  1. Okay.... I had an engine sound a while back and well now the engine won't turn over. When I bought my '90 wagon(few months ago, 6500mi ago) it ran great and sounded great. Then without any warning a sound started... first a small ticky sound, then the ticky turned into a clackity(sp?), then crunchy/bangin' sound...... I was able to drive the 2 miles back home, seemed to have a surge of lost power every once in a while but it was the noise that scared me. I pulled into the driveway and shut it down..... Then turned it over only to hear the loudest metal banging/ tapping sound ever.... no lights came on, oil pressure was good, clean oil, clean coolent, fresh plugs, newer wires and dist cap/rotor.... No prior warning to this. From people I've talked to at work, those I trust... figured I broke something, like a rod. Is this common? Has about 160K original, never rebuilt. Basicly, I probably need a new or newer engine to toss in there. Any one know of a good place to find one?? I can't really spend much more that $400-500 out of pocket right now. It's a EA82 EFI'ed motor. Help:( I really suck a Subarus so more help the better!!
  2. Rallywagon - Put me down as another person who wants to know the details on this conversion!!
  3. Oh yeah.... there are plenty of trails, I think that there might even be new ones since we had the summer event. The trails would put the true test to any Soobie. Some of them our cars wouldn't be able to get through but most of them are do-able if driven right.
  4. One of the mud pits, summer mud........4.3L, 36's and locked F/R still got stuck BUT I bet a Brat could make it:brow:
  5. Adam - It's being held near Wolf Creek. Here's another pit probably not seen, new one at the summer Haz-Fest........ steep drop in and steep climb out!
  6. I assume you know but... In the John's Peak area you DO need an OHV permit. You have one right? Just trying to keep the Soobies from getting those $250 min tickets:D Last time I went up to John's Peak I just about rolled my Toyota, it would have rolled into my friends Toyota which was on edge to roll too:eek: Never went back as it's mostly an ATV/moto area. soobme - did you see this invite, USMB special Haz-Fest invite
  7. Okay, after running around a bit and getting permission.... I am here to invite those on the USMB to an off-road event put on by my club. Haz-Fest Winter '03 November 15 &16 Entry fee is $20 at the door per person.... this $20 goes to the use of the land/trails, entertainment, food and Honey Bucket useage. There is camping available if needed, so bring your gear. Now, Haz-Fest isn't for the week minded.... this is a total blast, you'll see lots of rigs, Toyota's, Sami's, Ford's, tube creations and who else knows. The trails range from easy to "you'll come out without your rig" style trails. I'll be out there with my Soobie on a couple trails! Here are a few entertainment pieces for you to check out before you decide. Few pictures from 2002 winter event, Haz-Fest '02 Video's from Haz-Fest Summer '03: Video #1, 8.6MB Video #2, 7.7MB Our last Haz-Fest event brought out about 200 people and almost 75-80 rigs throughout the weekend.... this Haz-Fest is SPECIAL INVITE ONLY so this is USMB's special invite. IF you do want to come you will need to contact ME via email at Toyofast@hotmail.com for more info reguarding the event. It is late notice but with the hoops I went through it'd be worth everyone's time/money to come! I'm betting that there will be approx 75-100 people at this event, invities only. We have a raffle during the dinner(if you have something to raffle off bring it). I'll post a couple-few pictures from the past Haz-Fest's....
  8. It's snowing at my parents house... I was called at 6:30am by them just so they could let me know that it was snowing hard and they have about 2.5-3 inches on the ground. They are also at about 4800' in elevation in Central Oregon.
  9. Last pic of the best place to get that image/picture to mount on your wall... the water crossing which is an option. It's actually near the start of the trail but it's also sort of the main intersection to the other trails in the area, good lunch stopping spot mid day exploring the twisted mess of trails. The water level isn't always the same, sometimes very low(end of summer) or rather high(late winter/early spring)... this was mid/late spring about the end April...snorkel went on the next day and what's even funnier is that I had the snorkel in the bed of the truck, just not on yet as this trip was a last minute idea and took away from the install. BTW: Toyota, 3" lift, on 35's...top of hood was at about 40" or so high from ground.
