw it in neutral, revved a tiny bit, it goes back up. stays at around 12v at 1.5k rpm... at the normal 700 (or whatever) it drops gradually. ahhh and the warning lights are semi-lit... you couldnt tell unless you really looked. ok, so i try the "alternator test"... i leave the car running, disconnect the negative battery cable... car dies, and the wiper moved on its own! yes, the wiper wanted to wipe, yet the switch was off. the wiper only does that when i disconnect the negative... i jump the car, runs great at 12v... then WTF disconnect it, try the negative cable again, the wiper does the same thing, and car dies again. im pretty sure its the alternator bad... but why would the wiper come on?!?! is this the subaru gods welcoming me back or something?

EGR problem... gone. replaced with a boneyard unit. cleared codes... everything ECS light related is gone, i guess.. the spark plug is fine. it was difficult to get out and in, nonetheless, it seems like it's in there good enough... ill pay the $$$ if i do have to have it retapped... highly doubt it though now we gots another problem... my car idles like crap. i pump the brake pedal, it lowers and makes the idle worse... im thinking the brake booster, but i dont wanna say im 100% sure and is there a remedy for the 3at's hard shifting when cold? and the tranny dipstick "pops out" of the hole... my last 3at did this... WHY? -
im thinking differently... i wanna keep the ea82 the way it is... it's nice to not get speeding tickets, plus eh, it's a baby, ill consider engine swap once i get some miles on her... the paint buffed out real nice in one section... ive been under the weather lately, washing it took a lot of effort itself. once im feeling better i'm going to take a DA with a buffer attachment, polishing compound, and go crazy! by the way, if she said it was rust free.... wrooong. it has the darn windshield area rust (all of mine had, or have it) and a couple paint chips... i wonder if i can find touchup paint for it... and the bumpers are tweaked but she's still a beauty. i do want to lower it (undecided how much) throw a 5 lug swap on and add WRX wheels....put RX ground effects.... factory fogs and mudflaps... thats it

Looks like the EGR solenoid has already been spliced and replaced with a different one... The spark plug issue... it was REALLY difficult to get the old one out... i got some ngk v-power plugs... the washer looks like its on the block BUT... cylinder 1 still looks higher than cylinder 3... i'm starting to think thats just how it is... funny thing is, i havent had a CEL in over 2 days now haha -

My XT6 painted WRX blue with Viper red pinstriping and decals V10 Viper engine and 6speed tranny, non-governed or chipped ECU custom gauges installed in the place of the old ones sparco seats, back seats customized sparco seats complete custom white leather interior racing hart 18 inch rims limo tinted all around 400 watt amp and sub, four 6x9s with a decent Pioneer deck big a** decal saying "bring it on ricer boy" on the back window and... get some einstein smart guy to fit it all in my xt6 :lol:

I think it's 23 splines, but then again I can be wrong, I havent done an axle in over 2 years... If the axles do fit properly, then you're good. Did you put that pin back in the DOJ, by the tranny? If not, same thing can happen.. -

i think its the EGR also... im gonna check the ECU codes tomorrow morning, and if i cant figure it out, ill try to take a better picture. i had a lot of trouble getting the front spark plug out (cylinder 1) and it looks like cylinder 1's spark plug is sticking out more than cylinder 3. is it supposed to look like that?? -

Yeah, I own two (soon to be three) of them, the XT6 might be going bye-bye soon.. I can't finish it the way I want without breaking the bank.. good 'lil fast ER27 though Knowing I have a Subaru in my driveway makes me feel happy. And pretty comfy. I think I'm an addict. My mom thinks I'm insane. So do half of my friends. I drove the coupe to Las Vegas the night I bought the car (for $125 and a quickie oil change with MMO)... My friends car's are being financed and none of them made it on our voyage (all of them had a hold-up on I-15, except me ) So who cares what they say... Subaru FTW -

hey guys, im the proud owner of a damn near MINT '86 GL coupe now. (BTW Jon it is FI, not Carb'd) i have this odd thingie under the hood thats wired up with jumpers... the connectors dont match its that black thing with the round "knob" on it. you can barely see it in this pic... but what IS that thing? Betcha it's throwing my ECS light... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/medium/IMAGE_00028.jpg (i FORGOT that html code) And also, I bought: Fram fuel filter, Fram PCV valve, Fram air filter, NGK V-Power spark plugs, Borg Warner plug wires, and a distributor cap and rotor. What am I missing? Isnt there some **** im supposed to be cleaning, like the TB and/or IAC? What are those things I clean? I have carb cleaner ready to use I dont care if it's a 3AT and revs higher to all living hell, and might be as old as ME... but I tell you, I feel more safe, and I'm more confident that I'll get to my destinations now... I missed my little EA82 sedan, this sure fulfilled what I was missing I just got rid of my old car which scared me so much: '95 Ford Escort LX with 94k and an out of whack well... everything. When an airbag pops in your face for NO reason, time to run! GAH!

Arizona emmisions laws and DMV crap

you move to the greater phoenix or tucson area, they'll give you problems. any other cities, such as sedona, prescott, flagstaff, havasu, kingman.... no emissions. so disregard the rest of this post... and do the transfer as usual. DO get an OR trip permit as long as you will need it. what i did when i did my time in the grand canyon state: head over to a close town other than phoenix or tucson, get a PO box, use that as your registration address and your home address as the mailing address... they're dingdongs, and will go for it get your drivers license anywhere, that wont make one difference, keep your OR license till it expires, none of them care. AZ licenses DO last a loooong time though... like 40 years? Mine expires when I'm 60... you'll have a Level 1 inspection, theyll check your VIN, you're good to go. get a 2 year registration... under $100 for me I recall. get insurance... use your home address for that. it seems like taking more effort, but honestly, its pretty easy and cheap... especially when your car is modified and wont pass an emission test. Out here in Cali, you can turn around, pay more, and ;) you pass... out in AZ no one does that... haha plenty of us "non-give-a-crap-about-law" people in California do it, drive a few hours out there, 2 year registration, pay insurance online, tell Cali cops to go screw themselves. -

my assortment of soobs: '88 dl sedan, 103,000 on it... sold it because i acquired another car :-\ '86 gl sedan, 94,000 on it... sold it to pay off debt '88 dl wagon, 176,000 on it, it was an east coast car... it died in Arizona. '89 xt6, 100,000 on it... runs great, sorting out paperwork on it currently '86 gl coupe, 94,000 on it... im in love. -
Well Lucy called you Andrew, sorry Jon Um... I cant snap pics right now its too dark, plus the thing is diiiirty... but i promise i will either tomorrow or saturday... once i wash it and have some time. But, the whole car's fine for the most part... brand new v-belts and theres NO dents on it, the bumpers are a tad tweaked, but eh what can you ask for $125? Um... yeah pretty quick, she was only 30 mins away, and I bought it immediately, it's like my old red GL... only nicer. i had to have it! anyways, ill post pics when possible... gary
