Baja ...
I would think you could bolt in a STI 2.5 turbo motor... hehe, that would be soo much fun I might even last 5mins in it... It only makes sense to run a Baja in the Baja.. Weird...

Anyone seen the new SubieSport?
Amazing how a Mag can do this yet stay in business... I think you all need to write letters to them at the same time so they may get the picture...

RWD Only Soob
... It's amazing! There are accually people out there that think sensibly! This forum is amazing... You should check out the australian forums (even the subaru one) its just... annoying. Although I must admit. 500HP in FWD would not be fun.. But thats what AWD is for. I'm not a "go fast (in a straight line)" kinda guy. I like acceleration and cornering. Maybe thats why I don't like the muscle car style of vehical. Gotta wonder, if I like cornering, why am I driving a lifted subie with M/T tires?? lol... oh that's right, offroad... I agree to testing it out and see how you like it fhb, tell us the resualts.

RWD Only Soob
Oh, sorry fbh. I thought I saw somewhere you were from the US, must of been looking at someone elses thingamobob. Gotta love all the technical talk. No, MOST race cars are RWD. Have you seen a RWD car rally??? ITS BLOODY HILARIOUS! Theres a reason why subarus are 4WD, becuase thats what there ment to do. But if RWD is your thing, and you don't have a lot of money (and if your from Australia or New Zealand: you hate Commenwhores and Falcons) go for it. I just think 1/4 miles and burnouts are for nissans. Leave the cornering upto subies.

(Crazy Idea thread) What'll happen if...
^^^ If my dad's car has 95hp, mine must be 108hp... Hmm, I don't think so, maybe when it was new. My dad's 85 wagon would have around 85hp (its burning a little oil) and my dual carb would have somewhere near 100hp, maybe. It feels gutless becuase I run 27" tires on it. But it was a lot of fun with the stock wheels. Those turbo's were pretty **i*, huh? I can see why people want to get 180hp out of them. That makes sense too. Although many cars do not have this and it sounds like something that is not necessary. If it is getting vapor-lock after the mod I would suggest using some acetone. It helps to vaporise the fuel.

Oh NOO!! not fuel injection! your on your own mate I have no clue with those cars...

RWD Only Soob
I run 27's with no power steering. I have never had the car pulling more then comfortable while on road. I have driven some RWD cars, WITH power steering, that are worse then my subie. But if you like RWD and over steer, and hate under steer, I can see why you would like it. I guess you americans are used to RWD anyway. dual carbs and RWD... BURNOUTS!!!

where's my oil going?
Head and rocker cover gaskets... if it over heated it might of changed the shape of the alloy for a moment and allowed the gasket to break or push out a bit. Degrease your engine and the look for 'new' oil leaking out.

(Crazy Idea thread) What'll happen if...
I think they run coolent thru the manifold and around the carbs to cool the manifold so it doesn't heat the air going into the engine. If you have very short manifolds you won't need this I wouldn't think.

RWD Only Soob
I disagree 100% on this. I have driven many cars and with the older jap cars it is definitely wrong. FWD is better for handling in these old jap cars. My brothers 88 Mazda 626 turbo handles and accerlerates much, much better then his friends 8? Skyline, and the Skyline has more power (ft-lb and hp)... This is what I have heard. RWD Brat drives almost the same as a it did in FWD, but RWD is worse on dirt roads. The whole RWD, front handbrake thing sounds like alot of fun. And don't worry about breaking anything, I've heard they keep together quite well. All that, RWD stuff, said - the best handling car I have driven is a mid engine RWD fiat x1/9. Such a pleasure to drive.

If a stock EA81 has 78 max housepower, my dual carb EA81 would have about 85 to 93Hp I would reckon. I think EA82's are 83hp or something like this. And seems my EA81dc has just as good flow characteristics as a EA82 I would think somewhere around 92hp. But i am only guessing. As for the tool: I've never seen one and have no idea what they do... sorry. _______________ Dual carbed EA81 http://www.offroadingsubaru.com

some new paint? maybe??
Ok, how about this?

