'86 GL Manual Shift Problem, Questions
talking about shops and costs i've been needing to do a clutch change on my 89 wagon, its a guy that only deals with subarus at his shop and has been doing it for 25+ years, is $500 too much? this is only labor, the clutch kit is $120 for a 4WD clutch with bearings and flywheel and stuff, but im just curious on the labor part. is doing the clutch difficult on an EA82? i have tools but it would only be me bymyself and im pretty sure the transmission ain't light. is $500 too much to pay someone that specializes in subarus when someone on the other part of my city can do it for $250? is there any risks of screwing up? do you have to actually know what your doing? thanks.

you're right, did not see the shape of the back end of the hatch, was just looking at year models and not the pictures.

'86 GL Manual Shift Problem, Questions
i made a thread about the shifter linkages not too long ago.... but she said earlier that it doesn't feel sloppy, i think its something inside her transmission. heres the thread i made about the bushings-http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/153268-shifter-bushings-cant-remove-them/ also my second gear has been gear grinding ever since i got the car, and third is slowly but surely catching up, does not matter how softly i put it in gear or double clutching it, it loves to grind so i have to slam it into gear just to have access to 2nd and 3rd gear. you're not the only one with transmission issues Subarule. also Subarule doesn't do her own work. best of luck Subarule! hope you fix your issue with the transmission.

EA 82, i think EA 81's were before mid 1984 and older. Were you quoting GeneralDisorder?

Bent Rim. Suggestions?
got a bent rim just like what you have, you must have hit that hard. I hit a ridiculous pothole on I10, been fine for the 1 1/2years after i hit the pothole and driving with the bent corner, (does not mean your's is safe also), i did rebalance the wheel though, not sure if it was my imagination or it was actually vibrating alittle on the highway. free unlimited balancing on my tires so thats why i did it. be glad your tire did not pop! could have flipped over and bye bye to your wagon.

Headlight Bucket Replacement Loyale
i mean, the only thing i could think of would be the old style on the DL's, the quad headlights, all you need is the bracket and the parking lights (and wireing to do). instead of having the big beam headlights rusting and shattering and holding water inside like if it was an aquarium. the sealed beams are 4 individual lights and if you shatter one you replace the thing as a whole and its brand new again. now the disadvantage of it is that one- im also still looking for the conversion so i guess their pretty hard to find. two- their dimmer than the ones you have right now, just the way the old headlights were built. but they look cool but im sure theres some conversion thats possible with a little modification from someone on here. best of luck!

Yakima Roof Cargo Basket
i don't like my bike being on the roof, i still need to get a trailer hitch that a 1985 GL has at the junkyard so i can buy one of those trailer hitch bike racks. would really suck if i hit a roof with one of my bikes in a drive thru or something, im pretty good at forgetting those kinds of things. the only thing i dislike is i can't open my hatch unless i remove if, but it woun't be on all the time anyways.

92 Loyale No spark to start when hot.
mine were so corroded and rusted that when i tried removing that circle module electronic piece with the 2 pins (whatever you want to call it) the pins ripped out of the module and i broke it since i had to jam a flathead inbetween just to remove it. so take the whole thing, not just the circle electronic, the risks are pretty high compared to just cutting the wires and splicing them back together or soldering them back on your vehicle. but my bet is that tiny sensor with 4 wires comming out of the distributor that reads the slits on the spinning metal disk.

Lifting the Loyale next week
you should, it makes me sad and you have no idea how weird it is looking at your car, its exactly like mine, minus the wheels and dark headlight covers, (i have the clear). also forgot to thank you for that accessory lol, thanks again for the idea! the paint color you have is quite uncommon. do you know your paint color? mine fell off of my strut tower, is it 943? just want to make sure about that.