  10. Pic #4... just a ways past that mound stuck image if you watch the road/trail closely you'll see an older route off to one side and that's where you'll find the rock gardens:D Probably not Subaru friendly if not ready to crawl.
  11. Pic #3... avoid the mounds! "The Sled" didn't make it and I have a hard time seeing a Soobie making it either:(
  12. Pic #2 is just past the first pic and after a small creek crossing(3-8" deep)... an open field with a mini rock garden leading the way up a dead end trail. Only a silly TJ would fall for it:D
  13. I'm a bit late on seeing this but would you guys like the info on getting to another fun area? I'll try to get you to say yes by attaching a few pics... not the best but show the areas where we would play the most when on the trail. It's the type of trail that would be a blast in a Subaru, stock or modded. Only hint I'll give you about this area is that there are actually labeled "4wd" roads in this area and this trail is one of them. Pic #1 is near the start, just after going past the "gate keeper"...the gate keeper is basicly a gravel pit and going past a tippy/washed out section, always caused my wife to grin.
  14. Oh boy... it really would be cool if perhaps we, as a board of Subaru folks could find a US distributor of these wheels if there isn't one. I don't think there is as I'm sure we would have heard about it by now. Please... oh please have a discounted price and/or USA distributor!!
  15. Yep! I am intrested....... I wonder how excited the wife will be when the bank account is missing a few hundred dollars?
  16. How do you think a group buy(10 or more of us) from the USA would effect their pricing? 'Cause I like these... I'd need 'em in black... but I also like the white
  17. Plugs still good? Are your plug wires arching?
  18. I feel really bad for you guys that live in states that have inspections.... Oregon doesn't have anything. We can drive without windshields, just gotta have wipers though:D Even this thing is street legal, no front fenders, not much left of rear panels, tires stick way out and it's beat to hell.... great wheeler though, 4.3, TH350, 4.10's, locked F/R, 36"sx's and more. Ahh Oregon the land of beater cars that are totaly legal to drive on public roads.... just have insurance and you're golden!
  19. Okay... I see your point and feel your pain about the dealership asking/getting more money for new factory parts. I work at Toyota, in the parts dept, and see prices on some items(nuts, bolts and gaskets) that make me want to crap... One thing I can suggest is that you keep your VIN number handy... for your car and off the car that you swapped the engine from.... All(I hope all) dealerships use computers and most to ALL VIN numbers have been entered into these systems. Having the VIN number from the car that you got the motor from could help them find the part faster, easier and more of a chance to be the correct one the first time you ask. Also another way to get better deals from the dealership is to try to open a account, preferably a wholesale type account if you can. At my work I setup an account for my club and other people to use if they want wholesale deals on stuff... have sold loaded elockers, clutches and other stuff... even sent stuff back east which costed the guy less then if he were to go buy it from his local dealer at regular costs. If anyone ever needs to get Toyota parts be sure to contact my work, Gresham Toyota call 503.665.2927 talk to Pete, he's our wholesale guy and is top notch and tell him your calling for Backwoods4wd... instant discount. But best bet is to talk with the Parts Manager to try to setup an account at your local dealership.... let them know that not only will they increase local sales but perhaps people from other areas of the US will be calling to buy from them if they can make it worth your while...
  20. Wow.... I should start making more of my intake plates and try to sell them! I started with the drilled out stock air box method but it didn't seem to do too much...... I then made my own adapter to mount a cheap cone style filter right to the end of the MAF sensor, like how the stock air box mounts up. I can swap it back to the stock air box if needed as I made it a direct bolt on. Here's how mine looks: With this setup I feel a much more smooth power band, before it seemed to have a slight lag around 2800-3500rpm... now it's nice and smooth from idle to 5K. It also gives that vaccum cleaner/ricer car sound above 3500rpms. I just need to upgrade to a K&N filter rather than this cheap thing.
  21. Few more spots to see deepmuds tracks... http://www.alaskaoffroad.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=3e6587902426ffff;act=ST;f=3;t=25 http://www.alaskaoffroad.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=3e6587902426ffff;act=ST;f=3;t=30 http://www.alaskaoffroad.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=3e6587902426ffff;act=ST;f=3;t=17 AND somewhere is a video clip of him testing them out... pretty cool.
