  1. Thanks, guys! Me Suby is not doing very well, looks like toasted head gaskets.
  2. Yes! It was great meeting you too, Jeremy! I found a bad spot in the wiring harness for the ECU, so I pulled that out and replaced that part of the wiring. I'm going to put it back in tomarrow night and see if my spark comes back. I am very thankfull Suby died near a town instead of in the middle of the deasert.
  3. Ah ha! That's where this post is. Ok. Milage when we left home: 215858 Mileage when Suby died in Beatty, NV: 218659 Suby drove about 2800 miles, she got towed about 640 miles. Total: roughly 3440 miles. That's some miles for a little Subaru that sees maybe 200 miles in a week! Carnage was a dead roo and a rattled apart muffler.
  4. I put a new fuel pump in and no difference. Bummmer. I did find a bad spot on the wiring harness; looks like it got rather toasty. So, I'm going to replace it with some new wiring and relocate the ground point for the ECU harness. I really don't like the fact that the wiring runs right over the t-stat housing. I think I am also going to add a few more ground points in the engine compartment.
  5. Yeah, I'm gonna get that cleaned too. I'm going to clean the engine compartment and see if that makes any difference. Currently, I have no spark. Gonna hafto pull out the oscilliscope and start tracking the spark signal and find out where it's getting lost. Fuel pressure is dropping, so I ordered a new fuel pump. I also am going to pull the access cover off the fuel tank and see if there might be somthing blocking the inlet. Fun fun fun!
  6. Thanks! The rest of you guys have some great pics too! My, that AA wagon did get some major air! That is wild!
  7. Great pics! I like your snorkel setup. Looks good and sounds awesome too! Wow, my roo really spewed out the smoke didn't it? I think I went through 2 qts of oil that day. Oh well, it was a blast!
  8. Here's mine: http://usmb.net/gallery/SubyNuts-Pics?page=1 I've got a few pics of the broke strut on the AA wagon.
  9. I've got some pics too, but I don't have a place to put them. Brian, could you setup the an album in the USMB.net gallery, so I could put my pics in there?
  10. We got on the road at about 1PM Suday afternoon. We overnighted on the side of the road about 20 miles north of Susanville,CA at about 1 in the morning, got up at 6 and back on the road again. No problem holding 70+ on the I-5. BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ!!! Jibs: No, I think Suby just got jealous cause I was drooling over a few late 70's F250s on the way back. Yes, it was fun hanging out with you guys! Will hafto do that again! I got her running again tonight, but I can't use more than 1/2 throttle otherwise she goes full lean and stalls. Kinda wondering if it's fuel or TPS.....or both? Going to get some parts and build myself a fuel pressure guage and see if the aftermarket pump is sufficient enough pressure. Otherwise, it looks like it'll be a wapping 260 for a new fuel pump. Ouch.... If that isn't it, then I will hafto say I had vapor lock. Oh yes, my muffler completely blew out too. It was on it's way out at the show, but it's got a hole the size of a softball now. And it wasn't from a log or a rock, it worked it's way apart during the drive down.
  11. Suby made it all the way to Beatty, NV when she gave up and died: She started going extreemly lean and started stumbling just outside of Tonopah, NV. I let her cool off, and limped her to Tonopah and had a local mecanic test the fuel pressure: 20 psi. Hummmmmm not good. SO, I tried putting an aftermarket fuel injection pump in-line and that got me to just outside of Beatty where she just wouldn't run past 1/8th throttle. Let her cool off again and limped her to a hotel/casino and parked her there. Callled home, and Dad came up there, put her on a trailer and hauled her home. What's strange is the bouncing idle I was getting at the show disappeared at higher elevations. I think they are related. Suby just doen't like the heat, I guess. Figures, the one part I didn't have with is the part that died. Bummer. Anyways, had a blast at the show. Met alot of people and want to do it again next year!
  12. We're off to WCSS7 from Arizona! Should be leaving in about 30 minutes or so. Heat's the big concern: 114 in Phoenix and 112 in Las Vegas today, eeeeeeeeee. Suby will make it, with A/C....let's hope so!
  13. EGR could give you pinging if it's not opening. The idle switch is intristing. Does it idle about where it should be? someware around 800 or so.
  14. Justa fried fuse. Whew! I lost the fuse between the Alt and Batt. Wouldn'tev thought that a non charging situation would cause my fuel injection to go haywire. Oh twell. At least she's happy again. Yes, we deffinately will bring lotso coolant! Sure we'll join ya! Where will we meet you?
  15. I'll B there: 1 roo, 2 people.
  16. Will be taking off tues morning. I will be zipping through reno, up 395 and stopping in Lakeview,OR late wed night. Although, with Suby being stubborn, I wonder if it would be wise to join up with your caravan. In fact, she died on me today. Started as a wandering idle, then no charge, then stumbling and dead battery. DRAT, now what??!? Almost am wondering if Suby doesn't want to goto WCSS. SUBY WHAT'S WHRONG WITH YOU!?!?!?!? ok, done venting.
  17. Hummm gonna hafto check that out. Unfortunatly, I'm not goning to be able to put it in before WCSS. So, I'll hafto see how she does. That nevada desert is a killer on cooling systems. Thanks!
  18. Weight reduction! Makes is "feel" like there's more power there.
  19. How much thicker is the two row vs the single row? I don't have very much clearence between my water pump and electric fan, at most a half an inch.
  20. One Q: Is the opening of the valve itself larger in diameter? Reason being is I put a 180 in mine, but the opening of the valve of the T-stat is smaller than the 190 Suby t-stat. I took a long drive in the AZ heat and she runs at about 200 till I start climbing hills. Then she's back up to 235. She'll cool down to 190 as I decend down the grade. With the 190, she'd normally run at 210 and climb to about 240 while cimbing a grade at 65-70. While taking forever to cool back down to 210. So, it appears as tho I just don't have enough coolant flow.
  21. I put a 180 in mine cause she was hanging around 230 too much. Flushed the cooling system and put a 180 in there. Now she runs at about 190 which is 20 deg cooler than she ran with the 190 in there. The fans never kicked on while I was in the city parade today. Only problem is she never kickes off high idle. She now idles around 1200RPM. I wonder if the coolant temp sensor is shot......... I put the 180 in there so that when I need the A/C on the way to WCSS, she's not going to overheat while buzzin through Nevada and Oregon.
  22. Yeah, that grade before Pendelton is a biggie. I was bouncing between 3rd and 4th all the way up it. I could accelorate in 3rd, but couldn't hold it in 4th. Really coulda used a gear splitter that day. US-95 north outa Fruitland is pretty, but it's grade climbing all the way. Boy, do I miss that state! Have fun!
  23. Accually, HTI, you're pretty much on track. loyalewithcheese: Does your car have MPFI or SPFI? If it's MPFI there will be a pair of green and a pair of black. If it's SPFI then they're White and green. Both should be disconnected during driving. Like HTI said, the green ones are used to set the timing and check the system compnents by the dealer. The other ones are used to read the stored codes when the CEL comes on in the event of an error. As far as timing, from what I've played around with the timing on my roo, I think you can pretty much set the timing to where you want your max power to be. If you go too far advanced, you run the risk of pinging and possible burnt intake valves. Personally, running at 29" won't hurt it, if your not experiencing pinging. I find it intresting that you have a flat spot around 2500 with the timing set at 20" whereas it wasn't there when it was set at 29". Hummmm gonna hafta try that on my roo. I'm currently running about 16" which moved my peek power further up the RPMs; not sure where, but it's too far for the cams I got in there.