92 Loyale No spark to start when hot.
or it could be the modulator square thing that goes with the coil, replaced that with a junkyard one but that didn't fix the issue, the distributor did. it is located on the same bracket as the coil is attached to. dont strip the 2 phillips screws

distributor, inside the distributor, and no im not talking about the rotor, take the rotor off and under it theres a plate covering the distributor, take the plate off and theres a metal disk that spins with a sensor detecting all the little holes this metal disk has, thats the sensor thats failing on you. ever wondered why theres 4 wires comming out of the distributor? no not the spark plug wires, just regular plain wires, this sensor is like an inch by a 1/4inch, little rectangle held on by 2 phillips, put an ice pack around the distributor and it will last longer before it kills itself. i had the same issue where it would "warm up" and it would slowly kill itself after being on for 15min or so, wait 20-30min for something to "cool" and would start right up, but if it just killed itself, no matter how much i cranked on it, it would never start up no matter what unless i waited a while. You either have to replace that tiny sensor from one at the junkyard or buy a whole distributor for $200 at O'reillys. i fried my distributor because i washed the engine. did you wash your engine or did it rain recently? theres a seal that seals between the distributor and distributor cap that probably rotted away after 20+ years of age. i silliconed mine shut since you can buy everything distributor related except that stupid seal.

Dumb Question? Loyale vs. GL (Wagons)?
i think theres 2 or 3 other countries that also used the GL/DL Loyale blah blah, but for the most part yes. How about that Isuzu Geminette-II? would love to have the Geminette-II name on the side of my GL, talk about a unique rare trim piece in the U.S.

Spare tire mounting ideas
you're right about being like a tank, the thickness of the metal isn't like the ones built today, especially the hatch, the doors are questionable though, i wouldn't want to be hit on the side but i feel quite safe on the front and back. they assessed mine at $1,675 but progressive does this BS stuff where you take care of 20% and the insurance covers 80% so i got $1,200, still good money for nothing, bought another wagon for parts for $200 and that took care of the bumper issue and other things that were wrong on it, and the other 1,000 i kept for myself. ofcourse at the cost of a clean title but i have no plans on seling this vehicle or ever, im literally going to drive this vehicle into the dirt, if it ever gets there since i keep fixing every issue that pops up literally the next day.

Spare tire mounting ideas
i was in a car accident with my 1989 GL Wagon and the only damage done was my rear bumper plastic cover, metal underneath was perfectly fine but guess what happened, it was totaled! i bet if a walmart shopping cart hit your vehicle and dinged it, you report it to the insurance company, they will still totale it.

0w20 synthetic oil in 2007 impreza
Subasaurus replied to bdecriscio's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXconspiracies.... their catching up to us!! they want you to return to buy another disposable plastic vehicle. also i use 10w-30, what the hell is 0w suppose to protect.

Spare tire mounting ideas
agree, but theres so many minor accidents that happen for every major one, so the chances of the tire killing you are slim, so i would mount the tire in the back like a Rav4 if i was doing this.

A/C Compressor
Subasaurus replied to ukroy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXdepends on alot of things, i remember my 1993 impreza took 4ounces but you also gotta see if the compressor also already has some. you don't want to put double of what it needs and yes, time to replace the compressor, mine was seized when i bought it, tried so hard to move it, i got it to spin freely again but when i forced the living hell out of it, i heard a snap inside and when i would tilt it, i could hear a screw or chunk of metal in there rolling around (never took it apart) since i was already in a bad mood because i had to spend a bunch of money for a new one.

ID this badge
chrome modern logo is from vehicles between late1987-1993ish, when subaru had no idea what logo to go next (or what they were doing) theres actually a rare one where visible on new old stock packages in 1988ish of OEM parts where the old logo connecting the stars was used but without the lines connecting them, so it looked like a complete jumbled mess, no wonder they changed it to that (your picture) anyways, the only vehicle ive seen with my own eyes is a 1989 GL, 1990 Loyale, 1993 Loyale, this is because i live in south Texas where Subaru's overall aren't common. so i don't know what other vehicles it could belong to. extra facts=Impreza's 1993-1996ish had a black background with that modern logo, 1997 and up had blue background as we know today and also revised the logo by "stretching the stars sideways."
