  1. so THAT'S what that thing is! The insulation on the wiring is bad (it crumpled in my fingers), and the wires look like they've been "folded"... is there a harness of some sort to replace it, or am I going to have to do some splicing
  2. GAH... so i give in and buy a new CTS... put it in. im driving down the street.. then now a code 25! turn car off, back on... no CEL drive 5 minutes, code 25. if i even try to floor it, it doesnt even respond! (in other news, i got the XT6 seats in )
  3. I'll check the intake. And thanks Dave, I didnt clean the IAC that way, I shall try to do that. and yes, daeron i tested the CTS and it checked out fine, after i cleaned it (green corrosion) it DID improve the idle, but it's still not satisfactory... I may just bite the bullet and buy a new CTS, mind as well. it's not an RX but it's SPFI, and yeah, I have a stethoscope, it's definately the TB area causing the tick (no TOD, my oil pump is new and resealed) i'll come back with more results, after I tackle installing the XT6 seats (which im looking for a thread on right now) -gary
  4. You'll get that XT going right eventually. Wish I could say the same for my 6... Good luck!
  5. i was driving my car for the first time this week (yay fixed my turnsignal-stalk CC) and the darned CEL comes on after a mile or so. MAF and CAS codes. i flushed the radiator (talk about procrastination), cleaned the MAF with CRC, and changed the battery terminals... cant do much about the CAS at the moment... anyways start car, sure seems like it has better voltage... no more CEL if i floor it in park, it bogs down to 300rpms... if i try to gun it from a stop, the civic boy laughs at me passing... the idle's STILL screwed... it'll be so nice one minute, next stop, it'll be so low... next stop, it'll be high! and what the heck could be ticking from the TB area?! what else should i check out? i replaced: spark plugs and wires (ngk all the way) fuel filter (fram) pcv valve (OEM) air filter (fram) cleaned MAF and its connections cleaned up CTS and its connections cleaned IAC valve tested MAF and CTS, checks out OK (thanks on the CTS location shoup!) argh, my 300 mile trip is coming up soon... what the heck else can i do? there's no CEL showing up anymore, so no "help" there..:-\
  6. that TOD is so annoying... reseal the oil pump, mickey mouse gasket and shaft seal. hows the oil pressure? check the PCV system too for buildup. i had to replace the PCV hoses and the valve. use some rislone or MMO with 20/50 dino oil and drive it around, maybe rev it up high for a little bit "italian tuneup" i bought my car for $125 with a "blown engine"... this fixed my problem
  7. all engines have HG problems (well, most of them, at some point do) but the 2.2 in the legacy you're looking at wasnt the notorious HG blower, that was the 2.5... they werent made back in '90. go for it! wonderful car. (as long as it isnt completely trashed and not ridiculously expensive, i wouldnt pay more than $1,000) but this isnt Old Gen... eh why am i saying anything, they'll move it anyways
  8. that big black "harness" looking thing? i'll look at it tomorrow morning, i hope you're right
  9. they BS with that timing crap. same here, except im in LA. got a CEL on the car? wait, they instantly eliminate your inspection if it's on.. hmmm o2 sensor? cts? bad injector? i havent dealt with rich running before ...i say look around, pay that old smog shop a little "extra" and have them "pass" it for you yes, it's still doable even with the new machinery... but you didnt hear it from me
  10. i cant find that friggin CTS for the life of me... well, at least i know what that 1-prong is for and that jumpered one is a vacuum solenoids... it's not throwing a CEL, the car's not running weird (beside the CTS) so i shall leave that alone. i thought it could be the CTS or something... it's not i'll quit stressing the bellhousing, and pray i make it to arizona... 400 miles, 75mph 4,000rpm but which gasket is that in the pic with the cruddy sealant job?? hmm thanks for the replies! giving me confidence in my little soob
  11. It seriously looks like cracks... but they dont leak, so maybe you're right. I have a long trip I have to make, I just dont want it.... shattering on me
  12. heres the pics: (in a link because they're huge) http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/IMAGE_00018.jpg up on the bellhousing, where it's blackened somewhat (from me rubbing on it) it has really small cracks. then also in this picture, the gasket right before the spark plug hole (see the crappy yellowish sealant job?) is leaking the oil somewhat... isnt that the valve cover gasket? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/IMAGE_00020.jpg this picture... im trying to make sure, is that one-prong lookin plug my CTS? brownish poo colored plug... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/data/500/IMAGE_000211.jpg and WTF is that plug?
  13. well... i totally cleaned up my engine compartment (looks shiny, sorta) and i noticed two things, one being the bellhousing has cracks on it... and also im trying to figure out what gasket i'm leaking oil from... i'll take pics right now, actually. and before i get the "police" on my case like i did last time, the car's an '86 ea82 3at with 94k.
  14. are you talking the whole exhaust system or just the muffler? if just the muffler, its possible. dont know about the piping though
  15. You want to buy the engine?? its a 2wd and the transmission is an automatic... wont fit in my coupe :-\ and ill try my best to get there this weekend... hoping nothing comes up...
  16. well if there isnt a list already... what is there to swap?
  17. was just wondering... is there a thread with xt6 parts that could be used on an ea82 car... like for example, seats, five lug swap, so on... just curious because im parting out my 6 and i might try to fit stuff to my GL... if it'll fit
  18. '86 EA82 N/A around 15psi at idle, 45-50psi when driving
  19. I'll take off all my other cars and just leave the one I'll be complaining about for the next who-knows amount of years
  20. seller's remorse! those bras look awesome... where do you get those from??
  21. hopefully someone can find you that y-pipe... save you $175... but, for $375, if you get a new cat, all new piping, and a fabbed y-pipe... that's still a decent deal... as my exhaust is shot as well, and local shops want $550
  22. Sorry! It's an '86 GL, SPFI EA82. Nothing seems plugged up or anything, I checked all of the PCV hoses and also replaced the valve... (ouch, ej25, no thanks)
  23. Not one single EA82 in the yard... actually not even one single Subaru for that matter, sorry
  24. I KNOW it's the rear main. I just know it. Like my old GL, it leaks right where the trans and engine meet... But, how can I be sure its the rear main, I am getting good oil pressure... and it doesnt seem to leak THAT much. I dont want to drive it the 1,000 mile trip to Washington to have it blow up on the 5 or anything :-\
  25. Awww come on, dont be embarrassed... I drive mine without any exhaust at all  I'll look for a Y-pipe for you today at our local JY... I'll let you know what I come up with.