DEEP water crossing (video)
And it had no problems with water on the plugs or disty? Every time my subie touches water it starts to miss for a bit. But it is a EA81 with the disty at the front. Pretty good for a subie.

Went down to the beach, and up to the Mountains
You don't have to worry about folowers, its the followers you have to worry about. Whats with your pipe sticking down so far? "EJ22 + Swampers + Low range > EA-82 + Street tires + Pushbutton" You think so huh? hrmmm, strange that...

ea82 and ea81 drive shafts - are they the same
Seems I said rear and front I thought it may be obvius what I was on about, but anyhow. Ok, so there wider. But I guess the gearboxes (4MT DR - 5MT DR) are the same 'wideness'? My bro wants to put a 5spd into his wagon, and I also might be getting a heap of spare parts off a 88 wagon. And seems I have a Brat, and my bro has a 83 wagon I was just figuring out what would be useful.

t3h RX wagon will live again!! for realz yo!
u r teh realz leet man! lol, sorry, just had to. Good to see a old car getting a new life. Those heart transplants are real nice, would like on myself. Hope to hear you don't have any problems with the install. Good luck man.

No Spark....
Make sure all the wires going onto the coil are well attached and attached on the other ends to what ever they goto. If thats fine, try a different coil? Do you get dash lights? If not then a wire off the battery might be off only leaving the starter attached. Just my 3 cents ________________ another brat driver, http://www.offroadingsubarus.com

some new paint? maybe??
Might be helpful to have this photo to compare too mate. I am thinking about this for my bro's 83 DL wagon.. Ask this question to yourself: Do I like the black better? I don't think it looks bad, I don't really see much difference, its all good to me. What about a gunmetal shade of gray?

(Crazy Idea thread) What'll happen if...
As said before we are not talking about a normal dual carb setup like I have. We are talking about two carbs, one of each head. If you had read all the replies it might of helped, but I forgive you. Theres so much to read on this forum it just gets nuts. back on topic. well, not quite. http://www.sub4.co.nz/images/125hpengine2.jpg if you look at that (the Sub4 dual port heads) running twin manifolds and two throttle bodies (its a EFI engine.) you may get an idea what has been done. I still think smaller, shorter manifolds would be better. I don't see a point in going to dual carbs unless you are just after high RPM. My car is just as slow as a normal EA81 down low. It only gets into its own when I get to 3500RPM really. It might have 5 more hp then a stock one below that RPM. So that said, I think we're only after high RPM power here. (which I must say, is awfully fun when I get to 6500RPM and it keeps going easy. And the sound:slobber:....)

ea82 and ea81 drive shafts - are they the same
Which model EA82 drive shafts will fit into a Brat, if any? I am guessing the rear drive shafts are different to the fronts, am I right?

(Crazy Idea thread) What'll happen if...
quick A: Longer will strech more and are more likely to break. But not too much more likely. You may need to have it pulled tighter or it may slip. HOOD SCOOOOOOOPSS!!! I wanted on for my ute, but never got around to making my custom airbox or addin a turbo.

(Crazy Idea thread) What'll happen if...
Most likely from all the sensors in the airbox making the idle lower. Or you have a really stuffed air filter. It should idle around 750 to 850 I would think. My dual carb EA81 idles at 1300 :-\ at 14 degrees before TDC.

(Crazy Idea thread) What'll happen if...
yeah, thats what most people do. Theres prolly a good reason for it (I think you just found it.) Really the only reason you would do this is because it would be super cool and almost a one of a kind. Maybe some time in the future I might do something like this just for kicks.

(Crazy Idea thread) What'll happen if...
Ahh.. forgot about the power steering, I don't have that one my Brat.. New belts arn't normally a problem. And seems you don't have a disty there it would be a good place to put it. (seems EA82's have the disty on the left head, not in the middle of the block.)

(Crazy Idea thread) What'll happen if...
just thought this: if your fabbing up a mount for the carbies why not fab up a new mount for your alt. Just put it in the middle like the EJ's are...
