O2 disconnected and CEL not on??????
grossgary: Are you sure what's left of that cat isn't going to freak out the A/F ratio? starkiller: If it was me, I'd disconnect it at the conector at the top of the engine.

overheating. . . alot
Rusty, eh? I would get one of those Prestone Flush Kits and power flush that bad boy without the t-stat in there. That should help a bit.

O2 disconnected and CEL not on??????
Well, I went to a couple of mechanics to see if there was a way to replace my seized o2 sensor and got the imfamous gonna hafta replace the cat line. So, I checked out the cat an it appears it's mainly gutted. I can run a rod all the way through the cat without hitting anything. So, I was thinking can I just drill a hole in the cat an mount a new sensor elseware? Or will that cause the ecu to run more rich since there is some catalyst in the cat?

Rough Ride: Do I need springs?
I am speaking from what I've read on the board, I've never rode in an RX. So, here goes: Are those struts adjustable? They might be set all the way up. Is it air suspention? I know the RX has stiffer springs, but I didn't think they're THAT much stiffer.

stall after hard stop
It was there before the conversion, but only when I was on a steep decent. She would start stumbling for quite a while before eventually dying. Would start after I leveled her out. Ok, I was just above the reline of the guage when I put about 5 gallons in, now she's just below the half mark and no more problem except she feels like somthing is holding her back. Don't know if it's just the 80+ deg weather that's doing it or what. My O2 sensor is not working too so, I don't know what the engine is doing: IE running rich or lean.

stall after hard stop
No, because even after I get off the brakes, it takes a few secconds of fluttering the throttle before she wakes up enough to move again. She accually doesn't stall. Its more like when you step on the gas, she revs initally then wants to die like a carb does when the float bowls are almost empty.

Purge/EGR control valve Q's
Currently, I have a good used one in there. So, the idea is on the back burrner right now. Gots other Subarus that want my undivided attention.

stall after hard stop
Man, what a differnace a 20 deg drop on the weather can do for your performance. Just came back from a test drive and WOW. She definately likes 75 degrees with a tad humidity a whole lot better than 97 degrees with less than 12% humidity. :-\ Anyways, back to my question.....How come when I come to a fast stop she wants to stall? She only comes back after I can jerk her forward. Then she's fine. What gives? I am running on about 1/8 of a tank of fuel and last time before I filled up she would hesitate after a fast left turn. Gots any ideas? This is very wierd. I swapped to Fuel injection for better reliability and mileage and yet I'm having more troubles than I did with the carby. This does NOT compute. Guess Suby wanted to stay carby. Forget it, Suby!

O2 disconnected and CEL not on??????
I don't know if the o2 sensor would cause pinging, that sounds more like timing and/or bad gas.

Buying an engine from CCR
They are excelent. Very good quality. Had them custom build a EA82 for me. I would deffianately purchase another one from them.

How to troubleshoot A/C probs?
I'm not sure whitch A/C unit you have but if it's the Hitachi, there are three wires that goto the the unit. There's one blue wire that goes to the compressor clutch and the other two goto the pickup coil. You want the single blue wire. Give it switched +12V. But, like NorthWet said, make sure it has adequite refrigrant and that it's accually cooling the air. You don't want to fry somthing, ya know?

O2 disconnected and CEL not on??????
Well, I swapped the coolant temp sensor with the other one I had and she's idling better. Still rough, but has improved. VAC around 12-13 in/Hg instead of fluttering around 10. Another thing I should mention is that my Air/Fuel guage is reading an open (full rich) when connected to the sensor. Too bad the o2 sensor is wedged in the cat, I REALLY want to know where that engine is running A/F ratio wise. Guess it's time to mount a new one elseware.:-\ Excelent writeup, grossgary, very good. However, my coolant sensor has a pigtail on it. Also did a oil change and now my valve tick is back. I can't win.:banghead:

O2 disconnected and CEL not on??????
After my coversion, Suby's been running a rough and I have very little lowend torque. She's now better after I got the CEL turned off (Purge, EGR and NSS), but she's running rough, I feel small surges throughout the RPM range, and she's running about 20 deg hotter than she did with the Weber. Sounds to me like a running lean condition. I disconnected the O2 sensor just to see if it might be bad, and CEL did not turn on! She was fully warmed up so, I would think she would be in closed loop mode. This don't make sence to me. Other possibility is the coolant temp sensor is shot, I do have another one laying around that I'll try. It's state is unknown, I'll hafta see what happends. Any thoughts? Well, off to replaceing a t-stat in another Suby...............................................

as Turby Turbo matured, he found that he had oil where there was no oil before
Looks like the oil seals are shot. I right clicked view image and had no problem viewing them. Very odd.

Broke rear upper strut mount
Ok, I'll check it out. Thanks!

Broke rear upper strut mount
Ok, this is getting rediculous. While I'm doing my sister's brakes, I notice the right rear strut would sqeak every time I touched it. Found out that the bushings are toast. I finally found the clunk when you go over bumps. Now, either the parts stores dont know what I'm talking about or they just don't have such a thing: It's hanging like this: If I push up on it, it looks like this: Anything that's rubber is considered shot in AZ, so the junkyards are out. Any sugestions?

Why TOD won't go away??!? Fixed
Yes, I was a little too impatient for the Sefoam to do it's job. Didn't think it was THAT bad, guess I was wrong. Anyways, it's still apart, but not because of engine trouble, but because she asked me to check her brakes: Shot. So, now I'm doing brakes. Will this project EVER end????? Here's a quick shot of the sender unit: I ran a hose from the oil pump to here cause the sender unit is too long to fit between the pump and the radiator. Here's the point at the oil pump: At least she has a working oil pressure guage now.

How to troubleshoot A/C probs?
Same here. Mine will run for a time then kick out till I switch to somthing differant then go back. What gives?

Thermo switch replacement....
That looks alot like the one at autozone by hayden. I've got one on my Suby. I had one go bad on me, so I added a relay to handle the current from the fan.

Thermo switch replacement....
You can accually get them? Or is that the junk yard? I can't at all. My sister's died too and autozone, napa, pep boys, and checker can't get them. Where did you find them?

It's done. It's over.
Rest in peace little roo.

Why TOD won't go away??!? Fixed
Process completed. I put the old sender unit back in and it's no longer leaking. I used the idiot light port and ran some tubing over to the passenger side where I mounted the sender unit. It seems that it's working. She's running about 25 psi at 600rpm and about 75 at high idle. TOD has gone and it's quiet again. So, all that's needed is to put the air cleaner assembly back on and my sister will be back on the road again. I'll post some pics tomarow.

Brat strut failure, pics/questions
Mine did that while I was flying down a rough dirt road. I think it was cause I jumped it at about 70 the day before.

Why TOD won't go away??!? Fixed
Well, I picked up an aftermarket electric oil pressure guage. Put it in there and the thing leaks. Found out that the pump's threads were shot and somebody put a heli-coil in there. Well, the heli-coil broke and is leaking. So, now I'm looking at maybe useing the port for the idiot light and adding a little extention on there and re-locateing the sender unit someware else. Oh, this is so much fun!
